  1. I would choose product A. 1.Would you feel that paying 4 times as much for one over the other is justified and if so which one. ? If they are just as good as each other then no. 2.Would you choose to try the most expensive or the cheapest first ? Price has nothing to do with it for me. 3. Do you choose your dog food based on something else? I choose based on quality of ingredients and what works for MY dogs and I try to go as natural as you can get with kibble. I also want complete nutrition when buying a food - I don't want to have to add things or supplement.
  2. Just quoting what is done through our clinic, and what our vets advise our clients and I know most others up here are the same. Again though - there are so many differing views on the topic of vaccination that I would suggest consulting your own vet and making your decision from that.
  3. Puppies generally have 3 vaccinations. They begin at 6 - 8 weeks and then continue in 4 weekly intervals. E.g. If your puppy had its first vaccination at 6 weeks then the next one would be due at 10 weeks and then the last one at 14 weeks. But if puppy had their first vaccination at 8 weeks then the vaccinations fall at 12 weeks and then 16 weeks. I wouldn't stress too much about it as the vaccinations are usually the same (depending of course whether he is having C4 or C5 but thats another kettle of fish - I won't confuse you further) so he wouldn't be getting anything he shouldn't and will be perfectly safe.
  4. Thats terrible!! I just ordered a 15kg bag of EP Holisitc Lamb & Rice through Paws only and with postage etc to North Queensland - it only cost me about what you paid for out of date stock!!
  5. I just ordered a bag of Nutro for George from Paws Only (in the ad banner) and I have seen Eagle Pack at petdeli.com.au
  6. How often is she worming? Puppies need to be wormed every 2 weeks until 14 weeks then monthly until 16 weeks and then 3 monthly for life. Drontal is a good all-wormer. Make sure that puppy is getting the correct dosage for its weight. Failing that - perhaps its time for a trip to the vet.
  7. I want to shop at your Coles & Woolies then cos I have been scouring my Coles & Woolies for the flavoured junket tablets but can only find the plain!
  8. "They" remove all rear dew claws? Sorry but that doesn't wash well with me. My Millie has quite pronounced rear dew claws which I spoke to my vet at work about and her opinion was to leave them alone unless they start to cause problems which they shouldn't. If Millie had been a working dog then sure, but I would be hesitant otherwise. Sometimes dew claw removal can be an involved surgery and personally I think it unneccesary for aesthetic reasons. Millie also had pink pigmentation when she came to us at 8 weeks - it was quite a lot too, one side of her nose - and I think it was within a month, her nose went completely black. If you're noticing Baileys nose is getting more black each day then fingers crossed it continue. I too wouldn't get his nose tattooed.
  9. My George did the same thing when our puppy Millie came home. He frothed at the mouth & drooled and was really anxious around her. He eventually got over it after about 4 days and decided she was ok. Nw they get along like a house on fire. I guess the most important thing is to let him come around in his own time. In the meantime, keep doing what you're doing by giving him attention first, feeding him first etc. Perserverance is the key.
  10. So sorry to hear of your loss. RIP Amber.
  11. So sorry for your loss lucyluv - she looks beautiful and I am sure she knows how much you love her. She'll be your special guardian angel Run free little one....
  12. Thanks - we think George is a bit spunky!! If you have a look in the photo section - I have posted some pics of our 4 month old girl Millie. You can follow Bailey and give his command to go but only if he is doing his business. Otherwise just let him be and give him heaps of praise for going. I wouldn't block his access or you might find you start having problems and accidents. He sounds just lovely and quite well adjusted. Hope we get to see lots more piccies
  13. Congrats on your new baby Vanessa - he's just a bit cute! My 2 Cavs have both been on Eukanuba and enjoyed it, without any problems. I have my 4 month old puppy on Hills puppy at the moment but thats because the rep gave me a massive bag free George my older Cav is on a restriced calorie diet as he was a little chubby - he's not now. So in answer to your question - Eukanuba is a great food to have him on. As was suggested, I would prob wait until after Baileys tummy has settled before introducing raw bones and then it would be as a meal replacement. Crate training is a great idea - I would never give a puppy access to a room unsupervised. Personally, I have only crated during the night but I know others who have done it more often - maybe one of them can shed some more light on that. Toilet training outside should IMO always have you there. When he goes outside at all - you should know where he is cos little puppies can get into heaps of mischief. Something I was told which has stuck with me is don't let your puppy do anything you wouldn't let a toddler do. Generally you'll find you can probably tell when he needs to go - go out with him, take him to your designated toilet spot and say the command. Take him out even if you're not sure - its not going to hurt. Hope thats helped a little. Hope you have the best time with Bailey.
