I have some anti body thingy which makes it impossible for me to be immune to rubella. Ive had it a dozen times and had the needle for it over and over but everytime Im tested for my immunity to rubella I have none. Turns out 2 of my 4 daughters are the same - dont know if the 4 boys are or not because its not such a big deal for boys and they havent been tested for antibodies. I am the same too-had all my hep b course last year for SES,my titre tests when i came to do my aged care course all came back with no immunity to nearly everything.I had mumps as a kid, whooping cough, and measles several times even after 2 lots of the complete courses of vaccinations.Apparently i dont "sero-convert"??? Yet i had psoriasis a few years ago quite badly which is frm an over active immune system?? Maybe the vet meant the maternal antibodies had over ridden the vaccine for the pups.

Why do you think a Frenchie or a Boston should cost so much more than other breeds ? Personally, I fail to see why anyone would want either breed, let alone pay those sorts of prices. Of all the breeds I have observed at shows over many years, these are the two I most detest on temperament, snapping and barking at every passing dog, let alone the fact they are so incredibly ugly. Then add in possible health issues with brachy breeds and I really have no idea what the attraction is. Sorry to the people who own and love them but I just can't stand them. I think that is incredibly rude-i once had a lady ask me at a show why anyone would want to breed such hideous dogs(bloodhounds) that are ugly and apparently good for nothing. As a new showie,it sort of cut a bit.Personally i detest a lot of dogs, but i would never bag out the people that own them. And my next pet when my old show boy passes on will be a Frenchie.
-
Letting males pee on everything is not on either, but people taking their fully in season bitches into the rings prior to judging and letting them pee everywhere is also extremely rude There are plenty of areas to toilet your dog away from the rings that isnt going to cause problems, that is males OR females.
-
I dont have a problem with it as long as people are considerate, not all males will react the same way.I would just like someone, anyone,to tell me what methods can be used to make sure a male doesnt look sideways when there is a fully standing bitch around, that is destined for stud.Food never worked,or distraction. So how do you train them -these are a hunting hound breed-not renowned for their "trainability Any tips would be good in case i want to show again when i am more financial.
-
I used to get told ï should train my males out of it etc, or i should have better handling skills ,or if the dog was hard to handle with bitches in season-i should desex???? He used to whinge and get extremely fidgety, and would try to sit when the judge handled his "jewels ïf there were in season bitches around. I dont know any way to train a dog not to be interested,I am pretty sure bitches in season are not allowed to compete in obedience, and those dogs would have a higher level of control i would assume-it must obviously affect that.
-
Bloody hell,$1200 Mine were $250 each(GA) and were scored by AVA(hips and elbows)
-
i think i asked this several years ago,and no one could tell me-how does one train a high sex drive dog NOT to be interested in females????? I want my males to be able to serve naturally,i think it is a lost art in some breeds, but it can be bloody hard to show them if someone sets up right on top of you,and stands their bitch(day14) in front of you as you go in for groups. Also had one pretty staffy bitch take a real shine to Demon and kept getting away from the owner, find her way to our gazebo and present her rear end to him ,she was right on too.
-
The german shepard and jack russell next to us bark constantly, especially at night-but the owners dont hear them ;) How they dont is beyond me,but when you have to get up at 4.30 am -it is really starting to give me the willies.I know a lot of people who dont think their dog barks, they must be just used to that bark and tune it out or something!!
-
If she is going off or just in should be fine-nothing worse than people who set up on top of you with day14 bitches and dont have the manners to tell you, happened to me more than once ;)

