  1. Watched to much Enemy Of The State/The Net type movies!!
  2. Centitout - I have room here for you too, if you can get down. Thanks Erny, will have to see what i can do,i actually have my first show coming up in 3 years that weekend as well, but it isnt a big deal. To tell the truth, flying scares the crap out of me
  3. I don't get it....they are BEAGLES!! Whats wrong with the drive to scent - they are SCENThounds...am I missing something?? Why would anyone want to change a Beagle??? I hope no one starts breeding bloodhounds that dont want to sniff, that is part of their appeal. I cant understand it either,if you dont want a dog that sniffs,or needs a lot of excercise,or needs a good daily brush or other special needs-they should do their research and actually pick a breed THAT IS SUITED, there are lots out there to choose from, they should not expect the breeds very essence to be changed to suit a few .
  4. If someone was driving down there and i could share a lift i may possibly be able to go,or maybe fly-getting to canberra is the hard part to catch a plane as my partner doesnt drive at all.
  5. This seminar is not anti-pure breeds. It would be so great if you would actually come and see and listen and speak and participate and be a part of the day. How else will you share your viewpoints, research and experiences? That's what these speakers are aiming to do - share ideas and be open to discussion. Come along and be part of it! If i lived in Vic i would. And if not anti purebred-why so little input from the recognised CC,breed clubs or breeders-the majority of speakers dont breed purebreds do they ? But then maybe i am just anti puppy farming/pet shops,DD
  6. Of course no one from the canine councils,MDBA would have been invited, registered breeders are the ones they will be bagging out-we are responsible, according to some, for everything that is wrong in dogs, purebred , genetic or not, because we like the breeds we do,they are not interested in our viewpoints, research or experiences, minds are already made up that the only way dog health will be fixed is to force us out through ridiculous legislation or to breed The ideal "generic " oodle dog. Oh,and crossbreds do not have any health problems because of their HYBRID VIGOUR according to the experts,so lets everyone breed another 400,000 a year,as long as they are part of an "association' thats all fine. Dont think i could sit through that. Call me cynical, but i agree with Erny- I wonder what hare brained legislation will be formed next for the non -puppy farmer, mass pet shop producer?
  7. I have had 2 bitches now that will stand to mate for up to 9 days, vets told me they will only stand for max 4 Whilst they would accept the male, they both dont ovulate till around day17/18-maybe they are just tarts! I know you are supposed to go with the first mating, but with my guys the last time i went from the AI date, and it was spot on 60 days for both.
  8. I have very forgiving dogs luckily, and every time i cop a wet nose where i shouldnt,i swear i will put on pants next time.
  9. I would much rather deal with people who will take the time to meet us and our dogs prior to the bitch even being mated and every single puppy prospect has either bought us photos of all prior dogs - their house etc etc or have invited us to inspect their home as well. The real world is where the dog will live and thats what I am interested in. Thats the way i do it ,we had several owners stop in when the pups were 2 weeks old,2 from qld!! Ones that take the time to ring me when i ask them too from the original enquiry go onto the shorter list to start, the ones that keep ringing me,emailing, sending vet reports, refs etc go to the top and i work with those ones. I think it is actually a little invasive to look at peoples houses via the internet,i can understand why some do it however, just not for me.I will no longer walk around feeding the dogs in a g-string,thongs and singlet,i'm paranoid one of you guys may see it now via satellite or something:laugh: You are always going to have some that dont turn out ideal, minimising the chances is all you can do. I think i heard it right ,someone (a puppy enquirer) for some breed was asked by the breeder for their last tax return???To me thats just going way over the top.
  10. I was going to suggest waterlogged soft paws and beach sand too. Also second paw paw ointment-i use it for my kids and dogs I would also get her xrayed at the end of the week-will be a lot quicker to identify the problem,if nothing too worrying shows up -i would look into a chiro .
  11. I had a male years ago,he was absolutely gorgeous, was a little on the territorial side with other dogs, but tolerated them if told too,the desexed female rescue we took in though was totally different, very dog aggro and so hyper it wasnt funny, she used to run behind the ute when we fed out the horses,so wouldve done up to 10 kms day. Fantastic with us though ,both of them to the point they would fret if we went away for a few days.
  12. There have been many that have tried to cross bloodhounds over other large breeds to produce "better nosed" piggers, but from most i have spoken too it hasnt really been as effective as they had hoped, the purebred still comes out on top for trailing ability, whether hunting or man trailing.
