'LIFE COACH" for dogs,no more pack structure with the human at the top-can see there will be a lot of out of control dogs soon enough,happened with kids when parents lost rights to disipline,only positive re-inforcement . What the hell ever happened to common sense? As much as i love my dogs,that is what they will remain as-DOGS,not fur kids,babies or any other thing. Humanising dogs is not the way to go and leads to other problems.

Have never seen the neighbours since,they sort of hide whenever they see me coming! At least your kids never went to school and told the other kids for show and tell, what their mum had been doing in the morning.

I have had both types ,the overly horny one(he was allowed to run with the bitches to a certain point)who ate through a door to get the girl,to Bono,who was a more patient lover :p Low libido can be a problem with this breed,i have an english book saying that mating bloodhounds is a 3 person event,1 for the bitch,1 for the stud and the other to make a pot of tea as it is so stressful!!!! I was told once that i shouldnt use a dog with a high sex drive? Would rather that than one who cant do it by himself. I wont use one that cant mate naturally-helping out the first time is different,i get all of mine used to being "fondled" in case i want to AI or have them collected,makes the job a lot easier. Will never forget when we moved here,i needed to collect Bono for a semen test,and he was most comfortable at the front gate,as was the bitch,so i collected him in my boxers/tank top(early morning),only to look up to find my new neighbours looking at me like i was deranged

I bought a beautiful amstaff pup a bit before i got back into bloodhounds,and he was stolen by a 15 yr old.I caught him hanging around looking over the 6 ft fence a few days in a row,had a bit of a chat to him about dogs in general,he asked me how much i paid,where i got him from,so i told him to save up,gave him a breeders name,said he could come over and visit etc. I knew what he was up to,and sure enough,few days later came home to no dog,a hole had been dug from the outside and the pup pulled through.Luckily i had gotten his name,and my kids knew where he lived,so i got the police straight up there.Told them a man walking past had given him the pup as he couldnt sell it Little shit,i did feel a bit sorry for him,feral family etc.

HE is 20 kgs at the moment - adult weight for males is 40 - 50 kgs - so he will double it at least ;) Really wow I thought males would be more like 60kgs, there ya go learn something every day ;) ETA: Still a massive dog :p Just the way I like em ;) Hi Cassie-his dad was 65 kg in lean condition,his mum is 48 kgs,so i think kelpiehoundmum might be in for a shock

Ask Kelpiehoundmum how much i was stressing over her pup He was the first liver/tan boy born (like his dad) and has his dads same beautiful temp-made it easy to choose which pup was headed to SA.He was my partners favourite pup also. I think he wakes at 5 am because thats what time their first feed normally was sorry kelpiehoundmum !!

Tetanus anti toxins are also produced from horses,are they not ,so no more shots for people that cut themselves.No more ant venene for snake bit dogs,cats or humans either.

I used to feed the minced frames from leonards,but we dont have one here.I like the fat/bone content in it and my dogs always looked well.They also get roo tails,flaps,whole frames,veggies,fish and eggs mixed with their raw mince. But i would not cook it,esp if it has bone content.

Oh,forgot to add,i bred 3 litters this year( total24 puppies,most went to people that have been waiting 12 mths -2yrs).I wanted to pick 2 to trail,1 as a back up for the other,or if one didnt turn out(which happened).Ialso wanted to get 1 or 2 in the ring,and you cant always have the one with show dog looks that can go in the ring in the morning and trail that afternoon.I wanted a specific purpose for those dogs. I have 2 to show now from one litter,one is going o/s specifically for trailing,one has gone to another breeder for trailing and i will also be doing endurance with my trailer when he is old enough. I had literally hundreds of enquiries with minimal advertising for these litters(one or two adds months before i planned the litters) so i was able to pick and choose owners,advise others why the breed wasnt for them etc and i have done it before where i have held pups for a long time until a suitable owner is there,so i would have done that again. So does that make me a puppy farmer? i spend hours and hours with my pups,4 am starts when i am working,finishing most often around 9 at night,they are out of the whelping box at 3 weeks ,they are brought inside regularly,exposed to lawnmowers/chainsaws,cars,people,and i will do basic lead training with ones here past 8 weeks. I have a friend with one of mine (11 mth old desexed male) who is having trouble now with him as he is going through that lovely teenage stage,he has forgotten how to lead nicely etc,so i am driving 300 kms round trip once a week for a few weeks to do one on one training. But i must be a puppy farmer right,as i havent been in the show ring for the last 3 years and have produced a large number of pups(according to some on here?)