  14. Normally its 2 weeks after their final vaccination, whenever that might be. Its just not worth the risk otherwise. ;)
  15. Yep - George is 2 and it wasn't until he was about 12 months that he really started cocking his leg. Having said that - sometimes he doesn't lift his leg at all. Its an individual thing - main thing is that your boy is managing to urinate.
  16. The larger dosage would only affect them if you gave a 4kg dog a dosage designed for say a 30kg dog. Most of the spot on smaller dosages are in the range 4 - 11kgs and as such is perfectly safe to use on a borderline 4kg dog. Like I said, if you aren't sure consult your vet. Unfortunately in my personal experience, what pet shop assistants tell you isn't always entirely correct. You could always call the support line for the specific product as well, there is usually a toll free number on the side or back of the box.
  17. I tapeworm my cats using milbemax as necessary. They get the spyometra tapeworm from eating geckos - the flea prevention takes care of the flea tapeworm. My dogs don't get tapewormed as they don't eat offal which is where the hydatid tapeworm comes from - again their flea prevention takes care of the flea tapeworm. Yes - you can give them the 1/2 tablet which equates to a 5kg dosage or you are able to give them the full 10kg tablet without any harm. It would depend on how close to the 5kg mark the dog would be - IMO, it is better to over worm than under worm - within reason of course. As for the spot ons - I recommend that people whose animals are on the line between dosage sizes go up a size. E.g using you example, for a 4kg dog I would use the 4 - 10kg spot on rather than the 0 - 4kg. Reason being that even a few grams over and the effects can be reduced. If you are unsure though, always consult your vet.
  18. George gets Advantix monthly, drontal chewies every 3 months and the Proheart heartworm injection every 12 months. At the moment Millie is on Advantix, Interceptor Spectrum and drontal puppy tabs but she will be getting the heartworm injection too once she is old enough. I use advocate on all my cats.
  19. Millie my second Cav is about 11 weeks old now and we started training her almost straight away. She is crate trained and toilet trained and I do VERY short "come" & "sit" training sessions with her - she's so little that thats about all she can cope with at the moment but as she gets bigger, we will progress the commands to come in line with George's. I am reward training her like I reward trained George. Yes, Cav's can be prone to weight gain but no more than any other breed that is over fed! They are very clever little dogs who tend to know a whole lot more than they let on and they do know how to wrap you around their paw! I hope your wait is short!!
  20. It shouldn't if used correctly. I have also found that a malaseb dilution works the best for smelly ears, I have given up on any other kind of ear cleaner. I use a 1ml to 50mls water dilution and syringe it directly into the ears. Make sure you syringe the solution in heaps of times and then give the base of the ear a good massage. Rinse the ears out with water afterwards though. I syringe that in also and keep going until the water runs clean. Then give the inside of the ears a good wipe out with cotton wool. You are able to use ear drops after this treatment - I have surolan which I use from time to time - but prob best to call your vets and double check that what they have given you will be ok. Also, try to keep the hair on the inside of the ear, especially closest to the canal, clipped back as far as you can. This will allow the ear to "breathe" and make it easier to keep clean. Good luck - I understand how frustrating this can be.
  21. Yes their prices do sound a little unreasonable IMO. I would definately shop around - no you're not being lazy but why settle for that when you might do so much better??. You are entitled to request a copy of your animals history to take to a new vet - or have your new vet call the old one to request they fax the history to them for you.
  22. At our clinic our "standard" castrations and speys all include IV fluids and pain meds during and after. Off the top of my head I think our castration price is aroung $138. Its a much nicer experience for the animal to have pain relief and fluids - I know I wouldn't want my bits taken out then to be told go home with no pain relief - OW! But then again as has been said it is personal choice and what you can afford. The pre-anaesthetic blood test is very worth it in my opinion and we charge $80 on top of the castration fee to perform it. Yes, we have had animals come for surgery, had the pre-anaesthethic blood test and had problems found. The majority of the tests come back fine but personally I just wouldn't want to take that risk - George has a test every time even if it is just to have his teeth cleaned - he's my baby. Have you thought about maybe shopping around to find out what other clinics in your area offer and for what cost?
  23. We offer pre-anaesthetic blood tests and it is always offered as an optional and the procedure and cost explained. It is never about trying to get more money from our clients but rather helping them to make an informed decision. I mean, what if something did go wrong and could have been prevented with one test? The client would, quite rightly, feel that we had been negligent in not giving them that option. DennisV - it all comes down to what you as an individual think is going to be best for both yourself and your dog. And I might add that I hope you don't make your final decision based on the fact your friends dog was ok - like humans, every animal reacts to drugs and anaesthetics differently. Best of luck
  24. Beautiful poem. What a handsome boy and what a wonderful life he had being loved and cared for so very much. RIP Diesel.
