Dog Anxiety After Boarding And Training
panda replied to panda's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thank you to all of you for your opinions and advice. I posted my request for help on Friday night. On Saturday morning, I went out in the yard, and saw my dog had vomitted. I had a look to see what he had brought up, and it looked like some kind of root. I guess it acted as a drug in his system. His eyes did look a bit red when he came back. There is certainly nothing like this root in our yard, so he must have come across it just before he came home. Since he vomitted, my dog has been his usual happy, loving self. He is completely back to normal, besides picking up kennel cough. I called the kennel about the lead pulling, and they are going to send over a trainer to help us with this problem. I can't tell you how happy we are to have our dog back. Once again, thank you for your responses. -
Since my dog, Panda came back from one month of boarding and training,he has not been able to settle down at all. Since Thursday evening, 19th Jan, Panda has walked up the down the house and has been in a constant state of anxiety. All day long, he is running from one end of the house to the other, and is on a state of alert all the time. Every little noise makes him nervous. Last night, I heard him walking and running around the house throughout the night. He jumps to every sound that is made in the house no matter how quiet the noise is. During the day, he hasn't had a rest at all. This is something he has never done before. Another type of strange behaviour is every time we try to stroke him, he walks off. When he first sees us, he jumps up all over us, but doesn't want us to stroke him. He now gulps down his food as fast as possible. Even when he eats he is nervous and runs back and forth eating his food. He simply can't relax at any time, no matter what he is doing. On Friday evening, we took him for a walk, and we passed a home that had a dog and it began to bark. As soon as Panda heard this, he tried to bolt away from the residence as quickly as possible. He has been pulling on the lead harder than before. Training should have eradicated this kind of behaviour. The dog that came back to us is totally different from the one we said goodby to in December. he is not as playful or affectionate as he was. Does anyone have any idea what might have caused such as difference in his behaviour or do you of a professional in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney that maybe able to help our dog get over this problem? We will not send him away again. It is so upsetting to see him like this. Thank you for your help. from nervous dog and stressed owner

Obedience Clubs...advise/opinions?...
panda replied to ReXy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks Erny, Hanrob is quite a long way from where we are. We are in Bondi. I have to look for something in the Eastern Suburb area. Is the dog club the same thing as obedience classes? -

Anyone Else Give Their Dog Greenies?
panda replied to greentea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I buy them in bulk as well Greentea. I've stopped giving it to him since I've read this article and vdo http://www.kirotv.com/money/5325021/detail...1/detail.html... -
Hi lillysmum, I feed my dog California Natural and Eagle Pack Holistic. I put him on Evo for a week but he kept having runny stool with mucus. I bought a bag of Innova last week to replace CN. I see you mentioned Solid Gold, is it available in Australia? I'm in Sydney, do you have information where to get it? But I'd stick with Innova and EP Holistic anyway. Thanks

Anyone Else Give Their Dog Greenies?
panda replied to greentea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes, I used to give my dog a few greenies a week. But up till last week I saw that same website you posted about how dangerous they can be to dogs. I still got 15 of greenies left as I bought them in a big bag. Anyway, after having seen the VDO on the website, I don't want to risk it . So, no more greenies. My dog was pooping out green colour as well. I'm glad I found DOL forum, I have learnt a lot from it. -
Do you know where I can get Japanese Spitz book written by Marco Pascino from in Sydney, and how much does it cost?
-
Hi Slvaangel, I just showed your website to my husband, and straight away he said he knew of your kennel as he had emailed you in the past. In fact, he told me he had e-mailed you a picture of our JS, Panda. He remembered you had said Panda was cute. I am very interested in the four different types of Spitz. Where would we be able to get information to compare the four types? I have been to quite a few sites, but I have never seen any comparisons of the four types. By the way, your dogs are gorgeous. I wish you were located in Sydney as we are thinking of getting another JS when we return from overseas in January. Panda's mum

Hi Slvaangel, Thank you very much for the information. It's much appreciated. Kind regards, Panda

Oh god, dose that mean my JP is too big? 13kg, 15 1/2 height. I bought him from Pets Paradise, Westfield, Bondi Junction. I think he was sent from Victoria. Wow! you have 5 jp. I'd love a couple more. Did you buy all of them from a breeder and are they from the same litter? They are lovely dogs. Can you please tell me why we shouldn't walk him too much at a young age and why at short distance? Do you have a picture of your five dogs together? I'd love to see them. You can send to my e-mail if that's ok with you. Posting pictures here can be a bit small, hard to view. It's possible that we will get another puppy next year when we come back from overseas. I regret it now that we didn't get his brother at the same time. Be interesting to know if his brother is about the same height and weight as Panda.
-
Thanks Slvaangel, I just measured him, he's about 15 1/2'' height. God, I didn't realise he's quite a big spitz. My husband spoke to a breeder on the phone as we were looking to buy another JP puppy. The breeder told him that usually JP are around 14'' height, 9-10kg weight. But, she said that Spitz from older blood lines can be bigger. Even over 16 inches in height. How heavy is your Spitz? I feed him California Natural and Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken and twice a week I used to give him antibiotic free eggs. I no longer give him eggs as Evo and Eagle Pack have egg. In the last few days, I've started him on Evo Innova. I'm planning to switch from California Natural to Evo instead, but still mix it with Eagle Pack. I was feeding him two cups a day but cut down to 1 1/2 cup recently. I think he gained weight quite fast from Pig's ears. I give him one a month now. We walk him twice a day, and some weekends, he goes for three walks. Maybe he's from the older bloodlines.