I had 2 litters together totalling 26 pups 3 years ago,and i would have had 21 this time except we lost 1/2 a litter. It is a huge amount of time/money involved-it comes back to one thing-ROUTINE/ORGANISATION. I also have 4 children and worked as well,it can be done.

I need to buy an airline approved crate big enough for a 14 week old bloodhound pup to fly to NZ. Normally i just go through Dogtainers,but the owner doesnt want to as it is nearly $1000 more than doing it herself. Where would the best place be to buy one,she isnt fussed if it is second hand. thanks

same stuff they use for human scabies?? one of the kids brought that nasty home from school years ago,had to paint us in it from head to foot,doesnt smell that bad ,just a yucky feeling when dried.

ascabiol is the worst stuff,it is only me and my daughter who are affected with the itch,we have the most to do with the dogs. We do see a few foxes here,and often here them yipping at night,must be pretty hard on them with all those chooks locked up I normally start walking them through the big paddock as soon as the wheat is baled,this was the same time as the dead chooks/poo was spread,foxes would have thought all their xmas's had come at once.

most of the meat you eat is from feed lot beef,they dont roam around in nice grassy paddocks either,neither do the pigs where your bacon,porks and salamis come from.Most pet rabbits/guinea pigs are kept in small hutches,is that really any different? In fact ,these rabbits would be very expensive to keep,breed and would be quite valuable,so i would imagine that all efforts would be taken to look after them well(with or without grass)

Allergies can not be cured with herbal/homeopathy or any other 'complimentary' treatment, these treatments however can be of a great asset to manage symptoms as can western non-steroid treatments as well as steroids if it does come to that. Allergies are genetic and can not be cured, they can only be managed. Hair Analysis via hands over the hair and getting energy readings? *shakes head* Perhaps that $ is better spent at the Dermatologist... Allergic skin disease is a serious condition and needs to be addressed in an appropriate manner.....with a qualified Dermatologist before the owner starts to use Cortisone. Hi SAS, sorry,not sure i agree with you that all allergies are strictly genetic-i have 8 itchy dogs here at the moment and we are scratching(literally) our heads trying to work out the cause.Happened same time last year,th ekids chi was also affected and did not resolve with washes etc,only cortisone. Only thing i am seeing similarities is that they have all been laying under a big shady Thuja tree( type of conifer) and the itching is confined to contact area ie brisket and esp the elbows.If it was genetic then why is the kids chi affected as well?All of us have developed severe hayfever as well(2 of us had it mild before). Only happenes at this time of year,and 2 of the affected dogs now(rest are the pups born here) never had a problem at the old house,nor did Bono,he was affected this year too(before he died).Also ,we are surrounded by a big wheat field that has just been harvested and the owner uses a mix of the deadchooks,chook poo ,strw etc from his chicken farm on the field-same time last year,so may be connected to that ???? An update on my itchy dogs. Cause found to be SARCOPTIC MANGE from the chook stuff.Vets used revolution and a short course of cortisone,within a couple of days the scratching is negligible(wernt started on cortisone for a few days after revolution as i was on holidays). So 2 consecutive treatments should be all good.

So whats next- no more cow,goat milk because "they are only seen as units of production" ?? I do not agree with animal testing on things like makeups,or vivisection ,but if a genetically engineered rabbit can help save someone by a simple process of milking(which is not cruel),i cant see the problem-its not like the animal is being killed,or living in horrendous pain and conditions.

Hi Kelpiehoundmum Just got back from Sydney and seen Earl on here,he looks relaxed! Edward thinks its great he is gone,because now he is eating Earls share as well,the bloody big guts.He was actually my partners favourite from the litter,he would come up on those really hot days for a hose down from him. Excellent post Stormie,I have heard similar things and been on the receiving end of You are just a dog breeder and know nothing from new vets,but the grads i worked for were awesome,she was willing to listen to people that had a bit of knowledge,and indeed came to me for help when she had newborn animals that needed hand raising etc. She would spend hours pouring through books,ringing around if she was unsure of something and was fanatic about fat dogs or naughty /unsocialised dogs,she would draw herself up to her full 5 feet high and let them have it. Some i have seen though have absolutely NO animal handling skills at all. One my sister knows of is the one who was on work experience at a gov facility heavily featuring dogs,and when asked why she wanted to work there her response was "because it is high paying and i dont have to touch the dirty things".LOVELY.

I use a stable fork because it is like picking up poo at Jurassic park here They are great,long handled and with a wide scoop,perfect for those tricky long kikuyu grass turds. I used to pick up horse crap for a living on a big stud-5 tonnes a day with one of those,and had to unload it again by hand too-had arms like Popeye (not so attractive in a girl!!)
