Buying Grooming Gear From The Usa
panda replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think as long as the total cost below $300 you don't have to pay duty/tax. I order goods from overseas all the time and never had to pay tax. Check with the Australian customs service Australina Customs Service -
I posted this before: Try this: Sprinkle your dog liberally with baking soda. Let it sit for a few minutes (as long as you can keep your dog still is probably long enough) and then brush out the baking soda thoroughly. This is safe for your dog’s skin, but don’t let your dog lick at it; they can not digest large quantities of baking soda. This will remove excess oil from your dog’s coat, without stripping it the way shampoos and soaps can. It will also reduce dog odour. Baking soda is an excellent deoderant for many pet odours; housetraining accidents, spraying cats, and generally for the cleaning up of all smelly things that come out of/in with pets

Umm that's interesting,Hesapandabear. Have you given your Panda ziwipeak air dried before? I wonder if it would have the same result as canned. -

Maybe my dog has a senstive stomach. He had a run when I gave him Evo a long time ago. I used to give him Eagle Pack Holistic for a while, great food though but he loves ziwipeak. I give him ziwipeak everyday now and he's like a vacuum cleaner on high speed. -

Which Ziwipeak gave your dog a runny poo, Westiefan? Was it the Cuisine or the can? I bought 6 more cans from Paddopets last weekend to give my dog a bit of variety in the morning, then the cuisine in the evening. I did notice that his poo was pretty soft with can. Looks like I'll have to stick with the cuisine alone. Oh yes he gets carrots, other vegies for treats, sardine every few mornings, dehydrated bone to clean his teeth, but his main is Ziwipeak cuisine. -
Try ZiwiPeak? It's not dry like kibble, it's more like jerky. My dog loves it.

I have just started them with some Ziwipeak sprinkled on top, just a tiny bit.. And they go nuts!

Hi Flycow, I know someone who owns a pet shop and that's where I got my ZiwiPeak from. She has a labrador who was wayyyy over weight. I know the dog as I used to go to their place a lot about a year ago. She told me that her dog lost about 9kg since he's been on Ziwipeak. ZiwiPeak has no carb or junks like some of the pet foods. She said that her lab is very healthy now and he moves around a lot more. Apparently, my son stayed at her place about two weekends ago. My son is friends with her son. When my son came home the next day he told me that I won't recognise Toby (the dog) now. He has lost so much weight and more active. I guess because ZiwiPeak has no fillers. I hope that helps.

My dog was on Eagle Pack Holistic for well over a year with firm stools and shiny coat. I was happy with it. I'm feeding him ZiwiPeak now and he just can't get enough of it each meal. I'll stick with ZiwiPeak now since he loves it so much. Every meals time is like a treat to him.

Hi, which website did you see ZiwiPeak Daily-Dog Cuisine - 5kg bag for $112.00? I only found RRP $117.95. I bought mine from a pet shop $27.95 for a 1kg bag and $117.95 for a 5kg bag. My dog worships this food. 1kg would last him one week.
-
I got mine from Paddo pets too, westiefan. I know the owner of the shop quiet well. Her son and my son went to the same school. Are you in the Eastern Suburb?

My dog has been on ziwi peak for one week now and I will certainly keep on feeding it to him. Every meal time is like treat time to him now. He just lovvvesss the food. The problem is he gobbles down too fast. I bought a 1kg bag to start with and just got a 5kg bag delivered.

I found this website located in Sydney. They carry Ziwipeak. http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/products.php?cat=7 To Gomez, did your dog have soft stools when she/he start ziwipeak? I gave Evo to my dog last year and his stools were quite messy. I guess because it has a very high protein and low fibre. Someone told me that she fed her Pug Ziwipeak and her dog had very soft stools. She did slowly mixed with old food for a couple of weeks before. I'd really like to give my dog Ziwipeak but concern about the stool. My dog is 12kg, how long do think it would take to go through a 1kg bag? Thanks

I'm going to cancell PetPlan when I return from overseas in mid Jan next year. I'm still waiting to hear from The Insurance Ombudsman. I should know the answer by the time I return. Either way, I'm going to cancell with PetPlan anyway.

The representitives will give you a better picture overall including mislead the terms and conditions. When it comes you already have a claim, they will tell you that they don't know anything, and it's not up to them to make a decision.

