So far i am getting very favourable comments about Bella,despite being an unpopular colour both from show people,other breeders and 2 judges.Which is why i made the decision to send her off to proffessional show people for 12 months,as much as i'd like to show her,i cant really do her justice. She heads off on wednesday to victoria,and will be shown again in 2 weeks i think.If she doesnt work out she will head straight back here.

I introduce my guys one at a time,brothers/sisters,mums etc,then they are allowed to play en masse.I do not like having people interacting with pups with the mother their also,some bitches will get very protective of their babies,and rightly so. I will supervise closely ,but if i feel the mother is becoming stressed,i will explain that it is better to put her away for a while so they can play with the puppies without her becoming too agitated. The well being of both mother and pups comes before people needing to see the "bond" between them,but at the same time i would be wary of people just bringing them out of a shed and quickly putting them back in.or not introducing people to the mother/sire etc at all.

But isn't she a vet herself? Why would she need the services of another vet? Or do I have her confused with someone else? there is another biggish p/f there,she doesnt use Kate for vet services as she doesnt do any vet work there as far as i am aware.

Is this vet (kate?) from condobolin-i thought someone said on here that she was.I am going over to see my vets tomorrow and will ask about her. There are a few puppy farms around that area unfortunately,there is definately another one at condo,as she was bringing her dogs to my vets.One of the male "studs" was sick,but she only wanted to spend maximum $500,the only reason she spent that was because the vets argued he deserved it,poor bugger.

A bitch,she is 2yrs.Parents are hip/elbow scored,dont know about the rest,she will be getting all her tests done when out of quarantine. Hopefully there is a very nice imported stud(semen) she will be going to a bit later.

My "pet" show bloodhound,who was shown once but will be going again this year.These are the show dogs that arent suitable for pets right? They have more socialisation right from birth,than a dog who has a quick pat once a day when fed-if its lucky.How the hell does that make it a better "pet" for a family. All of my dogs are pets first,show,trail etc way down the list,as are most registered breeders.

Had a great time today at Crookwell with the bloodhound pair-they behaved better than i hoped.Mainly they wanted to just sleep. Awful weather,next time i will take a tent,but the people were friendly,judge was really nice with me and my daughters very apparent lack of handling skills,and we were given some great advice from some experienced showies. No bitchiness at all :D And Bella beat Edward for BOB,I wasnt going to show him as he hurt himself the other day,but has appeared fine for the last 2,so in he went. Our stacking is still crap,but getting better,and the pups were very well behaved,they didnt even slobber on the judge.They got to meet some beautiful dogs from other breeds,were patted and played with. Great day

I thought she said she did. I could be wrong though .... So they have actual certificates from a certified opthamologist then? Not just a quick look by herself? If they have the certification,at least its a very basic something,bu ti doubt it.

SORRY,but i am not selling any of my girls for the express purpose of crossbreds-i get approached often enough now :D

My view is ,there are more than a hundred breeds out there,surely there is a breed that will suit AS IT IS . I love a lot of different breeds,but they dont suit my lifestyle etc.So i dont buy that breed-pretty simple. I like the look of Arabs (horses) but again,too highly strung for me,so i stick to my appies(dont have them anymore though) and in the future i want a clydesdale,because that suits me. I fail to see why an entire breed should be changed because a few want the look of a husky with the temp of a different breed entirely.People cant always have what they want,unfortunately todays society is exactly that way inclined.

Because simply there shouldn't be a difference between show and working lines, let alone then creating a pet line!!!! a "pet line" ? It doesn't happen very often but I am speechless. Actually I am dumbfounded to think that this is even being suggested, as the future of breeding dogs, let alone "better dogs". The pets that I have, are the very dogs that step into the ring, who return home again to the house and the couch and it's being suggested that we dumb them down, calm them down, take the edge of them and make them more suitable for everyone. Oh dear lord, it's time for me to walk away. same here-my working trail dogs ARE my pet dogs,i dont have a problem with them.Dyson can be a smart arse,Millie is a raving food lunatic,Leila is simply just a sweetheart,the 2 pups both have different personalities and i love them all for it.I dont want bloodhounds in a cavalier or other lap dog suit (no offence cav owners ).I could take Bono out on a trail,come home and have him take over the lounge.

