  1. Back in the UK (in the olden days..lol) we used it topically fior acne, ulcers, dandruff. ETA seem to remember that my grandmother found it to be the only relief she got from shingles..
  2. There are three types of acidosis - acute acidosis can be caused by over excitement, barking and panting, general huffing and puffing especially if in hot or humid conditions (quite possible if he is affected by Daphne on heat). Acidosis isn't always to do with over exersion in a physical excercise sense. This in itself could lead to loss of the electrolytes that buffer (neutralise) lactic acid - which would explain colapse, blood in urine etc. That's interesting anniek, thanks for that. Could acidosis cause a white cell count of 0.4? Don't know - was the 0.4 count the Phagocytes or Lymphocytes? ETA low white cell counts "generally" indicate viral infections, bone marrow abnormalities or overwhelming infections and blood poisoning. In this situation, the white blood cells are concentrated in the area of infection and are not circulating in the blood, resulting in a low count. But without seeing all blood values I don't know. I'm no expert, but I know someone who is
  3. Here's mine for the day - taken shortly after midnight!

  5. yep - lets all have a drink to bloody nuisances
  6. so bloody relieved - was scared to pop in again!
  7. don't worry Kirty - just make sure anything bigger than a scratch is washed in salty water - she'll be fine. they heal very quickly.
  8. If they SCREAM - it usually means nothing - I think they actually scream because they get a fright. If they are truly injured or sick, they tend to be very stoic and it's hard to tell. Foster Phoebe is a screamer - she will squeal if you try to cut her nails, she is recovering from a shattered stopper bone, and I have been there when the vet has removed the plaster which is quite hard to do, and she was so very good! :D ;) Yep!!! Ask Rebanne to show you some photos of Piper her greyhound. He literally de-gloved himself, his entire chest, on the clothes-line windy thing (which is why Bart is NEVER allowed to do zoomies in the front yard). Apparently he didn't make a sound. In the first 2 years of his life Bart cost us a fortune in cuts - in the end the vet showed me how to superglue his wounds and that is what we've done ever since :D Yes - superglue is on top of the 1st aid box, and the first thing packed into the car when we go away!

  10. Very hard to pick three .... my "old soldier" showing us he can "still fly" at the age of 9 This is Ben, and I used this pic in our 2010 calendar - I love it oh and this one because it makes me laugh - and almost makes me cry when I think of the bad situation we rescued them from
  11. I haven't bought from them but AnnieK has. Yep I bought my two Sigma lenses from them. The excitement starts straight away, because you can track where it is on the internet
  12. Almost mirror image! luckily one his whiter feet
  13. Put the tree up ouside on the covered deck this year where there is more space. Noticed yesterday it has grown cobwebs
  14. Have just read the whole thread, and yes - acidocis (rhabdomyolysis) is exactly what I was thinking. Outward symptoms - usually two or three days after overdoing it - dark tea/ blood urine, and very sore muscles along the saddle. Anyway, hope he recovers quickly. Annie
  15. When we first taught our male greyhound to sit my OH waited until he sat (on the way to lying on his bed) - said "sit" gave a treat. Then tried the sit command before he sat on his way down. So far so good. When we gave the sit command in another room he would just walk away - not to worry we thought, he will get it eventually. Well after a few days, OH followed him when he walked away. You guessed it - he took it literally and though "sit" meant sit on that dog bed. :D So then to teach him to sit elsewhere, he thought it was fun to play bow when I said sit - so I had to teach him "bottom" to sit. But I also managed to train him to bow too. So greyhounds are trainable - just maybe a bit different!
  16. I used to buy the old film Kodak or Fuji disposables - back in my snorkelling days. They took some excellent photo's. I remember getting some enlargements done after a weekend at Ewans & Piccaninnie Ponds and taking them to a photographic mob for framing. The fellow asked "oh fantastic - what kind of a rig do you use". I just told him I was the messenger and didn't know ;)
  17. I sometimes put a big "slurp" in a bucket of water and pour it over the dog as the final rinse.
  18. So you wont use Vet who cannot clear the waiting room for you? The one I use had purpose built glass floor to ceiling on two sides - you can see what is in there before entering. Appointments are for a full 15 minutes, so there is never a backlog of animals waiting to go in as they don't uaually run over time. I have been to other vets where you have to wade through narrow places between chairs to get to the counter and through to the consult room. My vets consult room is just as you go in the front door of the clinic.
  19. Appointment with chosen vet - and an empty waiting room - or I'd find somewhere else.
  20. OK guys - fess up - it's me you're talking about Yes I did this to most of the Santa pics from our party! - I had limited time to turn around a lot of pics, so I took the quick way of editing out the garbage bins etc, and gave a them a snowy Xmassy look - they also went into those tacky Xmassy frames that have pattened and coloured edges, so I wanted something blank between the subjects snd the card border. People really did like them believe it or not (I know you don't)......... :D Annie
  21. Kirislin had a similar dilema a little while ago - should she get new carpet or a new camera. Now I have a similar one so thoughts and help needed please? When my mum died several years ago, I packed up her stuff and some older bits from both of my grandmothers. Mum lived in the UK so it was all a bit of a rush. I had to take my watch in for a new battery last week, and thought I would also take in one of the old watches (grandmothers). None of my family had any money..lol I just liked a particular watch. When I called into my jeweller (my little watch man) - he said "Oh wow this is nice - it's gold and it's a rotary". Mmm so I left it there for a service and clean to see if he could get it working. He just rang me said it is all fine and dandy. I asked him what it would be worth and he said about $2,000 and asked where i got it from. I explained and he has asked to bring in the "other stuff" so he can have a quick look. I'm thinking 7D - NOW, but also feeling guilty.
  22. d/k where you are, but we use Graham Brown for our greys - he's is at Pakenham.