Not a happy client with Petplan here First of all, I agree with cavNrott. You have to read everything carefully. People who answer the phone don't see it the same way as the insurance company, they can give you the opposite information to the policy. A lot of times are misleading. Here are my experience with Petplan, and still going further. The claim I made which was denied by the Claims Team Leader. When I called to speak to her about it, she told me to contact the director of Petplan to reconsider the claim after I explained to her circumstances. As she has already denied the claim, she told me that she is unable to reverse the decision. After I made the claim, she contacted my vet’s practice. Unfortunately, she did not speak to my vet directly, which led to a misunderstanding of my dog’s condition. The assistant only read out the basic case notes to her over the phone. I contacted my vet, Sally, and she confirmed that Petplan had not contacted her directly. The misunderstanding occurred because the claim team leader thought my dog; Panda had had the clinical signs or illness since we owned him. He has had a mark on the roof of his mouth since he was a puppy and it was very small. . I can’t remember exactly when I saw the red mark on his soft palate. All I knew was when he was still a puppy. He could have been around 3 months then because I used to brush his teeth when he was a puppy, and I saw a tiny red mark, but I thought it was a birth mark, and didn’t think anything of it, plus the vets never said anything about it when we took him in for vaccinations, check ups and desexing. He’s about 19 months old now. He never had any signs of illness or abnormal behaviour due to this until the 11th July 2006, I noticed that he had trouble swallowing his food and gagging like he was feeling uncomfortable inside his mouth. We love Panda with all our hearts. There’s no way that if we knew something was wrong with him and we would ever let him suffer for several months and take the risk of something worse could have happened before seeking advice. However, on 11th July, I called the vet to tell her that Panda had started gagging and was having problems swallowing his food. I looked into panda’s mouth, and saw the mark had increased in size. I also ran the tip of my finger and felt the mass had risen up. He had the biopsy on July 13th and the result came back as being non-cancerous. It looks more like exuberant granulation tissue. As Panda had not shown any “clinical signs” or "Illness" prior to joining Petplan, I wouldn't think this would be under Petplan Policy. On Pet Plan booklet stated: Definitions: Clinical Signs means changes in the pet's normal healthy state, it's body function or behaviour Illness Signs means sickness, disease and any changes to the pet's normal healthy state, including mental and emotional disorders Section 1. “What we will not pay” Item 2. Costs resulting from an injury or illness first occurring or showing clinical signs before your pet’s cover started. Item 4. Costs resulting from an illness which is the same as an illness in any part of your pet's body that first showed clinical signs before or within 21 days of your pets cover starting. In Panda’s case, it was NOT an injury or illness first occurring before the cover. PANDA DID NOT HAVE ANY ILLNESSES RELATED TO THIS SOFT PALATE BEFORE THE COVER. I have spoken to a few girls at Petplan and explained the circumstances and to clarify the meaning of “Clinical Signs” and "Illness" and they both agreed that Panda should be covered in this case, because he had not shown any sign of illness before joining Petplan. I have also read the booklet thoroughly, and I also asked the vet about the meaning of “Clinical Signs.” She explained that clinical signs means a change of behaviour or showing sings of illness. Neither of these things happened to Panda before I took up the Petplan policy. Well, as I mentioned above, the director of Petplan knocked us back again.

I took up a cover with Petplan on May 12th this year. I'm in the 2nd process of making a complaint at the moment. I was advised by the Insurance Ombudsman Service to contact Petplan insurer regarding an unresolved matter with Pet Plan Insurance. . I believe that Pet Plan is being unfair and hasn’t looked in to this thoroughly from the beginning. The team leader of Petplan, who did not even speak to my vet, declined the claim. I sent a letter requesting to reconsider my claim to the director of Pet Plan. Five weeks after I sent the letter, I still didn’t hear a word from Pet Plan. I decided to call the director of Petplan, and finally I got hold of him. I told him briefly on the phone about my letter to him, he didn’t seem to recall much, but he did say that someone did mention something like that to him. At the time, I felt that he hadn’t even read my letter. He said that they have a vet nurse there and he will ask her to contact my vet as soon as possible. Of course a vet nurse employed by Petplan will be biased toward a favourable outcome for the insurance company. On the 16th Oct, I received a letter from the director of Petplan, dated 12-Oct-06 stating; “I therefore conclude with my staff members, that they correctly determined your claim”. In other words, he does not agree with my complaint. I just sent another letter off to Farmer's Mutual Insurance explaining the whole situation about my dog's condition and Petplan declined the claim. If they come back no good, I'm going to take it to the Insurance Ombudsman.

Heartworm Needle / Should L Get Pup Done?
panda replied to archie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dog had his heartworm injection when he was 6months old because he was going to a boarding kennel at 9 months old in December last year for one month. I didn't know any better then about how toxic it can be, and my old vet said it was ok to give to puppies from 6 months. Luckily my dog didn't have any reaction at the time. I give him monthly tablet now. Does anyone know if the injection can cause auto immune system issues 12 months later? -
Thanks for letting us know about Cortisone, Jacobite. When you said a course of cortisone, how long was it for? My vet wasn't very happy with me yesterday when I called her back that I'm not comfortable with giving my dog cortisone. My dog had a biopsy on an oral mass located on the roof in his mouth. The biopsy turned out to be Granuloma affecting soft palate, thank god it's not cancer. Anyway, the soft tissue has got a bit wider after the vet took some soft tissue out for the biopsy. I took the dog back on Sunday and the vet gave him Cortisone in the hope of reducing the size of the soft tissue without having to go for an operation. But if there is still a little tissue left after 2 weeks course of cortisone, then he still has to have operation. After reading about cortisone, I refused to give it to my dog. When I told the vet that I wanted to try natural medicine first, she sounded a bit annoyed and said that it won't work on my dog's case. The other alternative to get rid of it totally is to remove it, I think. I'm going to make an appointment to see a specialist at Sydney University. I don't know why the vet didn't take it all out at the time of biopsy. After the biopsy, she said if it doesn't reduced in size or grow bigger, then come back for an operation. Adding to that, I told the vet that cortisone only treats the symptom but doesn't cure the problem. She said it's not true. I think she's not very happy with me now because I didn't go along with her advice. On Sunday, she said that I can try Naturopathy if I don't feel comfortable with cortisone, and when I told her that yesterday that I will try natural medicine, she sounded unhappy and said it wouldn't work
