http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8277890 Has a better run down of all the other charities he left his fortunes too. Nice to see actually that he wasnt one of these people who just left his whole fortune to his dogs, and donated to lots of charities and his family. Still sad though.

Just when we look like having a win over letting business owners choose if they want dogs in their outdoor eating areas or not...Who does this council think they are?? Who are they so say "I dont care what the state law says Im going to bring in a local law cos I dont care" :mad As if QLD isn't Dog unfriendly enough??? "You don't need a dog to enjoy coffee" - so by this why cant people say "you don't need your annoying child to enjoy coffee." Arrogant people like this shouldn't have so much authority. I would have posted this in the news section but I thought more coasties might have had the chance of seeing it here. What about chicken wire attached to the top of the fence facing inwards? At a bit of an angle, similar to what you would do with cat mesh to keep cats in a yard but if you use something stronger... that might prevent her from climbing up and over the fence. If she is giving it a clear jump though then it may not work. That shouldn't cost too much to implement. If you can come up with something similar to this http://new.dpi.vic.gov.au/pets/all-about-cats/diy-cat-enclosure-and-fencing/cat-proof-fencing it might help ETA Oops i didnt see how old this thread was either

Barked And Growled At By Other Peoples Dogs On My Property
Maxiewolf replied to Maxiewolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thought I heard it very close today, went out hunting.. (with my camera phone) and after hacking my way through what ever foul stinking weed bush thing has taken over the back boundry I found a labrador shaped "tunnel" through the bush, and sure enough a labrador shaped Hole in the wire. By the looks of things, when the neighbour on my side built her new fence (which doesn't match up with anyone else's in the back corner) they pulled out a post that was holding up the wire fence along the back, i didn't see it cos it was buried in mud.. and of course no post, and the fence has been weighed down by the weeds/vines what ever they are... letting the dog push its way through. So I put the post back up and reinforced it with some mesh... no more dog today. But I still don't think that dog actually lives in the back neighbours yard.. there was no sign of it when I was fixing the fence.. In fact I heard it barking several houses down.. so it seems he gets free wander where ever he likes between any house he can get into in his street. If I catch sight of him roaming loose in our street again Ill be calling the council (again). -

Barked And Growled At By Other Peoples Dogs On My Property

This isnt a staffy (the staffy came in the front of my house from up the road and just the once), its a Labrador or a cross one. Its a rental I dont really have the option or money to go sticking up new fences. I cant see or hear any sign of this dog at the moment, ive heard it bark before but nothing is setting it off at the moment... so unless its gone out of my yard to somewhere else now since its gotten out? I will be calling the ranger if it comes back. its really not my responsibility to keep other peoples animals "out". Its my responsibility to keep my animals in. (Brutus isnt here at the moment, upsettingly I had to get him to live at my dads while I was worried for his safety from my last neighbour... so this whole situation is quite upsetting, so I still cant have my dog till I get all this sorted out ) And I cant sure up the fences because its overgrown on my side... and again its a rental its not up to me to go ripping out the bush to get to the fences, or fix them. Its not overgrown on the sides where the dog could be coming from. Oh well cant call anyone till monday now... so ill see how many times it comes back over the weekend. and I am calm.. im not about to do anything crazy... but Im not here all the time and mum's here by herself... ranting she wants to call the police... over a "dangerous dog" that should be destroyed etc. I dont want something like that to happen. But I dont see why I should feel "bad" reporting an unconfined dog to the council... if it wasnt acting in a threatening manor and it could be returned civily to where ever it belongs and the fence fixed then it wouldnt be an issue -
Barked And Growled At By Other Peoples Dogs On My Property

** UPDATE ** Okay the lab was back, sometime this afternoon... same routine barking and growling, standing its ground and snarling in our yard at my mother. (basicly in case your wondering.. mum is a disabled pensioner and spends most of her day outside sitting on a garden swing reading or playing with her darn iphone...) I was even affraid to get out of my car tonight incase it was around in the dark and I startled it or something. Now we cant trace whos yard it belongs in, because it simply vanished (and theres at least 4 possible yards it could go to) Went round to the other street but there are so many damn trees and bushes there I cant see which houses back onto ours, Cant see the house numbers... (thanks google for NOT being accurate!) Useless sunshine coast council has no proper after hours contact, too much time has passed for the duty officer to be sent out to look for the dog. Emergency contact said to call back as soon as it was in the yard. -

