  1. there is a giant breed of chook, cant remember the name, but i bought 100 day olds. They averaged 3.2 kg when killed at 5 mths. They had a slower growth rate as we raised them under normal conditions,no artificial lighting or confinement,or AB'S.
  2. yes,was a miserable day, wasnt it Yes,bitches have been on it for the last year, and look great. They are all on working dog,the pups were on coprice puppy, then at 12 weeks intergrated the working dog in.I have all my pups on adult by 4 months.
  3. First bloodhound bitch died of bloat at 2,was found dead in morning.Had had dry food(Bonnie)and meat mix that night ,normal amount,no excercise.Raised food bowl . 9 yr husky- 1/2 tin pal mixed with small amount pedigree dry.Bloated 1/2 hr later, vet tried to de-cant,was sucessful first time, but re bloated 20 mins later. Was euthanised.Found to have large tumours on spleen.
  4. Coprice fed pups-bitches had been on it for 6 mths prior as well.Seems to work for my dogs,bu tit only makes up 1/3 of their diet, rest raw
  5. I used it because breeders were being called retards, stupid, liars, unethical and for no other reason than they didnt like some of the responses, which IMO werent nasty until the first shots were fired, and even then were tame compared to some threads.
  6. I have only ever owned one rottweiler, but i was just reading one of the posts that says they are still used for breeding with elbow scores of 3? That cant be true ,surely,i hope i just read it wrong as that would be a fail for most breeds.I wouldnt even use a 2,either o or 1 max for me.
  7. I used it for the first time last night when 2 long standing memebers who are one of the reasons i like this forum copped a disgusting post from a new poster.i See that the thread has been removed this morning by Troy. It is not something i would do lightly, but there is healthy debate, and there was that extreme reaction that wasnt so healthy directed at others.
  8. I have heard the same crap from dry food manufacturers about using raw meat-hormones have not been used since the 70's.Low dose AB'S are often fed to chicks, but with the chemical screening these days,no way is there hormones etc being fed without authorities knowing about it.My dogs are primarily chicken fed-litters of 14,18,13 and lowest of 9 and 8.
  9. If it were me,i wouldve refunded your money, but allowing you to keep the affected pup if you wish,or return it,bu tit wouldnt have been rehomed to someone else,it would have stayed with me. If it is something vets cant agree on the mode of inheritance, and it occurs as an isolated incident, how can breeders screen for it if a lot of cases are sub-clinical? I wouldnt repeat that breeding, but i would want to know which dog was affected before removing them from the gene pool and siblings as well.If it was KNOWN which parent was affected ,and then still bred from, that is completely different and a very serious problem.
  10. The simple thing would be to remember, for ANY dog,is they should never be taken for granted,or indeed trusted. After a long association with dogs and horses/pigs etc,i DO NOT trust any of them ,especially at particular times-they are animals and will act like it.They should be respected for what they are -an animal capable of serious injury, regardless of species, size, breed, disposition. Seen too many very serious injuries from 'BOMBPROOF" horses and ponies from people that 'TRUST' the horse and let toddlers lead sometimes 16hh horses around.Same with dogs.
  11. Mine are fed on it,the pups were fed on the puppy and then at 3 mths put onto working dog.The bitches were in beautiful nick-and i feed it BECAUSE it is rice based, not wheat or corn. 3 weeks prior to whelping i add the puppy to the bitches dry as well. They are on majority raw1/3 dry though, not just kibble. I have also had no more problems with sloppy end result, dry coats and they keep weight on easily. No joint probs(ie east /west fronts) and at 5 mths, edward is 37 kg,so very heavy fro his age,the other pups are around the 32/35 kg as well. So i think its great
  12. Val Bonney believes that one reason dog attacks have increased is because of the increase in the use of positive training. I agree with this, the whole 'JUST IGNORE BAD BEHAVIOUR" and reward every time you look at them is NOT suitable for all dogs.My dogs run as a pack, and they will do as they are told, there is no excuse for bad behaviour.Aversion training and negative punishment do have their place.
  13. I only vaccinate every 3 years,th epups get done now at 8 weeks. off topic,bu ti had the full course of everything when i was a kid, then proceeded to get all the things i had been vaccinated for! Measles badly, mumps very badly and whooping cough-these were all around the 7 yr old age Vaccinated for hep b in the SES last year, had to have a titre test to test all dieases for my aged care course, and it came back with absolutely no immunity to hep b,measles, mumps or rubella- how does that work???? So even with vaccination, some animals may not "sero convert'(i think thats what the doctor told me).
