I also put in my emails expected waiting times,or direct them to other breeders,as well i also put in suitable times to contact me by phone. Most phone calls generally last around an hour, they are the ones i know who are serious, and i prefer people to ask heaps of questions-its called RESEARCH! We do it as breeders,so why shouldnt a potential puppy owner? My definition of time waster is someone who says to definately put them on the waiting list, pup gets to 6 weeks and you ask for the deposit, and they tell you they bought a diff breed,or cant afford it or whatever. I dont think its rude to tell people that there is a waiting list with a lengthy time frame, and if they cant wait-to try a different breeder.

So how did you find out an entire litter was affected-did the breeder tell you?Just interested ,not flaming you

I have seen, like Jed,more colic cases than i can remember. Most acute and severe, several resulting in euthanasia.I had a horse that suffered repeated bouts of colic due to worm damage before i bought her,the last one resulted in a twisted bowel before her stomach ruptured. In all cases i have seen, they have sweated, the last one i identified for the owner(they were leasing the paddock at my house) in the early stages and called the vet out,he had impaction colic and even in the very early stage, had light sweating on the neck and behind the elbows. And a lot of vets do clip the area for an iv injection in a horse, same as they would any other animal being euthanased.

I lost my bloodhound last year to lymphoma,he was only 2.5.Was given 4-6 weeks life expectancy ,we decided not to do chemo after researching and kept him on high dose cortisone. He did well for 3 mths, you wouldnt have known he was sick except for the enlarged nodes, but as soon as it started to spread to his lungs,he was given his wings so he didnt spend the last week or 2 sick.

What difference does it make if its a TB,clydie, pony or arab? She has other horses as well, maybe ask her vet how many times they have had to treat fence related injuries? And i have broken in TB'S,owned TB'S and worked with TB'S nearly all my adult life,on and off the track. They are no different to any other horse, yes, you will get ones that are idiots, but you can apply that to any breed, type of horse. Its a blanket statement that all TB'S apparently are idiots and should only go to a home with special TB fencing, sort of like saying that all pitbulls are dangerous. I have also broken in/ridden many other breeds and crosses, and some of them were absolute nightmares to handle on the ground or on their backs or in the paddock.

Fences were obviously NOT the issue,as they allowed her to care for the horse for7 MONTHS!!!!!!! The monthly vet check was something needed as horses, dogs etc that have been severely malnourished can often have ongoing problems due to malnutrition-you cant just pump them full of feed-severe laminitis would be one complication,so it is a process that takes months to get condition on them. She looked in pretty good order to me for a horse that had been formerly starved and she did the responsible thing in having the horse monitored monthly. I have seen horses that lived in junk yards etc all their lives, never a scratch, and then seen several TB'S rip their throats/chests out when they ran full gallop into the million dollar post and rail 6 ft high fences and they broke and impaled them,or broke their legs when they kicked their stables.I have seen a TB paw at the straight wires that ran through the post and rail fence, hook it on its fetlock and pull out 200 mts of it,and its tendons in the process.I have also seen a TB yearling filly that didnt want a needle, totally destroy a vet crush built to very expensive TB standards, this crush was designed for the clydies that were also bred there,so how much safer can you make it? Fencing/colic was not the issue, and everyone knows it.If the horse was deemed to have such severe ongoing issues,it would have been assessed by the idiots and something done about it way before 7 mths-funny how they waited till the horse was in "adoptable" condition before it was taken and put up fpr adoption. There apparently was a lot of public interest in the horse according to the newspaper, and the RSPCA SAID THEMSELVES "FIRST IN ,BEST DRESSED",they sure as shit didnt say anything about checking out potential homes for fencing suitability.
-
I was involved with TB'S for 15 + years, and most of the really bad(and i mean BAD) accidents occured in the million dollar post and rail top notch fenced paddocks. So all horses now have to be in million dollar fences to meet rspca standards of fencing??? Oh,and some really bad injuries occured while the horses were stabled, maybe we need to provide them with padded stalls now too? Also, all the cases of colic i have seen over the years(hundreds) the vets ALWAYS suspect encysted worms i f other obvious causes can be immediately ruled out and treated accordingly. So that makes those particular vets up there either incompetent,or just plain ignorant. Was the vets involved large animal vets, cause most small animal vets do not know one end of a horse from the other, other than the basics taught at school. And i agree with Jed-IF the horse was that bad it had to be pts-she should of been afforded the decency of being asked to attend,or at least told. But we will never know, will we?
-
Give the idiots a rope and hopefully they will hang themselves with it ANY person with any horse sense at all, knows stress is a contributing factor with colic, changes of feed, even water can trigger it-hence why most people that compete with horses prone to colic even take their own water/feed.Absolute dickheads, there is enough grounds for a current affair story to start getting put together, maybe someone could send links to the newspapers about all the bungled cases.a sort of hand delivered story. And i'm not quite sure, but i thought i read somewhere a while ago, that windsucking collars were deemed "cruel"(guess who???),you have to use the new "humane" ones?????? I have seen hundreds of windsuckers on the studs over the years, riding horses etc with their so called 'cruel" collars ,and they didnt look like they were suffering to me,they werent windsucking as bad as they would have otherwise. And some horses will windsuck even if they have never been stabled(for those that will say they do it because they are locked in stables all day,and not running through green meadows) Poor foster carer,i really hope the backlash from this is huge and more people start to question the motives of the business that is the rspca-they are a disgrace.