funnily enough mum DID try to spray it with the hose (new house.. untested hose....) she grabs the hose turns it on and.... *trickle* I mean I know it isnt funny but... well it is a little bit. Ill also put some citronella oil along the back boundary too.. I've found this to be the most successful at detering things. But yeah.. seems that all these animals think that my backyard is THEIR property and we are intruding... get the feeling the previous tenants just invited them in all the time or something? I mean I like other animals yeah... but not ones that are gonna bite us >_> I mean I have a Dobe.. can you imagine if he even Barked at the kids over the back fence? OMG OH NOES your VICIOUS dog is after my kids!! (lick them to death and suffercate them with slobber more like it) -
Barked And Growled At By Other Peoples Dogs On My Property
Maxiewolf replied to Maxiewolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Been and Had a closer examination of the "overgrowth" in my back yard.... seems that after one of the neighbours built a new fence (which.. doesn't go all the way to the ground.. and I'm pretty sure its HER cat coming in) - She has already been over and had a go at us because my cat escaped the house one night and to stop her from going under the fence while i was trying to catch her I put some plastic/wood and cardboard... anything I could find.. it was dark and i was in a hurry to not let our cat go under the fence while I was trying to catch her... she came round the next day screaming at us about how sick she was of stuff going under her fence and crushing her plants and it just cost her thousands to have the garden redone etc etc.. I'm thinking We haven't even been there a month how is this OUR fault??? - So yeah her new fence goes into the back corner, clearly she had her fence done professionally and it doesn't match up with ANYONE'S fence in the back corner of the yard. So the Labrador could have come from 3-4 possible yards ugh. Im all for dogs that visit... Would not worry me. But it worries mum she's not overly fussed on dogs and is a bit of an old fashioned a big stick is the best defence against a vicious dog type. And Brutus already has a thing about lab's.. Yellow ones anyway cos when he was at a boarding kennel once, two lab brothers got into his pen and attacked/bullied him for sometime before someone found that and seperated them So I think for the moment till i locate where this lab has come from more accurately.. Ill be working on putting up just a wire barrier infront of the overgrowth thats covering the "fence" so if it comes in it cant get up close to the house to harass mum while im not home and if I see it when Im home Ill try to make friends with it and see whos yard it lives in. I saw the staffy being walked on a lead this morning around the corner, Ill try some citronella repellant crystals out the front to stop it from coming in the garage (and hopefully this will deter the neighbours cat too) Brutus does bark at and chase strange cats.. but Id hate to deal with the fall out of if he actually caught a neighbours cat. He is fine with our cat.. they will sit nose to nose and not care.. And Ill complain about the poor fences to the Real Estate agent, but the landlord lives over seas so i dont see anything happening fast there... -
Pedigree Dog Segment On The 7pm Project
Maxiewolf replied to huski's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wont watch it. It will just make me too mad. I'll just prepare for the fallout of idiocy these shows create. Suddenly every Sally Spectator and Joe Public is an expert on the "deep dark world" of Pedigree dogs and anything you say different is just.. *gasp* lies. Where's the pedigree "anything" exposed special... what.. don't the masses care that the Arabian horse is only descended from 5 major strains? and outcrossing was strictly forbidden? but but but.. don't we care about how inbred they must be? What about how closely Inbred some endangered species will end up as a result of humans trying to bring them back from the destruction we caused? oh guess that's not important either. Animals Inbreed, thats a fact. Wild animals do it. Wolves have genetic diseases (but we are too busy killing them off or at least trying to to even care..) Oh sorry... must be just dogs this year. Glad I didnt watch. -
