  1. There is someone on here that loves to rescue Chinese Crested dogs. Does anyone know who? Could you please PM me their details or PM me direct? Thanks Heaps.
  2. I've just seen the photo of the old kelpie x impound no - 1207204 kennel 21. Absolutely heartbreaking! How can an old dog in that condition end up at a pound? Is there anyone who can get him out under "duty of care"?
  3. We, the Greyhound Safety Net, are always looking for foster carers. Yes, greyhounds are large dogs but most can be easily walked by a small female as they don't tend to pull on the lead. Our dogs are tested with a small dog before placing into foster homes. If you are interested please give me a call on 0431 747 130 to discuss further.
  4. We work on at least 6 weeks for a real change but can take up to 3 months. During this period they can actually get worse as they are going through a big hormonal change that can make them more stressed & agitated. I also have a JRTx desexed at 5mths that doesn't realise he is desexed but we usually eventually have good results with all the male greyhounds we desex.
  5. Just an update on Lucy. Sadly she was euthanized today. While she had the sweetest nature her physical problems were severe. X-rays showed she had major problems from dysplasia (?) in both her left hip & right elbow with resultant deformity & would have been in severe pain for a long time. Despite this she was just so gentle & grateful for every kindness shown to her. R.I.P. Lucy. Sorry I couldn't help you more. You were such a brave girl. I hope there is no more pain now. I'm so angry & sad to think that she was used for breeding with these problems. I pity all her pups & the people who own them.
  6. Lucy is fine with greyhounds & I'm trying to get her tested with small dogs but can't help with kids, I'm sorry to say.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to find her a rescue with foster care as she is not coping in the kennels she is currently at but it looks like AAPS might be her only chance. I've been really surprised by the lack of options for her. And I thought greyhound did it tough.
  8. I've already tried both groups with no sucess but will try the rottie thread. Thanks.
  9. I'm really trying to get her sorted in Melbourne but will keep your kind offer in mind. Thanks.
  10. Are there any rescue groups in Melbourne that will take on an older rottie girl (prefer foster care)? Apparently there is no rottie rescue in Vic & I'm really having trouble finding anyone that might help this lovely older girl. Lucy is a pure bred rottie, I'm told she is 6 or 7 years old. It looks like she has had pups in the past & from what little I can find out about her history she has been through a few homes & was originally bred in NSW (breeder unknown). She is currently living on a greyhound property (how I came across her) but needs to get out of there asap as she is not coping with being kenneled. Thanks in advance.
  11. I think most would cope if they went to a similar home. I don't think mine would cope if their next home was an outside only home as they have been used to being inside dogs. That said I have a very old girl & I've told my family if anything happened to me I'd want her PTS because I don't think she'd cope very well with such a change at her age. The younger dogs I think would adapt if the home was similar but I have met dogs (that I've rehomed) that do have a sadness about them & seem to really miss their previous owners. Tommy, for instance, was adopted by a young couple & was devoted to the husband. After the marriage broke up the husband kept Tommy for a while then returned him to us because of his changed circumstances. Despite returning to his orginal foster carer who loved him Tommy was very sad & actually became quite sick. He eventually recovered but his carer reported that everytime while out walking if he saw a young man that look like his former owner he lit up. Sadly Tommy died about a year later.
  12. Sorry I can't offer vet advice but I have a small 7 year old cross breed that has done this off & on over the years. She has been diagnosed with an ulcer & treatment does seem to improve the symptoms but they eventually return. We are currently going through another bout & treating it with maxalon & antibiotic's.
  13. I always make sure the adopters know how to contact me & if I don't hear from them I ring between the first & second week to make sure all is going well. We give adopters a 2 week trial period so I like to know how things are going be the end of that.
  14. I find it very hard to believe that all 5 dogs were involved in the attack. Did they test the wounds for saliva & match it to the DNA of the dogs? Were the dogs tested for blood residue on their coats because I'm sure there must have been some? If all 5 dogs were involved you would think there would be injuries to the arms & legs as they fought over the body. And yes, if it was such a frenzied attack then more than likely they would have turned on each other as well. If it was a few days before she was found how do we know that it wasn't hunger that caused the dog bites on a dead body? Without a proper PM how can they know that her death wasn't accidental, natural or even murder & the dogs are just the scapegoats? We haven't been told everything here or this is a case of very shoddy investigation. This sounds like propaganda to turn people off keeping multiple dogs & rescues. I feel sorry for her family & friends who might never know the real story behind her death. RIP Rebecca.
  15. RIP Maggot. Thank you Kathdogs for giving him the life he deserved.
  16. Is there a rottie rescue group in Vic, please?
  17. Thank you giving Jem Jem 2 wonderful years probably the happiest of her life. RIP Jen Jen.
  18. If the orginal assessment was so negative why wasn't he just PTS then rather than being surrendered to Renbury?
  19. The best greyhound vet in Melbourne is Sandown Vet Clinic in Springvale. It might be a long drive but is really worth it & they give discount rates to any greyhound, pet or racing.
  20. There is a livestock impounding facility in the Hawkesbury. Sadly, I don’t like their chances, poor little souls The sale yards at Mulgrave are very distressing for those who love and care for animals. I have only been there once, came home with a two day old calf who I hand raised. I refused to leave without her. She was so distressed, sick and weak, my husband had to carry her to the car as she was too weak to walk, I nursed her on my lap on the way home. Olive is now an enormous Friesian who thinks she is a dog I am sure. Good Luck. Thanks for saving Olive. The plight of poddy calves is so sad. I wouldn't have been able to leave her there either & she sounds wonderful. It must have been so rewarding to rescue her. Olive is a doll I agree the plight of poddy calves is distressing. I rescued Patrick from the knackery (he was born in the paddock and I spotted him) Mum was taken there as she had black mastitis I did everything possible to save Mum as well) spoke to numerous vets, the university etc though nothing could be done for her. So I made her a promise. Poor little tyke was only a day old. I hand raised Patrick and when old enough had him castrated and him dehorned. I was hoping to integrate him with the horses, though they fobbed him off. I went to the sales to get Patrick a companion and Miss Olive came home with us. Patrick and Olive are inseparable. I was 8 months pregnant with my third bub and sat with Olive all night long, she wore a large dog coat and began to feed early hours of the morning thank god. My Husband who is experienced with stock didn’t think she would make the night. The doggers were bidding on Olive. I had $100 to buy her, my Husband did the bidding, it reached $100, he looked at me and I stood up on the metal railing and yelled at the top of my lungs "Honey, I don’t care how high you have to go but I am NOT leaving without this calf"! ETA I hope there is some good news for the lambs and sheep, any updates? What a lovely story (except for poor Mum). Thanks for sharing.

  22. Jack is also afraid of slamming doors & is a nervous wreck on windy days in the house (in case a door blows stut). He is fine being walked in the wind. Hope is also scared of the beep from the fire alarm low battery.
  23. I remember Bonnie too. Thank you for your kindness to her & I'm so so sorry for your loss. Rest easy Bonnie.