I found this to be a somewhat contradicted point of view expressed within the presentations given on the day. On one hand they are saying "desex, desex, desex" yet on the other hand they say that's not good because the effect of desexing reduces the gene pool, and to desex a dog so young means that we don't really know if we're desexing the really good dogs who could have contributed good things back to the 'line' later on. All of my pups going as pets have it made quite clear they are to be desexed by 8 mths,as the males can sometimes be a bit of a handful(like any breed) when they reach sexual maturity.If i trust the person and they wish to put it off until abit older because they have a health objection to desexing at that age,i dont have a problem with that either. If there is a nice pup ,and i trust the owner,i will ask they hold off on desexing until after 14 mths or older,so i can see if they have something that would be beneficial to the line later on.So far there is only 2 that i have done this with that have gone as LR from the last 3 litters.

Bloody Edward-dropped the kids off at school,was back 15 mins later and he is limping,suspect a bloody toe.Could absolutely kill the bugger. He will go tomorrow though,just wont be able to be shown,will just be Bella in the ring.

Most of the DD'S and crossbreds you see in the pet shops are well over $1000-you dont get to meet their parents,siblings,talk to others that may have bought some of your dogs from previous litters etc,so i cant understand the comment about paying over $1000 if you dont get to meet the parents etc???? Do petshops ,DD /crossbreeders that send everything by air/os let you meet the parents etc?

My sibe came from a byb but he's every inch a sibe, when I did start reading up on sibes it was like they were talking about my dog personally I never said the problem is the dogs, I'm saying it's a combination of less work for working dogs and a different environment they have to live in than the one they were bred for. It would take a longer time to filter through but don't you think that if someone less prepared for the extreme aspects of sibe characteristcs were to buy a sibe it would be better to offer them one which was not so challenging? Like I said before, I love my sibe and I have never regretted getting him, I may get another down the track but just because I love my boy doesn't mean I think their traits are 100% suitable for modern life and the majority of the homes they find themselves in. It's not like the dogs themselves really care how well they represent the breed standard, only humans care about that. If there are so many byb sibes in the pound,maybe it should be left STRICTLY TO RESPONSIBLE REG BREEDERS ONLY TO BREED THEM TO START WITH and for them to choose ONLY OWNERS WHO HAVE RESEARCHED THE BREED THOROUGHLY !!!!

The problem with higher drive breeds ending up in the pounds is because todays society is lazy-they want the instant cheap fix with no work involved. As others suggest-get a breed of dog suitable in the first place,or get a stuffed toy instead if everything is too hard/irritating whatever,or get a cat or something. Buyer education-i have turned away so many people because they think bloodhounds are lazy dogs that will lay on the porch all day ,dont need constant training,dont need 2 meals a day etc.Most of the "purebred" (and i use that term with a sarcastic tone) dogs in pounds are NOT bred by responsible registered breeders,so why do we have to bugger up our breeds for idiots.

It's also what makes them the breed of choice for AQIS. What makes the Beagle an attractive breed for many people is the affability deliberately bred into a dog kept and hunted in a pack. It's the fact that he IS a scent hound that give him his character. If you don't want a scenthound then don't buy one. You don't need to stuff up a breed just so any idiot can own one. Beagles are trainable. The simple fact of the matter is the many owners with "problem" beagles don't bother to. The issues with many dogs are owner created. Start by changing the owner's behaviour, not buggering up the breed. Maybe these slightly more higher drive breeds end up in the pound is because todays society is an extremely lazy one that wants an instant ,cheap fix to everything?AQIS is a tiny market if they want high scent drive maybe they can have their own lines? Lowering scent drive wouldn't exactly 'bugger up the breed', since there are many many traits which make a beagle a beagle the scent drive is only one part but it's a part which can make it more difficult for the average owner. Huskies are trainable too but that doesn't mean they magically morph into 'easier' dogs when you put a bit of training into them. Since they land in the pounds quite frequently, then for their sake I'd rather the breed was 'tweaked' since that is a far more realistic solution than the one in which humans suddenly start to be accountable and research their purchases
