They would only need antibiotics if there is a secondary infection otherwise they will be useless. George had KC in April and I simply dosed him up on Benadryl, kept an eye on him and it was gone within the week. If you dogs are well hydrated and generally seem ok in themselves aside from the coughing I would be holding off on that vet trip. Dose them up on Benadryl & keep an eye on them - the majority of KC will clear up on its own. Hope they feel better soon.

I Just Over-revolutioned!

He should be fine - those products have wide safety margins. If you are concerned though why not give Pfizer (the manufacturer) a call? They should be able to give you absolute advice - there should be a number on the box. -
God speed Sandy - may you RIP at the Rainbow Bridge. What a beautiful tribute to an obviously much loved companion. I can't stop crying. Life won't be the same but it will go on...and I am sure she will be with you always. Take care of yourself Occy.

Lambs necks. Small enough to fit in their mouths and the bone is soft enough that they can crunch!
-
My two get lambs necks as the bones are soft enough for them to crunch through.

Noice! Can I send a couple of dogs down your way for a test run??

Not drinking is not good. If she isn't drinking voluntarily by tomorrow I would have her to the vets. Fingers crossed she feels better soon.

How Long Do You Leave Uneaten Dry Food Out?
Georgie-boy replied to macka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm another who doesn't have a problem with food...but my cats & dogs get 20mins and if they haven't eaten by then, the food is put away. Like the others, as long as the food isn't mixed with anything or wet then it should be fine to keep reoffering for a while. If your puppy isn't eating a lot at one time then perhaps consider smaller portions....that way you won't have as much of a freshness issue. -

That was so cute Jules! Brought a big smile to my face. My 2 carry on like that on the rare occasions that George gets energetic and actually plays with Millie. I wish he would get energetic more often!! -

Can I Please Borrow An Expert Eye
Georgie-boy replied to Chloe'smum's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I'm certainly not an expert but I just wanted to say how lovely they all are! I particularly like number 2. -
A week or two either side is fine Blossom.

Both are safe to use on pregnant & lactating bitches.

I empty the pipette in a small line (about 2 - 3 cm) once I have parted the dogs fur and then wait about 1 min for the liquid to be absorbed. You will end up with a wet looking patch at the site of application but it does gradually disappear.

Heartgard plus is a monthly chew that does heartworm, roundworm and hookworm. It doesn't do tapeworm so you will need to worm for this separately and neither does it cover fleas so you will still need to use a flea preventative. You could also switch to Sentinel Spectrum which is a monthly beef flavoured tablet - not a chew. It does heartworm, all gut worms and has a component which sterilises the female flea to prevent them from laying eggs. I have used spot on products for years and while they do have a smell, I have never found them overpowering. Nor do I find application messy - its quite straight forward and applied correctly shouldn't create a mess at all. How is it causing a mess for you?? Just curious tis all.

You do need to insert your index finger to get the side of the gland that is on the inside. Its not a wonderful experience but once you have the knack its quite easy and saves on vet trips!
-
Its also possible that she might have had a nasty dream - dogs can empty their glands when frightened or stressed also.

To be honest - if you have a pup that comes inside and plays with the cats & kittens - I wouldn't use the Permoxin. I have used it on my dogs before who play with my cats with no ill effects but its better to be safe than sorry and it is likely that one or more of your cats might be more sensitive than others. Once the Permoxin is dry it is usually ok but then if the cats lick the dogs then they are going to ingest the Permoxin which is going to be toxic. I would simply not use it on your dogs in your situation. Use it on their bedding if that is away from your cats but I would avoid your dogs. Also as far as bombing your house goes - I think they are a waste of time & money. As I said before - I would be more inclined to have a professional come & spray. My reason is that those DIY bombs are hardly cheap and the area you want to spray is on the floor yet the spray goes UP in the air and then slowly floats down to the floor. Goodness only knows exactly how much is getting where it is supposed to. At least with a professional - they spray directly down. Does that make sense?? Good luck with it.
-
catsmother - Permoxin on dogs over 3 months of age is perfectly safe. The advantage of Permoxin over something like KO tabs is that you CAN use Permoxin on your puppy as well as the bedding and the areas that he/she lies in or frequents. If you are religiously using Capstar in conjunction with Advantage then you should be seeing a reduction in flea numbers. I would suggest that you use your Advantage fortnightly for a period to try to get on top of the flea life cycle - it roughly takes about 14days from start to finish. Rather than spread lime around I would be inclined to get a professional company out to spray your yard. Consistency & compliance are the key - so if you have other pets then you MUST be treating them for fleas also or you are going to have them reinfesting each other. Make your Permoxin up as on the packaging - 10mls to 400mls water (I use a spray bottle) and spray your pup down - avoiding the eyes/face. Its safe to use everyday if necessary. I would also spray all bedding. Be aware that this product is toxic to cats though so be careful if you do have cats. Good luck - you sound like you are on the right track - keep it up!

Yep Shaun, Water overnight is fine - just be sure to take it away from Fraser when you get up.

Which Wormer Do You Use With Advocate?
Georgie-boy replied to Nicole...'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you're using Advocate then the Virbac Tapewormer tablets are all you need. They are very small & quite cheap. -
George has always refused the chewables but Millie used to eat them until recently so I am back to the tablets. Jillybean - the tablets come in the same sizings as the chewies, so 10kg & 35kg, and its a matter of mixing & matching until the appropriate amount for weight has been achieved.
