Paws For Effect Takes A Little Longer In Litter
Sheridan replied to poodlefan's topic in In The News
Hopefully there will be a new enforceable code of conduct that will address this in the nearish future... Given that one of the people on the ACT animal welfare committee owns several pet shops, how good do you think it will be? -
Paws For Effect Takes A Little Longer In Litter
Sheridan replied to poodlefan's topic in In The News
I rang TAMS about a BYB in the paper who was selling them at 5 weeks. The guy who called me back said the ACT legislation allows for them to be sold as soon as they're weaned. -
I suspect that the ACT will have breed specific legislation shortly.

For the two dogs I had cremated, I used a pet cremation service. The first the vet arranged and I fretted about that for ages because I didn't arrange it. The second one I arranged and although I had to go to work, my Mum's description of how the fellow picked up my dog very gently and respectfully made me feel better about the first.

Thanks for that, I Googled 'Wheaten specialty show at spring fair' but it appears to be in NSW, is there any in Qld? I don't believe there's still a wheaten club in Qld. Nor do I know of anyone who shows wheatens there. In some news: we now have our new bed. It's fairly low to the ground, about the height of the couch, which Grumpy can still jump up on. I had to cancel the vet appt last week for his back and looks like I'll have to do the same tomorrow, as I've had a meeting booked in at 4.00.

They have, and I was prepared to set something up, but some individuals are determined to make sure it becomes a negative exercise. I have been trying to google other means of donating. If anyone can come with any good ideas or want to collect the funds for "this community" let me know. I dont have the energy for further negativity surrounding this. All you were asked was why you didn't want to contact the paper?

Hi Boronia, that doesn't surprise me. A lot of wheaten people don't actually show. There's a wheaten specialty show at spring fair and I'm hoping to get the day off to go to it. Don't know the likelihood of loads of entries, though.

What Change In Diet Do You Make For Your Seniors?
Sheridan replied to kinsella's topic in Aged Dog Care
I mentioned in the doggy dementia thread that Westiemum started that Grumpy is now on B/D. I've not noticed any discernable difference in him so far but it's only been a couple of weeks. He's not less grumpy or anything. -
I suppose chiro is like feeding raw. There's those that are passionate and won't hear of anything else. I had a dog that had chiro once and screamed all the way through it. Turns out that he had no issues that needed chiro, something that wasn't picked up by the chiro at all. Plus, I don't know of any doggie chiros in the ACT, so chiro for Grumpy is moot.
-
Grumpy is the oldest dog I've had. He's 15 and seven months.
-
No problems so far but he still has the wanders. I'm taking him to the vet on Monday to see about his back because he's had a couple of issues sitting down comfortably. Might have to look at cartrophen injections for that. I've not noticed a huge improvement or a deterioration since he's been back on it full-time, although he quite decidedly dumped his beef ear the other night and stared at me until I gave him something more to his taste!
-
I'll have a chat about chiro to the vet, though I am concerned about Grumpy being grumpy if we go down that route!
-
I think it might be helping though it's hard to tell. My concern about keeping him on the B/D is if there are supply problems. He's previously also had the runs when on chicken based kibble, so I'm keeping an eye out for that. No real tummy trouble since the throwing up incident, though, so I've put him back on the B/D for dinner time and half B/D and half Eagle Pack for breakfast. I think a week or so might be too soon to tell, though, if it's having a real impact. With Grumpy it's always been hard to tell if he's being dementia-y or just grumpy!
-
I notice that Grumpy will come looking for me and if he doesn't find me immediately, he gets very confused. I arrived home on Thursday to find that Grumpy had thrown up his breakfast. He's been on the B/D for a week. No other symptoms other than the throwing up. He didn't get any dinner that evening and was okay the next morning (to Mini's dismay, she was also unfed that evening just in case it was her but I was pretty sure it was Grumpy). I'm now half feeding B/D and half feeding Eagle Pack and he seems just that little bit vaguer since Friday.
-
Pity he didn't leave the money to a more worthy institution.
-
I think I'll discuss cartrophen injections to Grumpy's vet. We just went for a walk and he tripped and his legs went from under him. He's on Sasha's Blend but I think he needs something else. I haven't heard of deer antler tablets so will look into those. Does Bron seem any happier (even though it's only a few days)?
-
Grumpy is doing very well. We're still waiting for the bed to arrive, though. Finally got some B/D but he's only had his first full meal on it today so it's too early to tell. He's getting very picky about bed time, in particular. I stayed up late last night and he got a bit distraught because he wanted to go to bed, therefore I had to go as well. No other symptoms! Good boy, Grumpy!

Thanks, folks. That gives me an idea of the cost.

Do Breeders Like To Hear From Their Sold Puppies?
Sheridan replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
My Grumpy's breeder rings me if he hasn't heard from me for a while. With Princess Mini, I'm in contact all the time with Merijigs (who rehomed Mini to me). -
Thank you for your pointless reply ...

Can owners/breeders of maltese and shih tzus give me an idea of how much a puppy would cost? Ta.
