  1. Exactly! Purebreds get bad and unfair press from the general public. As someone who owns and is passionate about purebred dogs, I like to dispel those myths, rather then see people supporting BYBers, pet stores and puppy farms because of some misguided notions DD or crossbreeds in general are always healthier or always the better option. There's a reason why most working dogs are purebred, and it's the same reason why I always buy purebreds from reputable breeders. I'm betting that reason is not because you're just a snob who wants to boast that you got your dog from a top breeder ...
  2. there's a difference between saying, "dont you think my dog is cute." and "my dog is cuter than yours because i bought him from a top breeder and you bought a dirty mix breed from the newspaper." I don't think I've read that in this thread. Am I a purebred dog snob? You betcha, I am. I have purebred dogs because I like a particular type of dog. I like wheaten and kerry blue terriers. Do I think they're the best dogs on the planet? You betcha, I do. Am I going to say so? You betcha, I am. I didn't buy them but their breeders are indeed tops. Will I say so at every opportunity? You betcha, I will. Why should you condemn me for having purebreds and not a mixed breed? Yes, it works both ways and you're doing it right now.
  3. I hope things are okay. My Grumpy has a big lump on his lower back left leg; it's just a fatty lipoma so it's not always bad news.
  4. Hope things go well at the hospital. Please keep us up-to-date.
  5. i didnt bag breeders, i pointed out the arrogance in the original post. we're meant to be teaching tolerance and acceptance within the human race to our children but how are we meant to do that when we can't even do it with our dogs? it's intimidating to come onto a forum and be confronted by people boasting about their dogs because they came from the top breeder in the country, it's like going to a dinner party and having someone boast about their child going to the most expensive private school and going on about how much better it is than the one you could afford to send your child to. anyway, i didnt come here to argue, i came to talk about dogs, in all shapes and sizes. I think you'll find that dog people will boast about their dogs whether they're purebreds or not. Do you not boast about yours?
  6. I wonder if the terrier judge SC Way is Candy Way from Bantry Bay wheatens ...
  7. Where can these be got locally? (I think Grumpy would simply try to get his off, though)
  8. When out with Grumpy, people often ask what breed he is or say what a beautiful coat he has. Mini, not so much because people think she's a schnauzer. Thinking of a coat for winter that says, 'I'm not a schnauzer!'
  9. The only way IBD can be definitively diagnosed is via a biopsy of the stomach. If the blood tests showed nothing, did they also do a urine test? What are you feeding him?
  10. And note where your preferences go because a vote for minor parties may as well be a vote for Labor.
  11. The new Petstock near DFO currently has some large bags of Holistic Select (formerly Eagle Pack) for 50% off, one per customer.
  12. Foster carers, sure, but what about the rescues themselves who take the dogs? Do they have to register as a domestic animal business? Seems a trifle daft to me.
  13. I don't have enough hands for clicker training. Need a third one. Besides, Mini took no notice of the clicker.
  14. You could also post something in the rescue forum, in case the kelpie rescue folks have a dog with prospects.
  15. Interesting idea, although PETA have no interest in animals other than to ensure that humans don't have anything to do with them. They seem to have a dislike of dogs, in particular. A dead dog is a good dog seems to be the message.
  16. Because the ANKC says so. Yes it restricts an ANKC breeder for selling a dog they want to place on limited to an overseas home if they want to provide transferable limited papers. But the law will not see it as restraint of trade, you can still sell your puppy, you just won't do it with ANKC limited transferable papers. Your choice is yours to belong to the club and follow their rules or not. BTW almost all countires now have limited rego, so this could be done if the clubs wanted to do it. I think dogs back and forth from AKC to CKC on limited. Not sure about the UK. And there are several other registeres outside kennel club that have international recognition of other clubs limited rego for transfers. Why not, let people join the club and do activies, the dog is purebred, it is just not for breeding or show ring. So, they can do something when they feel like it. I'm surprised at this, though, because the CCs would get money from the exports. And that's what it's about, isn't it. Moneygrubbing.
  17. Yes, otherwise how do other clubs get away with it? Women's only gyms. Men's only clubs, that sort of thing.
  18. Does Canada have the restriction of trade thing hanging over their heads?
  19. Yes, there are breeders on DOL who clearly state that they will desex a pup before it goes to a 'pet' home in case the owner turns out to be a puppyfarmer or BYB. And yes, we know it happens - Leo being the obvious case in point.
  20. The export certificate isnt a licence - all it gives is a registration paper for change of owner or chage of residence to one in another country just exactly as it does when an owner changes address or changes ownership within Australia. In NSW we register the pup into the breeders name and then the owner changes it into their name when they get the papers .The only difference is that in this case the owner lives over seas. The NSW Cc doesnt know we are getting the rego papers to export the pup - they tell us we have to register all pups so we do. You miss the point. MacDougal does this for the respectability. It doesn't matter what it actually does, it's the appearance of it. If he doesn't get the papers, he doesn't get the veneer of respectability that he obviously wants.
  21. I wrote this way back in the thread: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?s=&a...t&p=4975666 They don't have to grant the export licence. MacDougal hides behind the veneer of respectability and advertises that he gets his dogs from registered breeders. The CCs can stop that. It's not a restriction of trade, they're simply not granting the licence. After all, it's not needed to export.
