We have desexed quite a few older girls (the oldset to date has been 11years & 3 months) without any problems. It doesn't change their behavors much but they do seem to feel "better". I would recommend it because it should reduce the risk of further mammary tumours.

Home Check Carrum Downs Vic

I live near there so can probably do it. -
This thread is great! I couldn't agree more! My poor husband puts up with our 5 regular dogs plus the odd foster & all my time being taken up with running a rescue without complaint all while being sick himself. He is actually great with the new dogs because he actually spends time with them something I'm often too busy to do. My kids often grumble that I think more of the dogs (any dogs) than I do them but it is in a good natured way & they are proud of what I do. And yes a big thumbs up to my own dogs because without them being so tolerant I couldn't have fosters here ever. When I look at it like this I know that without the support I get from home I couldn't do what I do. So a big thank you!

The Greyhound Safety Net has a lovely calendar for greyhounds at www.greyhoundsafetynet.org

I am constantly appalled by the number of people that have poor fencing & pets. Most have dogs but I've also seen a couple of houses that have terrible fences & free range chooks. How they keep them safe I have no idea. My little dogs would kill chooks if they got the chance so I'm sure there must be many other dogs out there like them that could get through the broken fences. Same goes for dogs escaping. I take note & try to avoid them if possible.

+1. OMG that poor dog. -
It seems to me that people are becoming much more sensitive about dogs full stop. And yes, they have become the latest thing to complain about.

Run Free Gabby With Your Beautiful Bub Michael.

I just don't know how some people can so cruel to a living animal. It just breaks my heart. Thank you Nic B for trying to help. -
Snakes don't have ears so won't hear you coming. I once heard of one that was lying in the grass & was run over by a ride on lawn mower so I don't believe they always feel vibrations either.

" Mack " ~ Aka The Old Boy From Renbury~ Rip 19/10/11
greytpets replied to julzjc's topic in Rainbow Bridge
I second this. I never knew Mack but was so touched by him. RIP old boy. -
3 old greyhound females, 1 older male JRTx (the boss) & 1 small female bitzer (same size as the JRTx but fatter). Greyhounds are definately my preferred breed. I'll always have one, two or three oldies around.

Anyone heard how Lennox went?

I saw the news report & also thought your time was too brief. That poor black & white girl who was so terrified. Why was she on the story? She doesn't look like a pitbull or cross & clearly wasn't aggressive in any way.

There should be laws against breeding dogs with health defects. It is not fair on the pups who usually end up getting PTS.

I live in an area with a large Sudenese community & I've noticed these people (both adults & children) are terrified of dogs even small ones. I'm not defending the dog or blaming the children but if they ran screaming (as I think they might have) it would have made the dog attack worse. Sadly this will not make anyone from this community feel safer around dogs.

When my boy (JRTX) who isn't really scared of anything was 8 he developed a fear of banging doors. Now when it's windy he becomes very stressed inside & we have have to make sure all the doors & windows are closed so a door doesn't blow shut. He's not scared of the wind as he is his usual fearless self on walks in even the strongest wind. Our other small dog was terrified the other night when the smoke detector started to beep that the battery was low. I would hate to see her reaction if it went off because of a fire.

Personly I don't support the use of prong collars in any way.

We adopt out adult greyhounds who don't have any idea about playing with toys. Most do learn & love to play once they get started. I find that my other dogs teach them about toys. Since it sounds like your dog is an only dog you could try playing with him to get him started. When he is on his own in the yard try spreading his food around the yard instead of leaving it in a bowl. Also hide yummy treats so he spends his time looking for them instead of missing you. Good luck.

Gemma. My Gemma is 12 in September. Bassett's are one of the breeds I've always wanted to own.

Advice Needed (changing An Adult/adoptee Dogs Name)
greytpets replied to Kazhak's topic in General Dog Discussion
What about changing it to Cruz? It's very popular now & keeps the kru sound. -
I wonder if they are going to start using this to catch the dirty people who make a mess in public toilets?

RIP Narla. I'm so sorry for your loss but it sounds like Narla had a wonderful life with you.

I would like to see the end of greyhounds being exported to other countries for racing (read unknown fate).

I didn't see the 4 corners program but I watched the videos's on line. With 2 of the cattle they showed that they had falls before they were where they were supposed to be. One slipped & fell (& broke a leg)while still in a small holding yard & he was tortured in an attempt to get him up. The other one fell going up a ramp & also couldn't get up & he was also tortured in an attempt to get him up. Boxes & stun guns wouldn't have prevented their torture. For that reason & others I believe live export should be stopped.

I'm not opposed to spending money, I just think it should be spent here to benefit Australians. I've read several times that Indo has no refrigeration but how can their meat industry survive without it? It is not possible to slaughter that many cattle per day without refrigeration.