Rspca Shelters In Uk To Turn Away Unwanted Pets And Strays

I despair for the human race when such narrow minded, blinkered, self righteous, judgemental people without the slightest hint of compassion or humility are around. I am glad i choose not to associate with people like that. I'll open the door for you to go through, dont let it slam on your a%$#e on the way out. -
If there are kids clothes in the backpack, where is the kid? No one yet has worried about that, and as sad as i feel for the poor dogs,I am quite shocked no one has expressed concern for a child who may be missing/run away. On the other hand,if it was an adult/teenagers etc, well, what goes around comes around and hopefully someone will do to them what they have done.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of unregistered bloodhounds,a lady that i turned away because she "didnt care about the papers, she just wanted a bitch to breed " got quite "irritated" with me and said she couldnt see the big deal as there was a lady down there who was quite happy to sell her a bitch,no questions asked WITH PAPERS if she paid the extra $500 She apparently has 6 bitches. She refused to give me the name of the breeder though, and i know there is a vet down there that breeds unregistered hounds regularly. I have discussed this with my vets(they are the ones who put spanner down) and they will desex any future pups for me at 12 weeks. It is not recommended at all for large breeds(early desexing) bu t it is the only way to safeguard the dog. I dont know how anyone can breed a litter, with all the associated heartache and effort that goes in ,to just ship them off at 8 weeks and never want to hear how they are .I got the nicest surprise when the owner of one i sent to NZ 3 years ago rang me the other week and thanked me for sending Chance to them, they told me what shes like, cant keep her out of the pool, loves his grandkids and now i keep in contact via facebook,as do a few of my other previous puppy owners. Unfortunately though, todays economics mean it is the majority who now think of their pets as a way to make extra money. Here are some of my guys -this is what all bloodhounds deserve to be treated like

Rspca Shelters In Uk To Turn Away Unwanted Pets And Strays
centitout replied to gillbear's topic in In The News
Chocolate lover, there is plenty of info on the witchhunts the RSPCA has conducted on innocent people/purebred dog breeders, horse riding establishments etc,for ridiculous "breaches" of little known laws by untrained inspectors that dont know one end of a animal from the other. Or the animals that are used publicly to generate public donations, and then pts AFTERWARDS.Or that ridiculous tv show where you can see the sheer incompetance/lack of training/animal handling skills there so called inspectors have, all the while puppy farms continue with there blessing. And they are not there for all creatures-they are a business-pure and simple. If it doesnt make money,or there are costs involved, they arent interested. AND dont get me started on that absolutely ridiculous temp test which sees most animals fail. There are a few reasons for yo uthat a lot of people loathe them-and i did used to be a supporter up until money became there first priority. -
Rspca Shelters In Uk To Turn Away Unwanted Pets And Strays

