  1. There's a product called nutritional yeast - sometimes called vegetarian yeast or the one I have is called savoury yeast flakes - for vegetarians - made by Lotus and available from health food stores. It is a good source of B vitamins, is slightly flakey in texture, and has a bit of a cheesy flavour. You can sprinke/mix on with their food. As your chi is very small you wouldn't want to put much in - maybe just a pinch to start off. Greyhound owners in the US swear by it for sick dogs or picky eaters. Have used it here on those who won't eat. Comes in a packet - around $6 for 100g. Good luck. annieK
  2. You're lucky then Annie, I haven't. sorry to hear that poodlefan - maybe it's a greyhound thing
  3. Once when I forgot the close the bathroom door a foster ate 3/4 of a bar of strawberry scented soap
  4. maybe the acid in the avc is burning the lawn , and the natural dog wee is then making the grass grow better
  5. I always gently steer my fosters as I say "go to bed" on the first night - they sleep on a dog bed in the loungeroom. I find it only takes a couple of nights for them to get the idea. My current foster is so funny - in the mornings I know that he's awake - I can hear him roaching with his legs on the wall - but he stays in bed until I give him a pat and say ok. Then he runs around madly all excited! annieK efs
  6. I have found that feeding a raw diet means no yellow lawn. I always switch fosters over as soon as I can from processed food and hey presto! annieK
  7. you will find some useful info in here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=144874
  8. I actually use an old juicer - and use the pulp for the mush and add a bit of the juice. I tend to juice the carrots, celery & fruit first so I can drink some of it cos I'm not that keen on spinach/cauliflower juice myself!
  9. Skip the steaming they will lose their goodness. Just blend them raw! I use anything green - brocoli, bok choy, green beans, celery, spinach... plus the odd carrot basically anything that happens to be in the fridge. Fruit - apples pears in small quantity. I then add yogurt and a raw egg to the days ration and mix in with the raw meat. It's just about variety over time.
  10. ha ha just taken Smokey's stitches out this morning - he's fine but OH has gone for a lie down - says he feels "queasy"
  11. just get friendly with your local "fish man" and ask for some shark cartlidge - it's free!
  12. why is it OH can happily hold a bitch still while I remove spey stitches yet when I mentioned this morning that foster Smokey needs his "doodle" stitches out today I am suddendy a barbaric mad woman and "we should take him to the vet" annieK
  13. I'm 10 minutes from Hastings and the rain has been much more on than off - today is the first day I've seen the sun in over a week
  14. I think there are more benefits with a martingale than a linited slip. You have more "tolerance" with a martingale, you have to be much more precice with a limited slip or it comes off. oh and there is much more choice available in martingales annieK
  15. mmmmm still have rice then corn gluten as the second and third ingredients will stick with EP holistic (as supplement to raw)
  16. Would love to try it (well the greys not me). Evo has always been my first pick but won't buy it from PP. So where can I get Orijien in Melbourne ?(Mornington Peninsula) annieK
  17. If it's a morning spew in yellow bile, it's just "empty tummy syndrome". give him a dog biscuit before he goes to bed at night - that should fix it! Oh and rip the carpet up Annie
  18. If he's fine with the Leonards mince then it is not the content of the bone, maybe the size of the pieces he is swallowing, as this mince is just the frames minced. I don't like any of those "plastic" bone type teeth cleaners as they are just as likely to be swallowed in big chunck as the natural bones. If you don't want to clean his teeth with a doggy tooth brush, you can give his gum line a quick wipe with 1:10 diluted savacol. If you can afford it ($'s) - you could buy him some large chunks of meat when they are on special. Sort of like a half leg of lamb without the bone. He would need to tear and have a very good chew to eat it, which would floss/clean his teeth. I get pork hocks for this, which are huge, but they don't eat the bone, just tear off the meat. Your vet should scale his teeth on a regular visit - he won't need any sedation. The vet just holds the mouth open and flicks the plaque away Hope that helps Annie
  19. My guys love chicken feet - so funny to see those little tootsies hanging out of their mouths ;) Great as treats, and very good for them. But they can be hard to find - I envy you. annieK
  20. This is what pannus looks like and I think cyclosporine drops are the treatment. annieK
  21. My guys had a pigs tail each for dinner tonight - they love 'em! They get a trotter oh maybe once every couple of weeks, and a pigs head maybe once a month! No problems here with pork. annieK
  22. I got a small freebie bag which I intended to try. But then I read the "soak overnight" bit, and well I'm really not that well organised. So it is still in the cupboard annieK
