Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings
AWDRI replied to AWDRI's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Every one of us is a volunteer and as such processes are always open to scrutiny and review. This particular instance was caused by a volunteer being given only the impound number of the dog she was collecting and the breed mix which was kelpie x. Both dogs listed as PCC216 had this impound number and breed mix so there was no reason for her to suspect she was given the wrong dog. From looking at the DOL pictures and the HP website, my guess would be the dog was actually PCC197 and according to pound rounds social networking site he is safe with AWDRI ;) You are incorrect. PCC197 was a red/chocolate BC x Kelpie and in no way resembled either of these dogs. PCC197 was collected by AWDRI and is safe with our organisation. The dog shown in the photos attached and listed as PCC216 is not recognised by pound staff at all. From looking at the DOL pictures and the HP website, my guess would be the dog was actually PCC197 and according to pound rounds social networking site he is safe with AWDRI ;) So it all becomes clearer now. Pathetic. And from what pedestal do you stand and call us pathetic? Get your facts right before you start throwing stones. DOL from a rescue perspective is obsolete and despite the hours of manpower put in by the volunteers who update the threads here (and we do recognise and acknowledge that fact) it is being replaced by social networking and hence for whatever reason is no longer a reliable source. Rescue is filled with enough infighting and bitching and backstabbing without it being done on yet another forum so AWDRI is out of here. -
Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings
AWDRI replied to AWDRI's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Let me give you an example of the result of your listings from last week. You had 2 dogs listed with impound number PCC216, each a working breed, which we rescue, but each polar opposites in age, health and appearance. We put a hold on "Kenny" aka PCC216 and a volunteer collected him yesterday and took him to the vet. Upon being called by the vet and told that he was around 9-10 years of age and in ill health with severe skin problems, ear problems, cauliflower ears and terribly arthritic hips and hence severe pain he was euthanased as he had very poor quality of life. Upon following up with the pound it appears that the dog we thought we were getting wasn't even on any urgent list and certainly didn't have the impound number of PCC216 so we still don't know who that dog is or whether he needs our help. In the meantime because of relying on this thread we have incurred hundreds of dollars in vet bills for a poor boy who is now at peace that we can not only ill afford but which we should not have had to wear. I certainly don't regret giving this boy his wings as he was not happy at all with the pain he was in but I am angry that the resource that every rescue group relies on (the DOL threads) should have been so wrong as to cause us to end up with the wrong dog in the first place. If you wonder why people become disillusioned with DOL this is one of the (many) reasons why. -
Absolutely Janey!! Without every link in the rescue chain he would not be where he is now. In addition to those you mentioned we have to thank Pets2U for transporting him to Victoria and Berry Street Vet who did his initial vetting then sorted out his infected suture line. Rescue is never about one person giving a dog a new life, many unseen heroes go into the process, so thank you for naming them here. Di

Hawkesbury Urgent Pound Listings

Thanks Anna, good point! -
Can I just raise an issue with the way the Hawkesbury pound listings are being done now? With it just being a photo with the impound number within the image and no mention of the Impound number as text it is impossible for anyone to do a search for a listing unless someone has specifically posted in the thread quoting the number. To find a previously listed dog we have to manually scroll through every thread and post to see what happened to the dog or even what it looked like. This makes it very difficult for sites such as ours which post the dogs to find out their status/fate so we can update/remove their listings on our site. I don't know if anyone else finds it difficult but thought I would put my 2cents out there to see if the people who list the dogs could at least write the impound number above the photo. Thanks for listening.

Thanks so much Mel, Tracey, Bill's owner, is a foster carer for us (currently has a white kelpie under AWDRI in foster care) and we were really chuffed that she chose to wear the shirt on the segment. We sat here and watched it too. They cut out the bit where she spoke about Bill being a rescue (not one of ours though) which was a shame but it was great exposure nonetheless.

Congratulations to all the winners! All of us with AWDRI had a fabulous night and I was absolutely blown away to have won my category and can't thank MDBA enough for holding these awards and giving recognition and encouragement to all within the doggy related industries involved. Thank you so much.

