Herding Workshop - Melbourne

Yay!!! I will organise for a day off work :D Thanks for the link -
Indi has a pair. We got them from Four Paws in Keilor Park (Victoria) There's also another brand out there called K9 Optix, although I don't think they come in the different colours and styles as doggles.

Poor Loki Hope you guys are able to get a little sleep with all that hacking going on. Going waaaay OT - Gamby were you at the werribee obedience club last sunday for the judges workshop? (sorry, just thought I recognised the dog in your avatar as Gambit the Aussie....?)
-
Poor baby My friends labs had kennel cough (she brought home a new lab from the shelter who already had kc, and her other lab caught it). What a nasty, hacking/wheezing sounding cough it was too Hope Rinse feels better soon.

Is this the RSPCA thingy at Burwood (this Sunday I think)? I have been looking at their website but couldn't figure out if dogs could go or not -
Do You Loose Your Temper While Training Your Dogs?

Indi will ignore you if she senses you're frustrated or annoyed with her. She doesn't get upset, she just loses interest in you and walks off to find something else more fun. I have to admit I do sometimes get frustrated with her when she continually lunges at passing cars (we're still getting over our car chasing problem - we're getting there, slowly) -

 Funny thing is her breeder thought she was going to be big and boofy! She just kind of stopped growing - I can pick her up in both arms and carry her around comfortably (and she's about 18 months old now). Tia doesn't have that boofy look about her, she looks pretty long and lean to me (like what I imagine a working Border Collie type to look like) -

Great pics  Indi has crashed in the hallway, those sheepies really wore her out! Kate did such a great job with the dogs and sheep too I loved how they followed her around when she said BAAAAAAA -

OK I don't feel quite so guilty now An evil obedience club cult - that sounds like an interesting idea  CTD - Indi says thankyou for cuddling her today -

I was worried that I might be "cheating" on the other club  -
Probably a dumb question! I am unfortunately am rostered to work on a Saturday and the problem is that it is the same day that obedience training is on I also go to training on Wednesday nights, but it's just one big class comprising of members of different classes (so no chance of promotion). There is another club nearby which trains on a Sunday which would be perfect, but is it naughty to join two different clubs at the same time???

Indi has never been in with the sheep before (she has seen kelpies working before though), so I think she went OK. She couldn't settle down after her second run though, she was jumping and yelping and barking whenever she saw another dog in with the sheep  She REALLY wanted to get back in there again. It was great seeing everyone elses dogs get in there and have a go, Tia was having a great time, and it was good to meet you and your crew leopuppy (even if Indi did act like a cow towards poor Leo ) leopuppy, I noticed some of the dogs got a bit tired during their second run and hung around the gate, so maybe Leo was feeling a bit tired too? The sun was quite warm too. -

I'm going to be there, look out for me and the Border Collie brat! -
I tried to show Indi how to do the weave poles by weaving through them myself. She looked at me like I was a lunatic

How Do You Get Into Dog Sports?
indi_dog replied to Zelahi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Going a bit OT, but anyways... Indi is a smart girl, and if she enjoys what she's doing, will pick it up in a snap. But... if she thinks the exercise you are trying to teach her just plain sucks, or I'm not making it exciting enough then it will take her FOREVER before she decides she wants to do it, making her look pretty dim to anyone watching I guess some dogs could be a bit manipulative when it comes to getting their owners to do what THEY want to do, I know Indi's got that part figured out ;) But hey, if she's having fun then I'm having fun. -
I see some dogs enjoy climbing the A-frame and Dogwalk, but once they're up there, they just stand there grinning and wagging their tails like they're saying nyer nyer just you try and get me down!! I'm convinced the agility course is just a giant dog playground, sometimes it's hard to get them away from it when it's time to go home ;) Come to think of it, Indi was taught to go through the tunnel before anything else, so that's probably why she loves the thing so much.
-
I have just started agility, Indi is really loving it. I'm just curious to know why a lot of the dogs seem to like to tunnel so much What's so special about it?? Is it that crunchy noise it makes when they run through it?? ;) I looked inside of it and it didn't seem all that exciting to me ;) Do all agility dogs have that one favourite piece of equipment?

How Do You Get Into Dog Sports?
indi_dog replied to Zelahi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Start off by joining your local obedience club first. From there, you can really network (ie. find out about different clubs etc as a lot of people there will probably be members of different agility/flyball/tracking etc clubs). That's how I started to get into different dog sports, anyway. I found most members at my obedience club more than happy to help me find out about different dog sports and who to contact. -
Thankyou jesomil I will definitely contact them.
-
I have looked at the Warragul Dogs club page - is the herding training only for dogs actually working on a farm? Indi is a suburbanite, so she's not really a working dog as such...
-
Oh I'm so sorry, my condolences on the loss of Comet My last BC developed arthritis at a very young age too, it just doesn't seem fair (especially for a Border)
-
I've been searching for a while (maybe I've missed it), is there anywhere I can get herding lessons in Victoria?? I live just west of Melbourne... Sorry I'm a bit of a doofus when it comes to these things. Indi's sister apparently did very well in her herding instinct test, so I feel I just can't let this slide by
