  1. RIP Nala. Remember her fondly and keep in mind that nothing ever truly leaves you if you keep the memories alive in your heart. x
  2. Why? Because those of us in the breed for 35 years plus gave you advice that you didn't like? Why, Because those of us who ACTUALLY WORK in rescue saw some red flags and dared to broach that with you? Yep, just great, exactly what we need - another so called 'Staffy Lover' with a 'god' complex. And your comment about 'getting a life', farcical - I happen to work as a Corporate Trainer and have my own consultancy based in Parramatta - so indeed I do have a full life as well as working in rescue. I guess that your 3 days owning a Stafford makes you an expert? Your last post is even more worrying than the first, your girl is 'performing' beautifully in true 'Staffy Style', how the hell do you know what 'Staffy Style' is? I guess when she fails to 'perform' beautifully you can then give me a call at Staffy Rescue as my offer will stand. And 'Lashton', no one is hiding behind 'fake user' names, I offered to come and get the pup if it got too much, that is hardly hiding behind a fake name. Finally, stop threatening to remove the post as you have twice now, remove it. Suck it up Princess - if you are going to own Staffords you better get accustomed to defending them!
  3. Also if the OP finds that she is not ready for this pup and it does in fact get too hard, I'll buy it from her, have my hubby collect it (so she doesn't have to deal with me) and intergrate it into my pack. This one has really got to me as I have seen it all too many times, resulting in the dog being 'put down' as having issues in the first 12 months of its life. Lashton, this is a serious offer, I am not all that far from Brookvale, if you feel it's too much, I will take pup no questions asked.
  4. I am usually very tolerant and willing to offer advice but just get so sick of new puppy owners who do no research on how to raise and toilet train a puppy BEFORE a getting one. If you don't know at least the basics of how to raise a puppy, don't get one. The OP has admitted she has never raised a puppy before but has these stupid and cruel ideas about how to do it and will not take the advice offered by many experienced dog owners on here. Anyone treating a puppy badly makes me very angry. This puppy would be far better off returned to the breeder who should also be rapped over the knuckles for selling a puppy into this situation in the first place. Totally agree dancinbcs, I understand we do not live in a perfect world but surely it would be pure common sense to research all you can BEFORE your new arrival especially if it is your first puppy. Making sure you have the "suitable" breed for you for a start. Upsets me no end because it is always the dear little pup that ends up suffering through no fault of it's own. And yes this breeder needs a wrap over the knuckles!! Just wondering why it seems a majority of the responders on here to this person who is just wanting some HELP because they are smart enough to ASK in the first place, are attacking them because they have their own ASSUMPTIONS of where they are going wrong or what they haven't done???? This person has come on here for help. They have said they are new to dogs, have done some research and bought a pup from a breeder. There is NOTHING out there to tell people that the research that you are reading IS the best way to raise a pup for a first timer other wise there would be ONE book, ONE web site, ONE way to do everything so everybody would know but...look at that, do a search on how to raise/train a pup on the net and you get pages after pages of different people opinions on how to go about it!! There are MANY web site and books that advocate MANY stupid/cruel ways to raise/train pups but what is stupid/cruel in one persons eyes isn't in another, true? As for the breeder...who knows what the breeder has told this person so you shouldn't assume that the breeder of this pup is a GOOD breeder! Any mug with a dog, a bitch and a prefix can have pups!!! The breeder might be where this person may have recieved ways of training this pup. Shouldn't a GOOD breeder give their new puppy owners ideas of training their pups?? So saying that, maybe NOT sending pup back to a person who gives out possible bad advice and giving the pups new owner advice of a good person/book/DVD or...give them good, friendly advice YOURSELF ON HERE that YOU would give someone who YOU sold a pup too or advice that you have been given just might be an idea, and give this new "pet family" a chance before telling them to give up now???!!! Just like new pups have to start somewhere so do new pup owners!! I thought part of this site was for people to ask for help and help be given? But the more I read the more it seems like it's attack the newbie for asking "stupid questions". The only stupid question is one that isn't asked!!! Some of you out there might be fantastic dog owners and have a whole lot of experience to share with these newbies...don't scare people away with attacks!! How hard is it to just say "this is what I would suggest/do if it was me" and "good luck and have fun with your new fur-baby"? Thank you. I'll be removing this original post as the comments have done much more harm than good. Dogz online need to better moderate their users. Comments and advice from long time Stafford breeders and rescuers have done more harm than good? You must be kidding, how about you take on board some of the knowledge and wisdom being offered from those who know and love the breed? As for Dogz Online needing to be 'better moderated', looks like you are an expert on everything including how to guarantee life long issues for that poor puppy! Perhaps if you saw the number of Staffords dumped in our pounds and the level of cruelty metered out to our breed through sheer ignorance you might understand why so many of us are passionate about their plight.