Hi,slvaangel and Joan, I have an 8 months old male Japanese spitz. He is 13kg. How heavy is your spitz? I think mine is big for a spitz.

Lovely Collie puppy, Daisy. The guy who I ordered my EP from in Sydney recommended Duck formula because his dogs love it. Panda is on Holistic chicken because this formula is suitable for both puppies and adults. Protein 24%, which is not too high and not too low for puppies I think. I mix EP with California Natural which has 26%. Panda is coming up to 8 month old soon. I'll get the duck next time. Did you take that picture? Great picture, good for a postcard Panda

Thanks Grey, Yeah I meant the Dick van Patten's one. That's a really good price compare to California Natural though. I think 2.5kg bag of CN is $27.99 and 9kg bag is $99.95. Eagle Pack 15kg bag is $108. Smaller bag works out a lot more though, so I got a 15kg bag. Panda will go through it eventually. I also give him antibiotic free eggs twice a week. and low fat cottage cheese. He loves carrots, apples and brocolli for afternoon snack. He has a beautiful soft coat and I'm so proud of him.

Hi Grey, Whose information did you find helpful, because I posted almost a whole page on by products, BHT /BHA and premium food? I was going to put my dog on Natural Balance, but I decided to try a mix of Eagle pack and California Natura since Panda has been on California Natural for a while now. However, I am considering a mix of Eaglepack and Natural Balance. In a few months, I'll put him back on california natural to give him some variety as he is a fussy eater. Grey, did you order natural Balance from the factory in Perth? Do you know if they deliver nationwide? How much do they charge for the large bag? Thanks, Panda

You are making the right choice on EP. Don't touch Science Diet full of fillers, by-products and preservatives which cause cancer in dogs.
-
Go to www.eaglepack.com.au and click on the appropriate State. They have distributors in each State. I bought mine from www.petdeli.com.au EP Holistic chicken 15kg bag is $108. Works out cheaper to buy a large bag.

Both Science Diet and Royal Canin contain preservatives. My puppy was on SD for a month and about one week of RC mixed with SD. But since I did a lot of research about some of the premium brands like SD and RC, I threw both bags in the bin. If you search dog food forum on SD, you'll come across a lot of negative posts about it. I'd try Eagle Pack Holistic selection for your dog. Most dogs are allergic to corn, soy..EP Holistic selections don't contain corn or soy. My puppy has beautiful coat, he gets so much attention when I take him for a walk. Your dog may have stopped itching from SD and RC because these particular selections don't contain hypoallergenic ingredients but I'm pretty sure that both of them contain preservatives. Californai Natural is great for dogs with allergies. The ingredients are very simple and contain no preservatives and no by-product. Because they use Vitamin E to preserve all of these foods, they are a much better choice for animal health. In many studies, preservatives have been linked to cancer and other canine diseases. SD contians by-products. Check this website http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/archive/i...hp/t-31690.html

Hi littlePixie, you said that your boss stock Nutro, do you work in a pet shop? I feed Eable Pack and California natural to my dog at the moment. But I'd like to switch to other super premium food from time to time. So where can you get Nutro in Sydney? What are the ingredients listed on the package? I usually read the ingredients before I buy it. Don't want to end up with lots of fillers.

Hi Feloe, which selection of EP do you feed him?I feed my Japanese Spitz EP Holistic Chicken. After having read loads of forums on dog food, EP Holistic selections have pretty good review. I mix EP with California Natural. He's been eating CN for a while but I find that his stool is a bit soft. EP helps to form well. He's been on EP for over a month now. First, he didn't like the taste much, but he's ok with it now. I'm happy with both EP and CN. Just my opinion,I like to feed him with two different brands of super premium dry food to get varieties. I used to sit up all day for weeks researching on dog food . I'm glad you started off your puppy with super premium food. EP, Innova, CN, Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance are very good food that we can get them in Australia. They don't contain preservatives like BHA/BHT which you find in most premium food. These preservatives cause cancer in dogs. Here are the things that I look for in a commercial food: -Human grade ingredientsbut I look for companies that use human grade meats (not meats that were rejected by the human food industry). For even higher quality, look for hormone and antibiotic free meats, especially those that are free range or pasture raised. - No meat by-products or digest (meal is OK). -No BHA/BHT or Ethoxyquin (preservatives) -No artificial colors, no sugars and sweeteners (such as corn syrup, sucrose, ammoniated glycyrrhizin), no propylene glycol (added to some chewy foods to keep them moist, toxic in large amounts -As few grains as possible It is better for a dog to get a variety of foods, rather than just one food for its whole life. Feeding different commercial diets can help fill in nutritional gaps that a particular food or brand might have, as well as making it less likely that your dog will develop food allergies. Rather than trying to find one "perfect" food, it would be better to find 3 or 4 different ones that your dog does well with, and alternate between them, feeding one for three months or so, then switching to another. Be sure to make the switch gradually to avoid digestive upset. I'm sure you'll be happy with EP

Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Dog Food

I tried to use Avatar settings but I kept getting error as the picture is bigger than 10kb. I used photoshop to reduce the size about 10 times but I couldn't get it any smaller than 12kb. It's so small and all I could see was just a dot. Perhaps, there's a different way in photoshop to reduce the pic to 10kb? Thanks, Panda is beautiful and we always send him to bed and kiss him good night every night. Here's a pic of him when we first got him at 8 weeks old.
