  4. Week 26 of Greyhounds Nina (right) is here for a few days. Phoebe does not like to share 'her' couch (note the look  ) - but apparently it is ok if they are not touching - red blankie is keeping them apart!
  5. Week 26 of Phoebe - here she is just chilling out on the couch. The black lump behind the red blankie is her friend Nina who is staying for a few days - Phoebe is not amused about sharing!
  6. Week 25 of Phoebe - she's doing very well as an only dog - we are both feeling better each day. She has lots of grey-friends, so she gets plenty of outings with like company. Possum??????

  11. Thank you so much everyone - it really means a lot. And special thanks to those of you who commented that he looked so happy in those last photo's - taken the day he left us. It has tormented me that he may have been in pain that I didn't notice, but now I really do think it was just a freak break (bone cancer or not). He came "home" on Tuesday, and when I feel a bit better we will scatter his remains on the beach he loved so much - his special zoomie place - maybe on his birthday in August. Annie
  12. some dry food makers do advise that adding other foods to their product can cause an imbalance. Can't name them off the top of my head but I have seen that advice previously. It is usually about 85% - ie if you add more than 15% other stuff to dry food, then it is unbalanced. Each manufacturer has a different level but I think 85% is about average. I would have thought it was more to do with adding trace elements like calcium & magnesium as supplements rather then actual food. Complete and Balanced means, it is complete and balance to feed on its own to supply the required nutrition to maintain a dogs life, the only ways these formulas can be thrown out of balance is by adding large amounts of products such as calcium, magnesiums etc, There is absolutely nothing wrong with adding meat or fish or vegies etc IF it is fed 100%, so if you only feed 60% dry and add 40% meat, then they are only getting 60% of "the required nutrition to maintain a dogs life" the other 40% is something else, with different amounts of "nutrients" - that's why the manufacturers refer to the % to keep the balance.

  16. thank you everyone - I am so pleased I used him for the 52 weeks project last year as it forced me to make an extra effort to "capture moments". I have some wonderful photographic memories of him, I just can't look at them yet anyway, must get caught up with this years 52 weeks with Phoebe and the other greyhounds. Annie
  17. It has taken me a week to post this as I am heartbroken. I hope it is ok to post in here as my fellow DOL photog friends knew him the best. As some of you know, Cowboy has been aging rapidly, and over a month ago he suddenly went down on a back leg which was suddenly paralysed. He was recovering really well - until last Thursday. Last Thursday started as a lovely day - sunny and warm - we all went to the local reserve around midday. Cowboy had a lovely time just pottering around in the sunshine - I took some happy pics. We got home, and as he was walking to his bed he fell to the ground and screamed. We picked him up and hubby carried him to his bed and I had a feel - his left elbow was loose. We took him to the vet and Dr. Al confirmed that his elbow had broken. He passed peacefully in his favouriote place - the back of the car, just after 3pm. These are the last pics I took of him - taken on his last day.
  18. I don't know anything about it - other than it is widely used in the greyhoud racing industry.

  21. Week 20 of Greyhounds Here's Dora enjoying a gallop
  22. Week 20 of Phoebe Cowboy continues to improve - thanks for asking. He saw his muscle man on Friday - put his pelvis back in (crunch) and he has a torn pectineus muscle. Not sure if the muscle tear caused the panic, or whether the muscle has torn due to his stumbling/hobbling around. But day by day he seems to be walking better, hopefully he will have a full recovery but it will take some time I think. I will take a pic of him this week fr the other 52 w thread :)
  23. I would think that proper tooth scalers would be made out of surgical steel??? ets - not sure there is a difference though... :)
  24. Now that pic to me just looks like it has been sharpened and the contrast upped a little - not that I know anyfink.