  5. Exactly, thank god someone else get it! Bravo!
  6. How about you read my post properly and not jump straigt on the "you're a bad dog owner" bandwagon? We did plenty of research and have managed to get many mixed reports about whether staffys are good in aprtments or not. The common consensus is that provided they get enough exercise and human interaction they will be absolutely happy in an apartment environment - which she will! Also, I came here for advice, not a scalding! We are not deliberately doing anything to harm the puppy or teach her bad habits, but are simply looking for advice from fellow dog owners. It seems different people and dogs have different ways of teaching and learning. And we won't be leaving the puppy in the aprtment alone during the day - she will be going to work with my husband, and on the occassion she cannot do that, we have a neighbour who will walk her in the middle of the day. I see you have chosen to pull up each post you have disagreed with and rebuffed the contributer, mine included. When you ask for advice on an open forum you are going to get replies that you may not agree with, but that's part of seeking an honest opinion; As for re reading your post, I'd rather not as my tolerance for people treating living breathing puppies as stuffed toys is almost non existent these days. The fact that you have even considered dumping her at your husbands office in the night to 'scream it out' so no one will hear tells a story in itself - Likewise you comment you did your research and it MOSTLY is okay to have a Stafford in an apartment, how many Stafford owners did you run that by. I may seem harsh, but when you work in Stafford Rescue and have spent a number of years at the RSPCA you can see it coming..... All too hard, puppy that doesn't want to spend 20 from 24 hours in a crate develops anxiety problems - deemed a 'problem' dog. A dog crying to get out of it's crate can be a dog letting you know it needs to pee - how else does it let you know? So your 'theory' about not toileting it in the night is a load of hogswash - you need to get out of bed and toilet it when it signals you whilst it is a puppy. You state you are a novice dog owner, but you obviously only want to do it your way - 'non release' on crying, just how does a novice dog owner determine a 'sooking' cry from a 'I need to pee' cry? Good Luck with it, PLEASE, PLEASE remember this is a puppy, a pack animal who cannot hold it's bladder for 8-10 hours at 8 weeks old.
  7. Okay well I am going to say it as it is, what are you thinking when you say you are going to leave a Stafford pup in a crate night and day? That is not how to crate train a dog. Puppies need their liberty and your ignorant comment that by locking her in and letting her scream it out really demonstrates that you must be a first time Stafford owner. Do some research and get some assistance with the proper way to crate train a dog. The dog must learn to regard the crate as her 'territory' or 'space', not as a tool of punishment. Puppies need large amounts of liberty (freedom). Having had Staffords for over 35 years, I can emphatically tell you that they need lots of exercise and to be part of a family environment, not segregated in a crate, if you plan on keeping her crated while you are at work long term do the right thing and give her up right now to rescue. Another disaster for a harmless puppy, just waiting to happen.
  8. Sounds like Boogie was quite the character and much loved. RIP Big Boy x
  9. So sorry for the loss of courageous little Billy. You gave him dignity and love in his twlight years, I am sure he will be watching and waiting at the bridge. xx
  10. Well my hubby decided it was time for a new camera - he totally surprised me with a Canon EOS 500D! Well today I have been taking a few quick shots and generally mucking about finding out all about it - here a couple of mug shots of the Staffords....
  11. Good on you Judy - her last memories will be of love and comfort just the way it should be.
  12. Don't worry - you have not committed the ultimate sin - as long as your dog knows that you a strong and consistent Alpha he will 'tow the line'. My 3 Staffords know that when they are 'invitied' onto the bed it's fine, but they also know that when I command 'off', they immediately (even from a deep slumber) get off the bed. Find your happy medium and do what's right for you
  13. The very last one is priceless, the look on your Staffy's face is adorable. Great shots. Love them.
