I give my 2 lambs necks - they are small enough for them to put in their mouths and the bone is soft enough for them to really crunch up but hard enough to actually do some good. If your dog is 20kg I would still be inclined to give one tablet rather than half particularly as you are treating for heartworm. Find out how much of the active ingredient is in the tablets that do up to 22kg and if it is half the amount in the up to 45kg tabs then sure, if not I would continue with 1 tablet. Its too risky to chance Heartworm IMO.

A crate will be your best friend. Both my Cavs started out in their crate beside my bed until they got the hang of things. Just put some bedding and perhaps a snuggly toy in there for her - the stuffed dog toys with the pretend heart beat would be ideal. She may cry a lot but thats to be expected as she will be in a new environment and not have her mum & dad like she is used to. The key will be perseverance and consistency. Yep, my vet and bayer rep say you can use Advocate and Advantix concurrently just like Mel said. Georgie-boy why do you say you can't? Together all at once you cant but yes, concurrently you could. Sorry my brain wasn't functioning properly last night and words were not my forte so I gave up. It would be a big outlay though and IMO better combos of products on the market.

No you can't. Why not use something like Interceptor Spectrum which is a monthly tablet that covers heartworm and gutworms and then use advantix for fleas and ticks? Daily heartworm tablets such as Dimmitrol are still available but aren't the preferred treatment option anymore due to problems if you miss even one day. You'll definately be able to find something that suits you - why not call a couple of places in the town you are moving to and see what they recommend? I had a lady in Melbourne call me for that very reason last week.

I don't think there is a hell of a lot of difference if any in this exelpet product. Maybe I just got a dud packet I dunno but I didn't find them as effective as the Capstar brand by Novartis. Just my experience & preference really.

I have found these ones are not as good - try a pet supply store if you don't want to go to a vet clinic.

You can get Capstar from any vet - its a product you can buy off the shelf. Also, if your BC has flaky skin then I would lay off some of the harsher on the skin washes like Malawash and Permethrin as you might find they are drying her skin out and causing problems. I had the same problem once with George when I used Permoxin him - he got really dried out skin and it drove him nuts. Great product - just wrong for my boy. You could try Aloveen shampoo & conditioner if you aren't already. Its an oatmeal shampoo so will soothe the skin and the conditioner is leave in so really easy to use. Best of luck!

Bear in mind that the amount of food being fed will depend on the quality of the food as well as the activity level of the dog. :D

Hi Peta! Welcome to DOL. I don't know anyone on DOL who have King Charles Spaniels but there are quite a few of us on here who own Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. I myself have 2 - a black & tan boy and a tricolour girl. There is a thread in photos. My boy has skin problems too so I feel your pain. Can be frustrating trying to understand and control them but I think we are finally getting there after trying many things. I will not put my kids on steriods or unnecessary medication so have been changing diet, environment, shampoo etc. I love the name Franklin by the way - very sweet. George is 13kg and he gets just under 3/4 cup bikkies morning & night. Millie is about 10kg (been ages since I last weighed her) and she gets just under 1/2 cup bikkies morning & night.

I use malaseb dilution as an ear cleaner too and its great. Dilution is as Rappie said - 1ml malaseb to 50mls water.

How terribly sad for all involved and connected. May they continue to rest in peace.
