  1. I don't know, mine just... well.. chomped on them the first time I gave them, but they are used to lamb necks and shanks which have much harder bones etc so maybe chop them in half and see how they go - or sprinke a tiny bit of garlic salt on them - that's a good "starter" annieK
  2. I use Melrose flaxseed oil - just a drizzle over breakfast every second day
  3. I get whatever is the cheapest - salmon heads or sardines. When I buy "human fish" I ask for a couple of salmon heads and they're usually free. They have no problems with the bones. annieK
  4. Well I think they only have "one" but on a quick glance, it's quite dangly and looks like several Anyways, they get tongue and hearts in with brekky a couple of times a week and the odd hidden chopped kidney (they will eat that in a bowl :D ) I once tried to hand out small slices of lambs liver - well what a performance. usually anything that comes direct from the kitchen bench is ;) you know, the oil & vinegar in the bottom of the salad bowl type of thing Well I handed out the sliver of liver - big fellow took it of me, then just stood there with it on the end of his tongue (tongue hangin out) then he shook his head until it flew off
  5. Hi Erny, I give my guys chicken frames with the livers & other bits attached - they won't eat them from a bowl ;) They would have the frames for tea maybe three nights a week, but I have no idea how many gooby bits that is as I don't look :D - we're talking 26kg & 36kg greys. annieK
  6. sounds wierd - sorry no idea ;) pics perhaps? it's not something sticking to her when she zoomies is it? I have to "de sand" mine after a trip to the beach - it sticks to their hineys.
  7. When I take foster through vet work I may give them one that first night - depends how I see them coping. Our vet usually gives a pain killing injectiion at the time of surgery - so I play it by ear. Never heard of the "bandaid" though! annieK
  8. absolutely I am one of the many people who have written to Natura and they don't seem to give a rats that their only supplier in Oz is PP/PGD etc. It is an excellent food, but geez, Natura would increase their sales by 10000000% if they had other distributors. efs
  9. chopped in half - let them have a good chew for an hour for a few nights then throw it away cheap entertainment - for all of us
  10. It is from the Eagle Pack people - a lesser grade food than eagle pack for the lesser market (they told me) They gave me a large breeders bag to try - gave it to a few fosters but they didn't do well on it at all - a couple had the runs - most likely the corn.
  11. Have a look at the holistic range - especially the sardine anchovy one
  12. OR 1.2kg's of chicken frames/necks/wings/lamb offcuts/beef/bones/hearts/tongue etc = $1 to $2 per day and...much less output
  13. from the Vic GAP website Satin Balls These are very high in fat so need to be fed with care, but most greyhounds do cope with a lot of fat with no problems. 2kg mince 8oz packet cream cheese 400g jar peanut butter 1 small jar wheatjerm 1 doz egg yolks (not whites) 1 cup flaked oats soaked in cream Mix all the above and form into burger sized patties. Freeze. Add half a burger to each meal to start with, working up to a full patty (in addition to your normal food) twice daily. Make smaller sized patties for smaller dogs. I have never made/used them, but I knew I had seen cream as an ingredient somewhere annieK
  14. thanks - the big white bloke has turned 8 so I thought he would be slow enough by now, but NO will have to wait until the weekend I do understand the camera as I had a "normal SLR" before the digital and used to use it manually all the time - but that was before greys will keep trying! annieK
  15. Hi I've been following these threads for a while with great interest. Like Krislin I have the problem of very fast moving creatures. These are a few shots taken on holidays recently. I tend to be lazy and just use sports mode, as when they take off - well they just take off and there really isn't any time to "adjust". Of course OH has no interest in photography so no use asking him to hold the dogs while I get the camera settings right. Hw just thinks I should be able to point and shoot. Any comments/suggestions most welcome. Canon 400D with the 2 kit lenses. thanks annieK this one has been "very" cropped"
  16. We had a greyhound in foster care with suspected SLE/DLE - of course without having a toe biopsy it cannot be definately diagnose. We opted to stay away from steroids/drugs, and try the natural method of treatment. We put him on a high antioxident kibble diet, with high dose omega oils and vitamin E as reccomended by our vet. He was adopted a few months ago, and so far is doing very very well without the need for steroids. His new owner does realise of course that he may be prone to flare ups, but so far he is doing fine, hasn't lost anymore nails, and his nose is looking great. annieK
  17. I have a big green wheelie bin that I use to keep spare bags of food for foster carers. I line it with a huge thick plastic bag, then put the smaller bags inside. It's handy, because I can keep it outside and of course wheel it to move it if I need to annieK
  18. I don't know if there is any right or wrong on this. We use sentinel spectrum on our fosters as we believe it to be the most "gentle" of all. Please don't ask me why I said that, but one of our committee members is into "natural", and she recommended it. I used to use revolution, but my old boy seemed "unwell" for a couple of days after using it. I have started ours on sentinel too, although I don't really see any reason to use anything for fleas. annieK
  19. My opinion spottychick and it's also my opinion that it was probably the raw diet and the glucosamine supplement that improved the health of your old dog and helped you to raise a healthy puppy, the VAN probably had little to do with it. Many people have seen improvements in dogs with allergies when they've introduced a raw diet and many people have seen improvements in arthritic dogs when a glucosamine supplement is added to their food, many of these people don't use VAN. As I said it's my opinion that VAN is a waste of money, it just doesn't happen agree with yours. what Miranda said  I had some VAN given to me - read the packet & tossed it. I later found out the price - Oh and I think if you're really truly feeding raw, then the grains from the animals stomach would be part digested - not bird seed soaked in water annieK
  20. I would suggest that that would depend on the frames - and where you get them. The quality of frames varies so much from shop to shop, and the Lenards (who mince the frames), tend to have very little meat and far too much fat on them. annieK
  21. She's been doing really really well, and within a couple of days was able to venture into the back yard (on her own). I will get greytpets to give more details. thanks for the interest annieK
  22. it's made by the innova people so will only be availbale from PP
  23. thanks Erny - the "grey lady" in question is a foster dog of ours, so agility isn't an option. Julie (greytpets) and I had a chat about her last night, and the ideas you have given are along the lines of what we have been thinking about trying  will let you know how we go annieK
