  1. Thanks shewolf & Hollys mummy for your kind thoughts. I'm very sorry for your loses too.
  2. Yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful girl, Chloe. She was the best Dalmatian, no the best, dog in the world & she has left a huge hole in our lives. To make it worse she died before her time (she had just turned 11) following complications to what should have been routine surgery. I'm so sorry Chloe. If I'd know the outcome I'd never have put you through that. RIP Clow-bow until we met again.
  3. You have done a great job! The twins must be gorgeous. I always hate to think about these poor calves, only born to die just so we can have milk to drink. At least beef calves get to live a year or 2.
  4. Jack is scared of banging doors even if it's a very soft bang. He gets very nervous when it's windy in case a door blows shut but is fine with the wind if on a walk. Hope is scared of spray cans especially the the flyspray. Chloe is a real nervous nellie in the dark.
  5. My girl was diagnosed with kidney disease 6 months ago. She wouldn't eat Hill K/D but I found that Royal Canin also make prescription diets & Sally likes their Renal dry food & is doing really well on it. In the 6 months since diagnosis she has actually put on weight & no longer seems to be bothered by the nausea she had pre-diagnosis. It costs me $35 for a 2kilo bag but is worth it I think. Can can only buy it from a vet but they have a loyality card so after buying 10 you get 1 free. I know what you are going through. It's the problem with having dogs around the same age. Two weeks ago I had 6 dogs, 5 of them older. One died suddenly, one is on borrowed time, one is sick & Sally has kidney disease (& is the healthyest, lol). to you. I hope things get better for you.
  6. I lost my Rose also today. She had a cardiac arrest around lunch time & couldn't be saved. I hope they are running free toegther at the bridge. RIP Rose 9/11/2000 - 6/6/10.
  7. OMG Poor Jed. My thoughts are with you. RIP your puppies that didn't make it. Fingers crossed that the others are alright.
  8. I agree with the op. I think in years to come our pets will be mostly companion animals & mostly small breeds (like everyone here I hope pure breeds). Already large breeds in the city & surrounds are getting less & less. It is a trend I hate but I can see it happening.
  9. Sally continues to do well on the Royal Canin Renal dry food. She seems to enjoy eating it & shows no sign of being sick or eating grass. After all these years I don't expect there won't be the occassional bouts of not eating but I'm really happy so far.
  10. I've actually had a breakthrough with Sally's eating. I've discovered that Royal Canin make presription foods also (I had thought only Hills did) so I brought a bag of the K/D & so far Sally seems to like it but it's only been a couple of days.
  11. My 11 & 1/2 year old greyhound has been diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. The vet has said she needs to be managed on a special diet & suggested Hills K/D. There are also plenty of diets on the internet for dogs with kidney disease but Sally is very fussy (has been all her life) & won't eat anything but what I currently feed her although some days she seems to be bothered by nausea because she only takes a mouthful then wants to go out to eat grass. I know the special diets will help with this but can't convince her to try it as she just gives anything different a sniff then walks away. Has anyone got any suggestions or tried any kidney food that was loved by their dog?
  12. We have a 16mth old female greyhound here. She is from an accidental mating so only spent her very early life in greyhound kennels. Since then she has been in several homes but hasn't yet found her forever home. We have taken her on to try to change that. I've only had her here a few days but it is very clear she is affraid of being in the backyard. She will refuse to go out & if you take her out she runs around in a frantic state before returning to the door desparate to get back inside. The whole time she is outside she is shaking & her tail is tucked up. She is like this when I or my dogs are with her. I have checked back into her past & it seems she has always had a phobia with the backyard but no one knows why. It was probably made worse when she was with a carer who worked full time & she was left in the yard all day even though she had the company of other dogs. In the recent past she escaped from the yard of one home & hid under the house in another because she was put out. In the house she is fine, a relaxed couch potatoe as are all greyhounds. She does have a problem with house training which is understanable when she won't go outside. She is also fine on walks so it is not the outside in general just backyards. We have tried taking her out on a lead but she is still just so frightened she won't relax to go to the toilet. She will go when in the yard during her frantic dash sometimes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  13. RIP Hapi. Thank you Olly for making his last months so happy.
