We have a real tree each year - in the corner near the front window. Our dogs have inside acess all through - I just make sure the cord from the lights goes to the wall "high up", as our Phoebe likes to trance under the tree and I don't want her getting tangled in the cord!

Mine often plays up in low light. Maybe it's because it wasn't originally designed for Four Thirds, but indoors when trying to focus through the bars on a dog kennel, it can be a nightmare. My 12-60 Zuiko, meanwhile, isn't as troublesome, but it doesn't have a wide enough aperture at 30mm. So either the shutter speed is too slow or the ISO is too high (ie noise). So I have to grin & bare it... Mind you, if I can do the photos without the presence of the bars on the kennels, that is I'm in the kennel with the dog, then the Sigma does become more reliable, but it will still go hunting for time to time, although it is more likely to be slow in focusing. I will state, though, given sufficient light, I've never had a problem. Will let you know how it goes = hopefully by the weekend I have good results with ISO 3200 so I don't think I will have any problems

thanks guys - we have our party at a reserve which also has a footy oval - will have a look next time I'm out as I hadn't thought about a scoreboard. Was thinking a step ladder to get on the roof of the club house (before I get into the champagne ) From memory they have a covered "stand" with rows of steps, so I guess we could get them all in there - I think it's about 10 steps high ...mmmm But it will be well shaded so dark. I have the Sigma 17 - 70 which should do the trick if I can get up high. Will be sure to post the result. But the party isn't until Dec 5th.

OK so we have our greyhound Xmas party coming up, and are expecting over 100 humans with at least 80 greyhounds attached to them - maybe more. We have Santa Paws coming along and he will have his photo taken many times with the greys. Now, one of my fellow committee menbers (a real bright spark and non photographer :D ) has suggested I do a group shot as a fundraiser So, any ideas on how to do this - may have to climb onto a roof, or perhaps make a panorama up? It's not as though half of the people can pick the dogs up and tuck them under their arms to squeeze everyone in.

I love my 7D - I upgraded from the 400D. I wanted higher ISO, more fps and video - I got the lot. But I think I've had it around 9 months and am still learning. Just had a look at the comparison 7d to 550D as someone made a comment that the 550D is "better". But "better" for what? It's about what you want out of a camera. The 7D has double the max shutter speed of the 550D (8000 v 4000) and almost triple the bps in continuous drive (8 v 3.7) So I dunno about the 550D being "better" - it wouldn't do it for me for what I want. I would hate to be in your shoes tlc :D sorry .....

thanks kja (my personal enabler) - that's what I thought. I do go to POTN but I waste too much time looking... :D so was hoping for a short sensible response - you're it girl :D

I'm thinking this might be my next lens. I need something a bit wider than 50mm for the greys as they are obviously big dogs :D What are the options (if any) wider than 30mm, and would they distort too much for fairly close up portraits? Must say I like the sound and price of this lens. thanks annieK

this is actually a pre-zoomie taken early this morning. A quick pee in the bushes, kick back, head spin then off ............

G-F has asked me to post these two pics of "Indoor Archie". Mmmmm I was sure G-F had some kind of rule about dogs not being allowed ON her bed, but I guess he was IN it so that's ok.

Wonder if he's still wearing the same knickers :D

What a lovely tribute to a gorgeous boy. Even though he was blind, Archie "loved" with his eyes to the very end. A pic taken early October this year. RIP sweet boy.

What's Considered A Heathly Poop?

For me it needs to be small, slightly bouncy, with no smell - perfect! -
the 100m is noice for portraits too
-
mmmmm bummer about the batteries

I always alternate focus points on the fly, but have the focus set mostly on spot AF - to get the smallest focus area, especially for the ones with the pointy noses running towards me.
-
I think I got this one but I looked and I looked - I will know for sure when it arrives :D

I can't type it all out as I will probably make a mistake, not knowing the "word" for each of the pictures, but you need to go into C fin IV -1 - custom controls. That is where you can assign the buttons to do different things.