C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
centitout replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
But thats really the whole point - if they felt it was needed why didn't they just make it a change to the COE for everyone? Why did they set a system up which made it look like they allowed members who were rotten and why did they set a system up which sees puppies being regsitered by some who may not be doing the right thing Why didnt they just tell them to bugger off , that we were all doing the right thing and if we dont they will chuck us out ? Why did they play this game? It cant be for more money. Time will tell but now its done sooner or later breeders will give in and pay the money tick the boxes or be seen to be lesser breeders.Would have been different if no one joined but looks to me like its a run away train. Its a done deal and accredited breeders are being promoted over any others even though any one who can read can still see they dont have to do anything more than they do now. Whats more they can still sell to pet shops and still breed crossbred dogs and still breed hundreds of puppies each year. Then they would all need to be transparent and screened regularly - something they seem to be dodging. You see, it's not just the application and it's components, it's the ongoing monitoring and screening which is designed to keep everyone on the straight and narrow. Those not keeping up with standards will be given the opportunity to change, and be more closely screened in the process. Those that refuse will then be dealt with accordingly. Canine control councils presently only act on (some) complaints. This is an ongoing monitoring and screening independant of personal grudges and breeder jealousy as is sometimes the case in complaints being received by CCC to date. If you've ever been involved with accreditation in the care industry, you will also know that it is taken very very seriously because passing accreditation means they can continue to operate. I see no reason why breeder accreditation should be treated any less seriously. It may well be feared by those who fully understand the process and who are not confident in maintaining it. Personally I believe that every registered breeder ought to be under an accreditation scheme. I'm actually hoping that this is a prelude to the need for accreditation, but not until we've got the unregistered breeders monitorable and answerable. Indeed the State register may well be a pathway to more people taking their breeding seriously and becoming accredited. Wouldn't that be wonderful. I have worked in several animal industries that require äccreditation",and it is a crock of $%#t.Welfare standards are blatantly ignored, covered up or paid off,the ones doing the auditing tend to turn blind eyes to everything.Animal äccreditation"is not the same as human accreditation. This will be no different-how hard is it to get 2 made up refs and a vet reference? I know of a reg poodle breeder that is a puppy farmer-she has/had 30 odd bitches,we never saw any of them at the vet clinic, only the pups for vaccinations-she also glowingly told us about all her öodle"orders she had,you can breed 2 unpapered dogs together no problem, but hey you never know, she is prbably now accredited fine to go and buy a crappy puppy off.Her dogs are brought up in a shed like livestock,no socialisation whatsoever, but the shed meets the requirements for the scheme. None of her dogs are health tested at all either, and the pups get sold to petshops Bloody glad i got out of it when i did. Anyone who has difficulty in meeting requirements and regulations would certainly view things from this point of view. Thanks-you know me and my dogs do you??How dare you.Accreditation is not the bees knees you make it out to be-i have sat in on several audits-TB'S,pigs and chickens, that is how i know accreditation is a load of bullshit, flagrant flouting of the rules, standards and some cases auditors that didnt even show up-but they passed their accreditation???? I hip/elbow scored 2 generations, and some siblings, and had also arranged to test select siblings as well when old enough, was also going to do cardiac testing(not a requirement in my breed),i showed and man trailed as well .I tried to ensure the right thing by my pups by offering $250 desexing rebates, gave all puppies exhaustive socialisation, spent whole weekends with puppy owners telling them the ins and outs. I can give you as many references as you wish,by puppy owners,i had people come to me for pups that had one of the first ones i ever bred in 1999 when i didnt have a clue,i have ones that have pups from later litters that have bought another from me.I can also give you refs from police officers, teachers where i did demos at the school and my SES unit,as well as AQUIS supervisors in the active dog section and several judges. So dont tell me i am afraid because i wouldnt meet the requirements for the breeder scheme.I would have joined the MDBA before any other as at least they have a clue and strict entry requirements .As a breeder, what do YOU offer to your breed that puts you right up in the exalted ranks of accredited breeders far above us shifty low lifes that have always done whats in their bloody scheme anyway. -

Possums A Pain In The Park For Dog Owners
centitout replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
Very true-our place in Forbes had a resident possum that the previous owners fed, when she brought her baby we made the mistake of continuing feeding-3 am in the morning her aunts, uncles ,brothers ,sisters all used to turn up for a party on our roof Unfortunately they used to sit on the roof with their tails hanging down taunting the dogs, and Demon learnt to shake them out of the tree they used to climb up. -
Òne of my owners was charged nearly $700 to desex(with no complications-very straightforward) a 7 mth old bloodhound bitch.Reason was given pre-anaesthetic check and "dissolvable sutures"?????All the other owners were charged max of $250 for same age,sex and "sutures "She was in qld too.I would shop around and even if you have to travel a little way-you will still be better off.
-
Same here,my family and any human life will always come first,as much as i love my animals and it would nearly kill me to leave them.If i was a chopper pilot,i am sorry ,but i couldnt justify loading a heap of crated animals, and then leaving people to perish ,or flying over people desperately trying to survive and not being able to help them because i was full with pets.Sorry if thats callous. I agree though that pets should be catered for at evac centres.

Finally Add sleeping to that as well!

