  1. Why would you bump up the ISO so high? Wouldn't that cause graininess? Genuine question, I'm a beginner. for action shots in those conditions you need a fast shuter speed = high ISO on the 7D ISO 1600 is more than fine if you expose correctly
  2. bump up your ISO to 1600 in those conditions, and aim for a shutter speed of 4000 plus
  3. Couple of months ago for Cowboy - 36kg greyhound consultation - examination & confirmation of fracture etc $27.50 euth & after care $37.15 cremation and scatter box $290
  4. tlc - there are so many posts flyng around at the moment - did you say you had got / were getting the Sigma 17-70? If so, that is a macro too.
  5. sorry - my house is way too small - need the 30mm for the greyhounds indoors as there is no where to step back to :)
  6. Week 31 of Greyhounds this is our foster boy "Boxer" or Boris Bazil, Bozo ...........
  7. Week 31 of Phoebe - this is what she thinks of our foster
  8. Have you downloaded the software that came with your camera? Have a quick look at your pics in zoom browser - you can click on the "show auto focus points' on the top tool bar - this will show you the focus point on the photo and might help.
  9. regardless of what focus type you use, only one 'spot' will be used by the camera to focus, so if shooting multiple dogs you have to think about your setting to get them all in focus.
  10. I use spot 99.9% of the time -
  11. That's not what I mean - are you using spot / single point / point expansion / zone / 19 point AF?
  12. what focus 'mode' are you using?
  13. mmm sorry - he has one brindle eyebrow and ear - that's how he got his name I expect, but yes he is a greyhound. Yes I love my Sigma 30mm 1.4 - it is just the right 'size' for capturing greys. 50mm is 'too close' for portraits in the house, and for zoomies in the yard. My everday day lens - that I attach for a day out for no particular reason (if you know what I mean), is my sigma 17 - 70. White dogs are the worst, especially if next to a black dog. Love photographing black dogs on their own though - easy peasy with 'nice' light.
  14. just a quick action shot taken in the back yard yesterday afternoon - my foster Boxer Canon 7D lens 30mm AV mode ISO 800 shutter speed 6400 (never go much slower for greyhound action shots) aperture 3.2 exposure compensation (for white dog) - 2/3 metering centre weighted (again for white dog - then cropped/recomposed)
  15. What AF are you using - single? spot? zone? expansion?
  16. I actually mostly use my 30mm 1.4 as a portrait lens. The 50mm is way 'too close' for greyhound heads :D
  17. I back up monthly (after culling) to two hard drives. I categorise them into whatever I have taken them for, then leave in folders by date.
  18. Week 30 of Phoebe all dressed up at the GSN Winter Warmer at the weekend - well it was sort of a day at the races :)
  19. Week 30 of Greyhounds a bit of action at the GSN Winter Warmer at the weekend.
  20. Thanks for that, I did ask that question but didn't really get much of an answer of how 'dog friendly Frankston is' No probs, I don't live in their council area but I know people who do :)
  21. Frankston is not a very dog friendly council/area though. They have a no dog zone around the central district.
  22. you can have 4 dogs on the Mornington Peninsula without a permit if your land size is >10,000 sq,m.
  23. Just got home after a few days staying with a friend in Geelong. Week 28 of Greyhounds - here's Oscar- he loves the beach so much he's thinking of applying for a job! Week 29 - Oscar again - just chillin'