  13. Thanks Ellz-have used it on horses, just didnt know how safe it was long term
  14. Does anyone on here know any way to stop mosquitos biting the dogs? For a few weeks all the dogs, including the kids chi, have been scratching like mad-they all camp under a big conifer,so i thought it may be a contact irritant, then the owner sprayed a mix of dead chooks, straw and poo all over the back side paddock,so i thought maybe mites? Havent seen any though, and when i was out hanging up the washing last night(next to the big shady conifer) i was standing in clouds of mosquitos which stung like buggery when they bit-the itch lasted for hours. Any way to keep them off the dogs?
  15. How dare people comment like that-they havent seen your puppies personally-i would of sent them back a very strongly worded email.I'm like some of the others-i absolutely DO NOT care what others think about my pups,so far i have 12 exceptionally happy owners and thats all that matters, and i have my 2 show pups which i am very happy about (most important :D ) Tell them to blow it out their $#@&
  16. I took on a 9 yr old husky named Max ,i was his 4 th home in 2 yrs.H e had severe arthritis, but apart from that he was the best non bloodhound dog i have ever been priveliged to own.He spent his last yr with us loved, was a total part of our family ,sadly he had to be put to sleep after bloating due to a splenic tumour which was inoperable. I wouldnt hesitate to adopt an old dog,and when we own our own place,we will be able to do it more often.
  17. I wont give up my dogs ever again, had to do it once before, but thats me,i'm not in your situation. Sometimes we do have to do things we dont like, and i dont envy you ,but if i absolutely had to,i would do the same as persephone with a very old dog,IF you cant find someone suitable to look after him that you trust. Best wishes,i know whatever you decide will be hard.
  18. I tried the breeders one as i wanted to send puppies with the 6 weeks insurance, got all the breeder numbers etc after a week or so,then i emailed them with the number of pups i needed it for and still havent heard anything-pups went nearly a month ago So i will look at a different company.
  19. So what used to cost $50 or less, now costs $120 +,vet visit and professional dentist. How many will just ignore the horses teeth probs now?
  20. By "float their teeth" (I've not heard that term) you mean file their teeth? As in, the normal and regular care maintenance thing that we do? I never knew that the horse was now meant to be sedated . I have a horse who stands patiently having sharp corners of his molar teeth filed smooth. He doesn't wear a gag for the job. No twitches. Nada. I'm now supposed to sedate him? WTF? I'm pretty sure in NSW they have to be sedated by a vet now, came in about 2 years ago,was in THE LAND newspaper. We used to do our horses teeth without sedating too, only if it was a big job did we call in the horse dentist, most of the time we used to sedate them ourselves anyway only if required. Sorry-yes "floating their teeth" is the same as filing!!!
  21. My friends son has it,there are other associated problems with it too-eye probs, growth (normally requiring surgeries) and heart probs. Sorry OT
  22. And the reason the rspca will pull out everything they can regarding debarking is exactly because most people DONT have a problem with a minor procedure being performed on a dog to shut it up if a chronic barker, and i think they are starting to realise that.Just waiting for the emotive ads to start re "debarking". And the fact that rspca inspectors have no animal skills or even a clue-is beyond comprehension-maybe we need to speak to someone like the farmers federation or something ,and unite under them? They would have more clout than a single group? Wasnt it the rspca that brought in the rule that all horses must be sedated to float their teeth, cant de horn without vet now etc?
  23. Well, we are going to fence off the trees i think is causing the problem-i tested myself yesterday ,i rubbed the green leaves over my inner forearm, not much of a reaction. But then i rubbed the dried needles on the ground over the other arm-and within a few minutes-stinging red spots, the ends of the dried"leaf" have a sharp needle point on each one. Cant pull them out unfortunately as its a rental property-the dogs all lay there even though there is shade elsewhere and it is about 3 inches thick with dropped leaves. Other possibility may be mites?? from the chicken stuff they spread everywhere-dont really know anything about them ,only that they have been scratching since they spread the stuff 2 weeks ago-and yes,i have had my own chooks here since we moved in,so they have been exposed to chickens for over 12 mths. Polarimine has not helped,so they are off the vets .
  24. I'm holding one to go o/s,another one because they had holidays planned(she was supposed to be picked up straight AFTER xmas though) and kelpiepupsmum's one,but all were pre arranged so i am fine with it. I havent charged board, but if it was a last minute thing for a, to me,not good reason, then yes,i would charge them. I did that foR one 5 years ago that went to NZ,they had paid the deposit, and then when 12 weeks hit and i was asking them to make arrangements to finalise payment, flights etc, informed me they had to completely re-fence the whole place, she was pregnant etc,so could i hold her longer.I did,but charged them $5 day for the 2 mths extra ,she was over 6 mths when she went.
  25. Learn to enjoy going to the shows this year with Edward and stick to my diet so i fit back into my show clothes