At A Loss With My Oh Dog
centitout replied to centitout's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We also have a problem with the neighbours bloody jack russel and german shepard running up and down the fence(solid corrugated iron) barking and growling if our dogs are anywhere near it,or we are near it ,or if we walk out the back Could frustration at no t being able to get to the yapping shits of things be contributing to it.And no,we cant fence it off unfortunately ,that would be a solution to that problem but not practical unfortunately. Forgot to mention,Major doesnt fence fight with them at all surprisingly. -
At A Loss With My Oh Dog
centitout replied to centitout's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I can get time off in a few months,i would like to book him in at K9 force,we will seperate him first and go back to the absolute basics again-he will lose his jewels on monday so that may take him down a small notch too He stresses if he is away from Demon though, and screams(that staffy scream!!) so should we walk them still together or seperate? -
At A Loss With My Oh Dog
centitout replied to centitout's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
at the moment we are both working,me 2 jobs and my OH long hours,12 days at a time,so going to Sydney is out of the question as the jobs we have we cant get time off unless a leg is hanging off.He is on the same food as Demon, mainly raw with small amount of coprice dry chicken and garlic? He gets walked everyday and we have a play/obedience session with balls and a stick as well.He gets praised with pats when he does the right thing, demanding attention is ignored-thats when he will out of the blue just go up to Demon and rip into him.We can tell from his behaviour now the warning signs ie stiff legged gait, lowered head, pricked ears and stiff tail that he is about to attack and can interrupt the attack most of the time. Then 5 mins later they are sleeping together-it is only when me or the partner is home. Demon is desexed and has been very patient so far,he will have a go back as well though for which i dont blame him. And yes,i have been trying to retrain the partner,he does a few things which are making things worse, like showing Demon attention, rough play etc. When i first met the dog at 8 mths he was exactly the same,so the upheaval, new family members i dont think have made a difference. -
Hi everyone, just looking for some advice .I moved in with my partner 4 mths ago and he has a 12 month old "staffy" that he bought(BYB) when a pup.I dont have any positive experiences with "staffies",and this one is no different. He isnt the typical staffordshire bull terrier he was sold as ,he is a amstaff to all appearences. He is entire(until monday). The problem is i had to take my old boy Demon back due to the owner having a heart attack, and things werent too bad,Major and him are fine UNTIL any of us go out the back,or come back inside, then he will just go up and rip into Demon. He is the most excitable dog i have ever seen, and we have been working on training, but he is so demanding attention wise.It has escalated in the last week to where Major is showing signs of guarding David(my partner) from his 5 yr old nephew especially and other people, and the trying to provoke a fight with Demon is becoming constant. As soon as he does this he is put in the quiet area of the yard for a while,as punishment/corrections havent worked. He is getting desexed on monday, injected with MPA and i was going to put him on clomicalm as well ,but after showing signs of wanting to bite small kids if they go near me or david,i dont trust him at all,but i dont want to put him down without trying other measures first. I know seperating the dogs will solve the DA,but it is the human aggression i am concerned about-i have a zero tolerance policy for HA,I just want an honest opinion on whether this dog can be trained out of it.I dont want a dog that we are always worried in case one of my kids goes out the back,he is obsessive about moving things ie lawnmowers, kids scooters, wheelie bins etc,i get everyone to ignore him when he demands attention,he gets fed last,i use the TOT but his behaviour is getting worse. Is there anything else i can do ?

Um Isnt Showing A Desexed Bitch Wrong?
centitout replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got hammered in the suprelorin debate, but it is fine to show desexed bitches????? Way to go for double standards :p They do have an advantage in coated breeds especially and i know of several desexed bitches that are shown. -
Bronte had 18,2 died while waiting to get c-section done for the last 8,and one was laid on at 3 days old.I spent around 3 hrs a day laying paper and picking the dirty paper up ;) Her daughter that i kept from that litter had 14 in her first litter, one died a few hrs after birth.
-
Isnt he one of the big wigs of the PIAA?Doesnt he support selling puppies/kittens in petshops? I cant stand the show,i was a vet nurse too and it doesnt portray a vet clinic realistically-the over dramatisation is what gets me,shit like that happens every day in a real practise! Oh,and the constant remarks about ïnbreeding"annoy the shit out of me too-he has no idea ,honours degree or not.The vet i took a pup too to get the AQUIS stuff done before flying nearly overdosed her with ivomectin at 4 times the dose(guess who queried it )and he had an honours degree too.