Okay... now I'm annoyed. I've just moved house in the past few weeks... and Im stuck in a 6 month lease which if I break I will of course have to pay.. So Id really rather not make a huge amount of trouble while i'm here as the new neighbour. But Geeze Louise!!! other people and their roaming animals annoy me!!! Okay we have an open yard, but at the moment I dont need to keep anything "in" cos Brutus is at dads, and shutting the front gates to my house is a pain as they are heavy and dont work too well. Mum cant open the gates to get out if I close them and im not home so they are left open. So.. Ive already had a roaming staffy in here... came up to my mum who was sitting in her garden swing, in the back yard and had a bark at her, then when she tried to shoo it away we got tail up hackles raised etc. Like we where on Its property or something!! The staffy has a collar and a council tag and is registered, it lives a few houses up and spends 70% of its time sitting out the front of its property. Obviously it seems very friendly to the kids in the street... but who knows. To come onto my property and bark as if its defending its territory?! The guy who owns it looks rather intimidating so im not about to confront him directly, and since everyone in the street saw us moving in... a sudden complaint about this dog.. would be quite obvious as to who it is. So for now Im stuck. Havent seen the staffy on/in our property for a while now. Now for the neighbours on the BACK side - Today... THEIR dog brown-labrador-retreiver looking thing breaks into our yard from some hole that must be in the fence that I cant find cos its overgrown on my side. Now ive heard this dog barking ever since we moved in... its a very agressive sounding dog and Id never seen it till today.. and again.. it came into our yard, hackles up, tail raised GROWLING and BARKING at my mother who was in the back yard... now I can only assume the dog was a bit confused.. he's wandered through a hole and found an intruder in what he probably thinks is an extension of his domain. But its a very scarey dog.. to come at like that. Mum was affraid to try and get inside incase it went for her. By time I got something to try to restrain it with (I was going to call the pound on this one.. to come through our back fence and aggressively bail up someone not in its yard? wasn't going to take that at all. It was going straight to the pound.) it had gone back through the fence... and I didn't see where it came through. Oh and to top it all off... the Neighbours CAT is attacking our flyscreens trying to get INTO my house to attack My cat cos it must think she is an Intruder!!! Its INSIDE my house bloody hell im not safe here at all!! Sometimes I hate being a responsible pet owner.. how come everyone else seems to get away with not caring a stuff what their animals do?? So yeah... dont want to make unpleasant waves after just getting here but this is rediculous. I jsut spent $3000 on moving to get AWAY from an abusive neighbour who scared us so much I was scared to keep my dog at home in case he did something to him... now this?? Neighbours Suck! Rant over.
-
In retrospect... on "average" that works out to about $5.25 a Day for a large dog living for 13 years... I spend more than that a day on coffee... So compared to my caffine habit. My dog's company is a bargain. But yes I think the worst case scenario version of this should be a manditory sign for any petshop that still insists on selling dogs and cats "To Provide your new companion with his BASIC needs it will cost you This much for his lifetime." scare them into thinking about it. And of course they don't take into accounts how many "lifetimes" worth of dogs one can go through.. i reckon id be up to about $150,000 at least by now lol.