I find it appalling that you would actually warn someone off going to check out the dogs at the RSPCA !! The ones up for adoption have been health checked and temp tested, for goodness sake !! Whatever your feelings about the organisation are, it's irresponsible to bad mouth them to someone who may have given one of the dogs a home. Better to have given her the OPTION of the other rescue groups to consider as well. There are a lot of very dedicated workers in the RSPCA who are working on the coal face as it were and it is a sad and sorry state of affairs when other dog lovers cannot support them in the work they do. Yes there are problems as in any large organisation but badmouthing and running down does nothing to address the issues. I have recently adopted a purebred dog of my favourite breed from the Sydney shelter. He had failed his temp test so could not be adopted out to Jo public. The staff there went to a great deal of trouble to find a home for him as there was no breed rescue in place and with a lot of phoning about they were told I might help out. I have nothing but admiration for what the staff are doing and my experience of dealing with them was totally positive from start to finish. I personally do not agree with some of the policies but publicly bashing them will not change anything .As with most big organisations I am thinking that the way things are done probably differ from shelter to shelter on many points depending on how well managed they are from the ground up. I can actually understand how the UK organisation is thinking, I imagine they are so overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of animals in need that it is necessary at some point to drawer a line in the sand. Cruelty cases must have an advocate and be a priority surely. Before you jump in and flame me about all the other animals being abandoned and needing help etc, I am well aware that it is a huge problem, I have no idea what the answer to it all is but bad mouthing the RSPCA will not help in any way. If you hate the policies so much here in Australia then get involved and start trying to do something from the inside or as an organised group to lobby for change. I wont support them ever,as long as my arse is pointing to the ground(as my dad used to say) and have certainly told people to go elsewhere-there are other shelters/rescuers that are more deserving. -
Mine wont, and i dont like having them done that early, but after seeing that hound that they pts the other day that i rescued, they are changing their minds.I am seriously considering getting all pet girls done at 12 weeks, and sending them off 2 weeks later. I have had 2 boys done at 12 weeks, didnt even need stitches, grew to the same height, weight and musculature as the others done at 8 mths+.
-
After telling them how much others have paid-they are going to query the cost when they take her to have the stiches out. One of the things was "internal stitches" ????? All animals have both internal stitches(Visorb) and external ones(supramid) so i cant see any thing in that to warrant the price difference? As i explained,i cant give some owners $250-300,and others nearly $600 because they went to a more pricey vet!
-
I've had more x -breds/rescues over my lifetime, than purebreds, and i loved them all the same. But i will only ever buy /have now a registered purebred.I like being able to trace relatives/health testing(yes,i know, genetics can still be a bitch :D ).I like knowing the temps of relatives,i no longer want to have an unknown quantity (and i feel the same way now with boyfriends ,i want to see a 5 generation pedigree, and get a temp test done ) I've had purebreds with problems, and i /my family have had rescues etc with just as many problems, but without breeder support. I like Annes post? -who gives a f $#@ what other people think. But if someone come up to me and said a dog has been killed in a shelter because i have a papered purebred-i will probably just punch them!

If Early Early Signs Of Pregnancy Indicate Large Litters.
centitout replied to Kaffy Magee's topic in Breeders Community
Bronte didnt look huge up until the 6 weeks mark, and she had 18. Another was the same size, didnt show at all until 6 weeks(only a little thickened around waist) and she had 11.Leila wasnt huge either until the 6 week mark, and she had 14. So i dont think early size is indicative of large litters. -
I spoke to the owners, and they just thought that was normal price, but are happy to get $300(couldnt give them any more anyway ).I didnt realise some vets charge like a general surgery-i've never heard of desexing being that dear, but saying that,my vets only charge around $800 for something big-hit by car, spleen removal and 4-5 hrs in surgery sewing everything back together-I so love my vets right now :D And they also never advocate bloods or fluids for healthy ,young dogs.Anything that is poor, old or pre existing condition though is given fluids/testing.
-
The only time i have seen bitches put on fluids is when they are having a c-section or are pregnant at time o f desexing.I didnt even have fluids when i had a big inguinal hernia repair,or come to think of it-pain relief
-
I dont mind paying for the op,but i am not paying for pre bloods, pain relief(all dogs are given metacam prior to waking and that is included in the price) gold thread etc! That is 1/2 the price of the pup,so i will either have to make people do them younger, charge heaps more for a pup or cap it at $300.None of the others have been that much, just cant see why the same op is double? It was routine,no complications etc. And she hasnt been in season yet either,my vets charge an extra $40 for that if it cant be put off.
-
My vets do,they also have endoscopic equip and new digital x ray machines, vet nurse monitors animal at all times.
-
34 kg female spey at my vets(without my discount if i do the vet nursing) $260.Just rang them as it has been a few months.
-
My vets go by weight ,as do most others,so if that is the case, they will have to be done earlier. Its little wonder so many people now wont get their females desexed,my emergency c-section at 2 in the morning +xrays, fluids,ABS etc was only $1200 all up and she was desexed at the same time,so added a further hr to the op time.
-
I didnt say any amount unfortunately, just that i would send a rebate if done by 8 mths. The other girl that was done up there(different area) 6 weeks ago was only $285. I will certainly be changing my contract to specify max of $300.I may as well of just given her the dog If push comes to shove though,i will pay it,but she will have to wait a few weeks for the extra. I think a $300 rebate is quite generous.
-
three vets-1 is the ones i use ,another is in the same town and the other i slocated closer to me here. I dont mind paying for the actual op,but i am not paying for all the other things like pre-anaesthetic bloods etc. Just one more reason why i am taking a break from breeding ,the costs for a litter are just getting too high.