Hey all, We have a few dogs in boarding on the southside of Brisbane that we would like to get brought along to our Doggy Day Out at Kalinga Park in Clayfield on Sunday (event details at the bottom of this post). We just don't have enough hands to do it. The following 3 dogs are gorgeous natured and friendly with both people and dogs and we would love to get them there to get the exposure they need and as a well needed outing from the boarding kennels. Can anyone help and come along and have a fun outing on Sunday? Bear Tiger Bandit Event details below

Gazebo Loan Required For Our Awdri Doggy Day Out

3x3m minimum but a longer one would be handy if it's raining and the photographer has to be undercover. -
Hey everyone, is there anyone in the Brisbane area who can lend us a gazebo preferably with one side at least that we can use for our photo sessions or cake stall on Sunday? This is our event and everyone in Brisbane is invited along. Please PM me or email [email protected] if you can help us out. Thanks so much.

Aussie Bulldog In Urgent Need In Cairns
AWDRI replied to Winterpaws's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great stuff. I'm popping over to YAPS tomorrow to photograph a blue female ACD they want help with rehoming so I will give him a cuddle for you. Do you need any good photos of him? If so I can snap some off when I am there. -
Aussie Bulldog In Urgent Need In Cairns
AWDRI replied to Winterpaws's topic in General Dog Discussion
YAPS is in Cairns where I live and that is where we are currently boarding Rusty, a red male ACD. If I can help in any way please let me know. PM me if you need him picked up from the pound or anything else. -
We got Gabrielle out of HP on Friday but she deteriorated in her health significantly over the weekend. We first took her to one vet to get vaccinated and he refused to do so on the basis of her poor condition (underweight and tumours all along her mammary chain), giving her a poor prognosis. After discussing this with Linda who was temp caring her, and Nic, we arranged for her to go for a second opinion and chest xray to determine if there were any secondaries. When she developed liquid diarrhoea and vomiting overnight we suspected the worst and the xray confirmed she had tumours in her abdomen and lungs as well. We gave Gabrielle her wings as she had suffered enough. The people who allowed her to get to this condition and end up in the pound should be ashamed of themselves but we doubt they would give her a second thought. I cried many tears over this lovely girl and her fate but she is at peace now and no longer in pain. Thank you so much Linda and Nic. I couldn't have gotten through this without you both. I know she was in loving hands at the end. Run free over the bridge gorgeous girl.

Hi there, my in laws have an elderly male that is diabetic and with Cushings disease who requires insulin injections as well as other medication and close monitoring. The dog is about 13 years of age. What I am looking for is anyone able to provide respite care for a health challenged dog to allow my in laws time to go away while knowing their little man is being well looked after. Does anyone know who we can contact about this? Thanks so much.

Thanks! I've emailed a couple of breeders, one of whom says he could be from their lines but they can't take him back. The other I've not heard from. I've emailed the state kennel club reps too with his chip # and DOB and they have no record of him. It's looking likely that he'll be desexed and rehomed as a pet. Nice pet hey?

This is Rex, born 06/03/06. From all appearances he looks to be a registered pure bred ACD. He is microchipped but was an owner surrender at Albury Pound. If anyone recognises him or knows who his breeder might be could you please PM me me so I can contact them? I want to make sure that we have tried everything to return him to his breeder before we neuter him and rehome him. Thanks in advance.

k9, I hadn't had a chance to read this before now but wanted to add some bentley glows to the other prayers for this little one's recovery. Anyone who doesn't know what a bentley is, it's the white blaze on top of the cattle dog's head and whenever we ACD ppl invoke prayers we call it lighting bentleys or sending bentley glows. It's also a nice thing to say if you are not religous. The poor little tacker is just skin and bones isn't he? I so hope he improves enough to go home and be spoiled rotten soon!

If anyone can fit an ACD in for the trip to Bathurst could you please contact me via PM or reply here? He's currently in Albury pound on hold and I need to let the pound know when I can get him out. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=190576 Thanks so much! Di