To take comfort in the fact that other people are as passionate about dogs as I am ^_^

Why Do A Lot Of Ppl Feel It's Ok For Pet Shops To Sell .....
Maxiewolf replied to Chezy's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's more the fact that a lot of pet shops have such a small cage with heaps of birds in it, so over-crowded that they can't even stretch their wings. It would be fine if they had size appropriate cages and didn't keep any more than 3 or 4 birds to each cage, and if they actually had fresh food in there too, and some toys or leaves and branches. Not just a small cage, 15 budgies, seed, water and one perch. There are limits to how many birds you can keep in a cage, and the amount of space you need to add for each additional bird, so If you believe a pet shop you know has too many birds in a small cage call the council in the area and ask them to inspect. I used to have large flight cages for my birds... when I bought my shop it had aviaries... I found birds got way more stressed out being chased around an aviary with a net while you tried to catch the right one as opposed to just being able to reach into a smaller cage and get the right bird quickly without stressing it and the others out much worse. -
Brutus always gets to lick the stick. ^_^ though Im not sure id be generous enough to actually buy him a whole icecream lol. And for his size i dont think a bit on a stick will upset his tummy too much.

Why Do A Lot Of Ppl Feel It's Ok For Pet Shops To Sell .....
Maxiewolf replied to Chezy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Whats the difference between buying a Rat, Mouse, Bird, Rabbit or Guinea Pig from a Pet Shop vs the Mostly backyard breeders all these animals come from? - You would like to hope if your pet shop is ethical enough to not sell cats and dogs but still sells these animals that they are more responsible than breeders.. generally pet-shops don't like to just sell you an animal without letting you out the door with the basics to look after it and are actually required by law to provide you with approved information sheets for any animal they sell (well i know I was told to) (of course that's the way they make money by selling the add ons cos there is next to no money in these kinds of animals). Yes - there are pedigree Rabbit, Rat and fancy mice breeders. And yes there are even pedigree bird breeders. And Having been on both sides of this fence... I've seen alot of these animals at breeders in shocking conditions - Why? Because there is generally no policing on breeding/keeping these animals at home... But a petshop has to go through a regime of cage sizes, animal numbers and procedures in most cases just to sell them. And if they aren't following these procedures.. then thats poor council work. When I had my pet shop the council inspector was never far away always armed with his tape measure, "animal" counter and ticky box sheet of what I could and couldn't do... Unless you are a "registered" breeder with the council of these animals.. who's going to police their welfare... other than nosey neighbours? And the argument of birds being kept in small cages in a pet shop... um... what do people keep them in at home? Not everyone keeps birds in an aviary. Dogs and Cats dont belong in pet shops, but I believe there is nothing wrong with small animals being in pet shops that are being properly policed by council, piaa and or dare I say it the rspca. And as for fish... where would you get most of these fish from if you didnt get them from an aquarium or pet shop? many of them need to be bred on farms or they are imported, and they aren't the kind of thing Joe Public often gets let into. -
I've never heard of this breed and my brain automatically thought "a big, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla dog". You mightn't have heard of one but if I recall correctly... havent seen in a while but Im pretty sure "Fang" out of the harry potter movies is a Neo. I just rmemeber laughign when I saw it as a kid that i actually knew what that dog was when people in the cinema with me didnt.

From all the recent reports Im sure there is just some standard biased anti-dog anti-breed form out there, fill in the blanks of victim and location... choose from selection of breeds.. instant story with no depth of forethought :eyeroll:

http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/story/2011/06/21/friend-saves-tot-after-dog-attacks/ The description of the dog seems really.. uh... off to me o-O "English" Bulldog?

If I recall there was a thread like this some time ago (Im a bit bipolar with boards.. ill post for a bit then lurk for a year...post.. lurk.. so it was probably a while ago) ... but I did have to share, and In advance Im sorry I didnt take a pic I didnt have a chance. But while I was walking around the block today on my lunch break I came across two REALLY NICE and I mean really nice, healthy stunning looking Ridgebacks.. they where just such a nice example of the breed and I had to smile at how nice they looked and really hoped that their owners where the responsible kind who had gotten their dogs from a registered breeder, asked for quality and clearly got it. So besides your own... when was the last time you saw a nice example of a purebreed and did it make you feel good? (And... do you get those kinds of reactions over your dogs? - this is probably more for those who dont have a very popular breed of dog something you dont see all the time.) I usually get 3 reactions on Brutus - 1. Ahhh! Its a Doberman grab your children and little dogs and flee! 2. OMG! hes sooo cute! *pat pat love love etc etc* (Brutus hates those people... NOT) or.. 3. your dogs illegal! how come you have a dog with a docked tail... blah blah blah.. (ironicly.. these people will go out of their way to cross the road.. come over to me and TELL me this..) So on the rare occasion I get a compliment he is a nice looking pedigree.. yep i get the warm fuzzies for that too. You?

Omgosh... how adorable are her face markings! She looks like a Willow. Gratz!

First He Said A Dog Was Okay, Then He Changed His Mind
Maxiewolf replied to Iskiea's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't know what its like in Canberra but aorudn the rental market seems pretty desperate to get renters, I just moved and trying to get a place that would take a dog the size of Brutus was a nightmare 3 years ago... now its more like... "Dog? so what.. just don't let it wreck the house... just PLEASE take the house!!" SO now i have a way better house, not near a busy road.. and owners who dont care what pets I have so long as the house stays in a cared for condition. So good luck with your search! -
Im surprised at how the import bans for some of these breeds work at all.. I mean the Japanese Tosa, Doesn't look like what the average person classify as a "Dangerous Dog" they look like a mastiff x bloodhound! Unfortunately they will end up doing something crazy like blanket banning just to make sure something doesn't get through.. it wont be a ban on a breed it will be a ban on "Even remotely LOOKS LIKE "Breed" So how does that go for the Amstaff & Stafford breeders and their Imports?
-
Pictures help. Yep definatly need some puppy pictures... you know.. for inspiration and.. stuff. Caesar and Cleo? ~_^
