Well we just got back, Lynn was absolutely brilliant. She is *the* most patient person I have ever met with both handler and dogs. I got lots of training tips and new methods to try out, hopefully we will be back next year kicking butt For anyone doing the next workshop, bring LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of aeroguard Or maybe one of those hats with the dangly corks.

For The Vic Herding People
indi_dog replied to indi_dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Very informative evening (once we found the room!!!!), it really helped to clarify a lot of things too. They're going to get tougher, and dogs absolutely must have had previous training on stock before entering an Instinct Test. The breakdown of points has changed slightly too for those in started, intermediate and advanced, although I can't remember these off the top of my head (I only just got my HT so I don't know by heart the points breakdowns) They also explained the Herding Champion title, seems like it's going to be pretty damn hard to get!!!! (Haven't got my new copy of the rules yet, otherwise I could write the looooong list of accomplishments you'll need to get that one!!!) -
Anone else from dol going that I can stalk... I mean, look out for

For anyone interested in herding (VIC), you should come along to the discussion night for the new herding rules. Night 1 Wednesday 7th November RAS Showgrounds 7.30pm start Night 2 Wednesday 14th November Lyndhurst Room, KCC Parke, Skye 7.30pm start I copied these dates from the vicdog magazine - you can find further details in the mag. It would be a good chance to meet and greet other herding people too

Purchasing Flyball Equipment
indi_dog replied to indi_dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hey thanks!! I found a much clearer jump design too -
I already sent my deposit in lol Rego form went in todays mail. I hope I get a place (I registered for Foundation). No idea where I'll be staying, any accommodation suggestions in Drouin (dog friendly of course!)??
-
Do any of you cluey flyballers have any links to where flyball equipment can be purchased, specifically the box? I tried checking K-9 sports and equipment but it doesn't seem to be on the web... Is there an Australian "standard" box?

Aussie Shepherd Herding Trial
indi_dog replied to indi_dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Good to see everybody, I was relieved it was such a nice day!! Congrats to all! I thought we did pretty cr@p but we must have done something right to get those two passes  I'm wondering what these big rule changes are going to be (as advertised in the vicdog magazine). -
I know it's freeeeezing out there!!!!!! The cold makes me cranky why can't dog sports ever be held indoors?
-
Werribee isn't a specific agility club - you need to be in class 3 or above to play on the equipment. Some of the people there also go to the Altona club, and some went there briefly and left. We train Wednesday night each fortnight (swapping between obedience and agility), and agility Saturday mornings before obedience classes. We have an absolute ball on Wednesday nights, the classes are less structured but there's always help if you need it.
-
Oh I don't know if I'm going to Kepala, Indi gets really overwhelmed and stressed with all those doggies around her ;)
-
I really want to get into agility as a sport, thats why I'm signing up Werribee is great but I didn't think I was learning much there - it'll be great to practice what I learn at Altona though on the Wednesday nights at Werribee! Especially now its lightening/warming up! Psst, are you coming to Kepala? That's the reason I joined too, but I never "clicked" with the one in Altona The foundation class was OK, but I found it too regimented personally. But then a lot of people love that atmosphere otherwise it wouldn't have been so packed! On the plus side they have some nice equipment.

Aussie Shepherd Herding Trial
indi_dog replied to indi_dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I will be there tomorrow bright and early! Well maybe not bright!! I only need one more HT pass so I entered in both Fingers crossed. Goodluck Superminty I think Mr. Cash will do just fine ;) tadpole I think it should be reasonably dry, the yard has had some time to dry out. I keep a pair of gumboots in my car just in case though -
Vca Inaugural State Herding Trial

We're only in the "test" phase here lol I'm trying to get our second Herding Tested pass this Sunday at KCC Park. I'll be there bright and early at... 7am -
I'm a member but I don't go there anymore too crowded for me to be honest and I didn't really enjoy it much. I prefer Wednesday night agility at Werribee, I like just buggering around on the course and having fun

Ooooh it's on this weekend Who's excited I still haven't got a good stop on Indi. Now she is coming to me and sitting next to me when I tell her to stop

Makes sense to me! Indi has grabbed the stick on occasion with her teeth and tried to duck around it she's a really PUSHY girl who wants to do everything her own way I thought it was just me, but our different trainers have confirmed that she's pushy Here's hoping we can do away with the rake soon, it gets heavy after a while. -

Riles just out of curiosity, how come you don't use a crook when you herd? I was wondering, I'm only new to this sport and I noticed most people like to herd with a stick lol. Or was it just the way you were trained? I tried herding without a crook but Indi is way to fast for me to just use hand signals (actually, I think she just ignores them) - whereas she can't ignore a rake in her face!! -

I wish I could but I'd be lieing, where the tunnel is for the sheep to enter the big paddock, up to your ankles still in mud They did however do the tests in the big paddock, we just brought out extra fencing and made a small yard so unless the other area dries out, I imagine the same will happen at the ASCV trial Phew!!!!! Did they round off the corners like they're s'posed to? -

I haven't been filling in the date of fixture, or the line above it because I have no idea what it means I put down my obedience club in the member of: and club: section, I don't know why you need to do it though? Yes, in the entered part I just cross out the others (obedience class, agility class etc etc) and write herding, and then next to it write down the name of the test you want to do. I also put the date of the test down just incase! Put Abbie's registered name on the form. Remember to write down the registration numbers of Abbie's mum and dad too, that's something I almost missed last time!!
