  1. ok,just gone over him completely and took pics. 2 badly broken canines and a bad yeast infection in one ear. At least he will get treated the way he deserves now.
  2. Dont really like being told to bugger off out of a breed because i cant afford to repeatedly import at around $10000+ each time.My breed have always been low in numbers ,so seems like everybody is in the same boat. Bit rude really-cant afford to import-dont deserve to be a breeder, how about we just let the breed die right out. I am working with a few people who i hope to import a bitch together, but the problem is it has to be an ongoing thing/not just a once off, cause i've seen how that isnt so good long term. And it does take considerable time to develop contacts that will trust you with a o/s dog to start with, sometimes years,so what do yo udo in the meantime?
  3. seems to be a common thing now though, where people buy a dog-but the DOG OWES THEM apparently. The one i just bought was not worth what i paid for him, they wanted more because the 'DOG OWED THEM FOR ITS FEED".He didnt really get a lot of that either, poor bugger.
  4. He will get tested when he has sufficient condition on him,it wont take long with decent feeding.Must be a big culture shock fo rhim at the moment, but he isnt the first bloodhound i have had to fix back up-he'll be fine.
  5. They will find something if they want too
  6. Somehow I think I recall something about this boy...is he a brother to Oscar? Good luck with him & I hope he has a far better 'next' 4 years than his last 4!! Any news yet on the import?? Yes,he is a full brother, not quite in the same condition though. From a side shot he doesnt look too bad,but from the back he is only skin and bone and his eyes have been very neglected. He isnt taught to lead properly, petrified of being in the car and claustrophobic in the dog yard-tried to rip his way out.He was more settled tonight though, week or so he will be a different dog. Moves beautifully, has the longest stride on him.Very friendly and great with all the other dogs and seems very kid focused. He will be getting his makeover tomorrow, starting with a bath, because he really did stink badly! Such a shame, last pics i saw of him were at 18 mths when he was for sale originally, and he didnt look too bad then. Import girl is out of jail and settling in well apparently with her owner.
  7. Just picked up a new boy today(well, hes 4,so technically not a boy ). Poor thing has spent his life on a chain and needs at least 15 kgs on him.Beautiful natured though, and he will be quite a nice dog when filled out and gets some muscle on his legs, pretty much skin and bone and neglected. The girls have already welcomed him-Cadwallader Ernulf. Will post pics tomorrow and then 6 weeks time to see how he improves. Why do people do that to these dogs?
  8. Labkisses-that is just waay too much information, and coming so closely after Angelsuns post too
  9. Thank god i had just finished my coffee,or i would have to get a new computer
  10. Dogs also keep ejaculating for quite a while ,as do pigs( and boy ,did i get sick of mating pigs ) so maybe what you are seeing is the "pre-ejaculate".The good stuff is behind that Good luck with your girl.
  11. My girl that was AI'd was inseminated day 16= 9 puppies. The other girl was day 17=13 puppies,so dont give up hope yet!
  12. Mine cost around $12-15 week each to feed.Edward eats more than the adults I use majority raw(chicken mince, vegies, eggs, fish etc) and coprice working dog for all of them-around 1 medium pal tin per day of dry divided into 2 feeds.
  13. Maybe go with a fresh AI just to be sure. The problem with some males too is that unless the bitch is spot on/ovulating(and most males CAN tell ) they will bugger around. When it comes to the crunch though, they seem to manage it in an instant.I had one bitch that would stand, tail flagging, mounting other dogs for 9 days, but she only ovulates near the end,and her daughter is the same.
  14. over here,AI for some breeds that are numerically tiny would be essential for genetic diversity-no t everyone has a spare $10000=15000 to import, and Ai is the alternative. I am not keen on doing a 20+ hr drive each way to use the dog i want when it could be done with AI,but i do understand about sires being able to serve naturally before being allowed to do the AI route.
  15. The govt vet i had to see to send a pup to NZ went to give her 4 ml of ivomec as a heartworm treatment. He was a bit red faced when i pointed out the dose was 1 ml per 30 kg-she was 23 I would watch him carefully for signs of organo-phosphate poisoning though being a young pup.
  16. My vets use arrest easy dose(cattle) think it was about 1 ml? on top of their head.
  17. I did offer to buy back first off,but not anymore. It is too easy for people to have some hiccup in their lives and ask for their money back-this happened 3 times. I do feel bad if you lose your job, decide to have more kids 12 mths later and havent got time etc-but really that is the owners responsibility.I have had to work around it,others need to as well. Now it just gets drummed into the owners that if they really cant keep the dog,it will come back to me-i pay freight ,desexing etc and rehome when a suitable home comes up.
  18. I will take back anything i have bred, will also foster if i can(not when i have pups though for obvious reasons).I hate seeing older hounds dumped. There is a unreg. female not far from me they are trying to sell-i have already talked to her and they will only sell her as a pet,but she has my number if they cant sell her ,and rather than put her in the pound, she will come here to be rehomed.Dog is from victoria.
  19. I agree with the others, find a vet first experienced with your breed.I once had pups diagnosed with entropian, sent me into a mad panic.Calmed down, got a second opinion, then had specialist look, and guess what-no problem! The vets i had used hadnt even seen a bloodhound before, and i sent the best one off to a pet home due to "suspected" entropian-had a look at 6 mths old and there was no sign of the problem. I too would think about returning the pup,he will have arthritis later in life from the surgery ,failing that,if you are determined to keep him,see if they will maybe help pay for part of the ops etc instead. They arent really obliged to do that though unless the pup goes back. Good luck either way,he is a gorgeous boy.
  20. That was her second show yesterday,so i am pretty stoked.I just hope Edward goes as well at his next show.
  21. Just a bit of a brag for one of my babies-Centitout New Moon at Berwick open? show yesterday. Baby puppy in group-go Bella. Owners are very happy with her,she actually went in 2 shows yesterday, the ag show and the open one and both judges really liked her.Somehow i dont think she will be coming back to me in a hurry
  22. I opted for cortisone for Bono, rersearched people that had done chemo, and quite a few of the dogs were sickly, constant vet visits etc.Only a few had relatively few side affects.I would have rather he lived 3 good months than 12 crappy ones where he was sick all the time. As soon as it started to spread at 3 mths ,he was let go peacefully before he was too sick. All the cortisone did was make him eat more, pee more but it did reduce the nodules in his throat right down so there was no pressure when he was breathing.
  23. The one we had was already dead and had started to decompose, that is what affected the last pups and they developed septicemia( repro vet opinion). Some are born alive, and if mild they can put pressure suits on them to drain the swelling in the literature i read.
  24. I was going to enter Edward,bu tmissed the entries,i am just going to take him for the day anyway to socialise.I may see you there (well,i dont know any of you personally off here, you may have to come and say hello )I'll be the one with a bloodhound !!! Kandos /rylstone - I am from there(dont tell anyone though),so not in a hurry to go to the show there