  14. I dont know ,but i do know that years ago my ex- husband bought a rottie.Beautiful dog-he would not desex him though despite my arguments. This dog grew up with the kids,i was very pedantic with the kids and dogs ie always under supervision, and th ekids were taught from the time they could crawl to be gentle. This dog loved the kids,he would follow them around whereever they went,if they looked like going out of the house yard he would alert me. He turned 2,and one day the 2nd youngest just walked towards his father and the dog just went for him-no warnings, just full on snarling, hackles and teeth showing and the bounding ,stiff legged gait.I was there right next to my son when it happened, the dog had been sitting with the kids only minutes prior. So yes, a dog can turn in an instant,it doesnt matter for what reason, unless the dog is being hurt or has been abused, there is no excuse for it and they should be put down,as this dog was immediately. Thanks for sharing your story Centitout, a very sad situation. You do hear other similar stories with kids involved. I have always wondered if perhaps conflict exists in the pecking order bewteen dogs and kids??? Dogs that have snapped and bitten kids in the family generally have never aggressed towards the adults, leaders of the pack. I am experienced with dogs/horses,especially entire males ,i dont care ,if a dog shows unprovoked aggression to anyone, that dog will be euthanased no questions asked. It doesnt matter if there is conflict in the pecking order,or they still have balls,or they view the kids as lower down the order,whatever- human aggression is not ok in any circumstance.I do not tolerate it and it is not always someone not picking up signals.I dont care if a bitch is in season,or a new dog has been added that has caused a shift in the balance,it is not excused or condoned in this house. The only exception i would make is a dog that has been abused,or is being hurt.

  16. I wore 3 together not long ago,and my now ex-fiance took video- i still bounced everywhere.I think the strapping tape is coming out this saturday.
  17. So what can we do? Little short of trying to find a sympathetic member for parliament, petitions etc.Takes money for tv advertising etc, which unlike the rspca most of us dont have. Suggestions anyone? My breed is already targeted in the uk-ears,eyes ,wrinkles ,weight etc.
  18. ok,not everyone has thousands lying around in an emergency.I had to leave my job last year due to a work injury, and it has taken 8 mths to finally get some part time work-lots of people here looking for jobs at the same time.I rented this place when i moved because it was to be a long term lease-just got informed last night that the owner is now selling it. So that means i will have to now rehome most of my dogs because it took months to find somewhere to have them to start with and we already had people looking at the house today. That was the reason i moved, because i could have the dogs and i pay an extra $100 week so i could do that compared to where i was before. I am on a single parent pension, the dogs have never gone without-they get fed before we do,and i am very lucky i have great vets that i can do a payment plan if anything happens, but those vets are in the minority. I wouldnt have $50 spare at the moment, let alone $1100 if there was a real emergency. And i cant afford pet insurance on 6 dogs-i dont even have private health insurance for my family,i get by each week but only just. I had to put the cat i hand raised down at 9 yrs old a week after xmas because he developed an acute ,severe bladder stone- I was looking at $1500 just to do the emergency surgery, and the vet was not hopeful he would even survive that, and he had a 10% chance of not having irreperable kidney damage, resulting in lots more money to keep him alive. So i did the best thing for him,i wouldve paid the money but not with him going to have kidney failure. People do not know what can happen tomorrow or the next day, circumstances can change in an instant.Last week i got a job but today now have to save up $2000 in bond again to rent somewhere else, the car needs major suspension work,my daughter needs $5000 + in dental work over the next year,my fiance and i broke up and i need physio on my shoulder 2-3 times a week which i go without to make sure i can feed the dogs ,health test etc. So i can see where sometimes people just CANT scrape up the extra money and they should not be judged because of it.
  19. The dog needs to have lived continuously in that country for 6 mths as well i think, but that might apply to older dogs.
  20. It is 150 days AFTER the blood is drawn for the rabies titre test, then 30 days quarantine if Canada is a CATAGOURY 4 country(pretty sure it is). You can certainly fly the dog at 60 days post titre test, but they will have to be in quarantine till 180 days have passed since the blood was drawn for the test, better rob a bank at $40 day
  21. i dont go checking the bites on all my pups unless they are ones i am looking at showing etc,i dont bother until they are 6 weeks old at least anyway when i make my final choices, the breeder was honest and if not a bad overbite, should have no impact on the pup as a pet at all. I would want to see copies of all the health tests though and get someone knwledgable to look at them(not neccessarily a vet either,a good breeder if you know any is a start)
  22. Ok,i feel better now, thought i'd crossed some unwritten rule or something :D or would have to squint my way around the ring.
  23. I have to wear dark glasses as i have extremely sun sensitive eyes due to years of hay fever and it causes physical pain with even the slightest glare.I didnt realise other exhibitors found it annoying
  24. Had a dog 3 yrs ago have a similar reaction-they use something else now instead.Wouldnt matter if it was high on neck or between shoulder blades-shouldnt cause a reaction like that.
  25. I never feed from raised either, and i also DONT restrict water at any time.I cant see how that works, just makes the dog more thirsty and will drink more? The only thing i do ,is i dont feed for 1 hr after strenuous excercise, and if very hot i will either feed very late and only 3/4 of the normal feed,or i just give them a frozen chicken frame.Same goes for travelling anywhere. Picked up my very skinny new bloodhound the other day,and nearly died when the driver said he had fed him 5 times that day,all dry food, because he was so skinny Hourly checks all that night.
