  1. I don't choose to and I object to animal rights people peddling their wares on this forum.
  2. Another story on Sarbi: Bomb-sniffing dog's award a cross to bear
  3. Thanks for that. My Grumpy isn't incontinent but it never hurts to be prepared.
  4. I can imagine it in my house if I tried that one. I'd be made to pay and pay and pay ...
  5. Aside from one ring-in crossbreed as a child, my family have only ever had the Irish terrier breeds. We had several irish terriers growing up and a kerry blue. My sister is the keeper of the irish terrier flame in the family and I am the keeper of the kerry blue flame. On seeing wheatens, my dad and I fell in love with the creatures (my then 72-year-old dad said, 'I want one' on seeing a wheaten for the first time) so I also keep the wheaten flame alive. I adore them. They're clever, independent and hilariously funny.
  6. Metal frame. even better...do you have or can you borrow an angle grinder...works a treat Yeah, I think I'd just rather get a separate bed but good suggestion anyway.
  7. Grumpy always grumps in relation to something. It's not purposelessly as Mac's is. I think it's generally because he can't see my hands or doesn't want me doing something. Have you considered separating the boys? Ikea has a couple of low beds, around 27-33 cm off the ground. Mattress would go on top of that, obviously. There was also something in Domain.
  8. Stop making excuses. You were in the wrong by having your dog offlead. No matter the other person's reaction, you were at fault.
  9. Sorry to hear about the boys having a set to. Could it be that Mac is losing his place in the pack order? Would be very interesting in hearing what you think of the Aktivait. Grumpy had a minor grump at me this evening. He had a stick on his chin and I pulled it off. He doesn't like hands where he can't see them. I said, 'Don't be a silly creature; you had a stick.' He kind of went, oh, and then he was fine. On a slightly different topic, I said to my sister I wanted a lower bed so Grumpy didn't need to jump so high and thus far she's been the only person who hasn't thought I was silly for wanting a different bed just for my dog.
  10. Pro Plan Sensitive does have animal fat in it. When Eagle Pack supplies were scarce, I put my two on Pro Plan. Mini wouldn't touch it and Grumpy got low grade pancreatitis. The main difference in the ingredients is that Eagle Pack doesn't have animal fat in it.
  11. Wear something that will set off the dog's colour, not blend into it. One year at Westminister, nearly all the kerry blue showies wore black or grey, which I thought was rather daft given the colour of the breed.
  12. Gav doesn't have enough posts for OT. He should log in under his previous ID ... if he still can.
  13. Thankfully, Grumpy only barks when he's annoyed at something or when Miss Mini gets him going. He's doing very well, despite his 'mental health' issues. He only has to look at Mini to get her off the couch (he's such an in charge man!) and he still belts around the backyard. It will be interesting to see, though, how he copes with the clocks going back this weekend. He didn't cope well last year and he's wanting to go to bed earlier and earlier now it's getting dark sooner. Mini will take herself off to bed but Grumpy wanting to go to bed generally means me having to go to bed, too. He's very insistent!
  14. Rubbish. The dog was not threatening his animals. It was tied up. If he thought the dog had attacked his animals, he should have gone through the council since the dog, being tied up, was not an imminent danger to anything.
  15. Because most parents aren't qualified teachers, for one. And you miss out on the important social aspect that schools actually provide. Could write a thesis on this, but that will be going OT so I'm going to stop right there. Oh no, don't stop. That doesn't explain how you know. No need for a thesis but as a teacher myself, I do like people to provide a reference list to back up what they're spouting. and here I was thinking it was only me that thought this No, not the only ones. The writing style is very familiar.
  16. Given animal rights whackos, this sentence made me giggle.
  17. Well, that's awesome for you - but don't kid yourself into thinking that home-schooling is as good as primary/high school. Your parents might have been clever and educated enough, but sadly in most cases, this is not the case. That sounds very definite. How do you know? Were you a home school failure?
  18. Vet told me it was an old wive's tale. Princess Mini does the frog. Grumpy used to but doesn't anymore. I think it's a bit sore for him now.
  19. I think the use of the term miniature husky is simply descriptive. Are you like this with every breed not recognised by the ANKC? Must be a lot of breeds you get up in arms about, if so.
  20. Yes do look that up and let us know. There are lots of registires in the world, and ANKC is only one. Thank goodness for that too! Or else all we would have is the ANKC breeds and the world have far fewer lovely breeds to choose from. FCI recognises 341 breeds.
  21. They are registered in UKC and yes they have dog show and they have GrandCham status. Most developing breeds in the US get there start in UKC, many of which will also fight to prevent recognition into AKC as they feel it will ruin their breed. Their web site says they have made application to the AKC for acceptence. Should we look through the AKC roster to see which breeds in the US started in UKC? All the coon hounds you have in ANKC, plus I think a few more in the AKC. American Eskimo started in UKC, and now also in AKC. UKC Parent club for the American Rat terrier, now also in AKC. I just don't have time to look up more, but many many breeds now in AKC and in FCI formed their breed first in the UKC. Seems she is following the proven and tested method of developing a breed. Just a segue, I'm curious to know how many breeds are recognised by the FCI & UKC against the numbers recognised by the ANKC & AKC. I believe there's loads more recognised by the FCI?
  22. Well, when you have Hugh Wirth on the radio telling a woman that her white boxer should have been pts at birth because it would be deaf, it's little wonder that Joe Public is ignorant. Woman never mentioned her dog was deaf and from memory, she rang about diet or a training issue. I hope to god that she didn't get rid of her dog after that.
  23. How old are you? I'm assuming you're 13. Don't bother, I think we have a child with nothing else to do.