Latest News On Syringomyelia In Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
centitout replied to bet hargreaves's topic in In The News
LATEST NEWS ON SYRINGOMYELIA IN CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIELS If I could answer Jed's Post, where she mentioned that the Cavalier Buying Public should not have been made aware about the Two Serious Health Problems afflicting Our Cavaliers , I think that the Folk Buying Cavaliers should be being made aware about those Problems, then it will follow on that the Question is being asked of Cavalier Breeders ,are they Health Testing and following the Cavalier Breeding Recomendations on their Cavalier Breeding Stock, and if the Cavalier Breeders are not doing this, then any-one wanting a Cavalier should go to a Cavalier Breeder who is doing this. What else can be being done at the moment.? Bet Hargreaves HOW DARE YOU MISQUOTE ME? CAN'T YOU READ? IF YOU THINK THAT IS WHAT I SAID, I THINK YOU NEED GO BACK TO GRADE 2 - AND LEARN COMPREHENSION. BUT YOU DID UNDERSTAND WHAT I WROTE. YOU ARE SIMPLY CAUSING TROUBLE AGAIN. YOU CONSTANTLY VISIT FORUMS AND LIST, MISQUOTING INFORMATION UNTIL YOU ARE BANISHED AND THEN YOU CHOOSE ANOTHER ONE. YOUR INTENTION IS TO HAVE THE GOVERNMENT BAN THE BREEDING OF CAVALIERS, AND I REALLY DO THINK YOU MAY ACHIEVE IT. It's always been too easy to sit on the sidelines and ridicule those doing the work, without contributing one iota to it. It's easy to criticise, Bet, but it is more difficult to do it - and do it right. I don't see any evidence anywhere that you have done anything good for the breed at all. All you do is try to bring it down. Incidentally, you didn't answer my post, all you did s misquote me. Not good enough, try to bring a modicom of commonsense and worthwhile information to the discussion, will you?? The "latest news" is either the old news rehashed to suit your machievellian design, or more up to date news, skewed your way. Yep, Delcara is correct, we have been around the SM mulberry bush so many times that many of us are giddy. Bottom line is that no one has much idea why SM happens, no one has much idea how to prevent it, breeders are doing all they can to provide dogs for scanning so that the way forward may be clearer - at their expense. People like Bet Hargraves sit on the sidelines, contribute nothing, but snivel and complain. Jaxxs Buddy Realistically, consider the expense. Breeders in Sydney can take advantage of the scanner which the Cavalier breeders obtained so dogs in Aus could be scanned (Please note, Bet Hargraves, feel free to contribute some funds towards the purchase of the next one? They aren't cheap, and as you seem to have so much to say, I am sure you would like to help us out here. We'd all be grateful.). However, for anyone not near Sydney, you can say min of $1500, max of $2000. Use $2000 as the figure - pretty well everyone charges about $1400, getting yourself and dog to Sydney, accommodation, blah blah. $2000. So $4000 to scan the parents. 4 pups, wait until they are 2.5 yrs, scan them, $8000. So you have coughed up $12000 just in scans. Looks good - except - if as LizT says, scans dont indicate anything. $12,000 is a lot of money to spend - and still not be able to guarantee that if you breed the parents, or the pups, they will not throw SM. You couldn't even guarantee that the pups would continue to be A past 2.5 years. And you are currently paying to have all you dogs heart scanned annually by a specialist cardiologist. You have had the patellas of the parents checked, and x rayed if your vet wasn't 100% confident with his examination. This is a minority disease in this country amongst registered cavaliers. Yes, it does crop up occasionally, but so does mega oesophagus, non hereditary heart murmurs, leukemia, and auto immune diseases which have no hereditary component. Now, Bet, you can scuttle whereever you wish, and tell everyone and anyone you like that I am against MRI-ing. Good luck to you. As this was brought to the public domain, I think it is much better if "the public" and dog owners are given correct information. jed i find this post of yours offensive and unnecessary. Jaxx'S Buddy-why would you find Jed's post offensive? As you are not a breeder, she was merely trying to outline the costs so average people may understand the costs involved. After knowing that,i can see the end of cavaliers is not far away-who on earth has that sort of money to scan repeatedly when it only gives you a guide? If it was a once off, fair enough, but to be expected to scan progeny as well-why would anyone bother breeding them. Most people have no idea of the costs involved in breeding/health testing, even i was shocked at those costs. My breed is fairly easy-hips,elbows ,eyes and if i had continued breeding was going to get cardiac clearances as well, around $1000+ for all tests together. -
Forgot to add,i even lead trained all pups before they left, and the ones that picked them up personally had demos on it! One of the things i heard from previous hound owners(not mine!) over the years was the dogs pulled the arms out of you-so i showed them how i walked 4 at a time on loose leads, and made sure my pups were taught to lead correctly before going,so that would never be an excuse for not excercising them.
