What the FRICK is Wrong with people?!!? Some how I doubt that someone with a large paralysed dog suddenly saw it as they looked over the fence and thought My dog needs it more than theirs... it would have to be someone sick "har har lets take the dogs wheel chair" ... sick darn society. For the charity that got him a new one so quickly!!

Friend Is Determined On Getting A Puppy That Is For Free
Maxiewolf replied to haylz27's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would say steer towards a rescue, they might not be free but usually a nominal fee for getting desexed and what not. Maybe a gentle reminder about things like severe hip displasia etc things that byb's are not known for testing for and that her "free" or "cheap" GSD could cause her wayy more heart break than having to wait by saving a bit longer for one from a quality breeder. -
So Annoyed About An Ad I Just Read :(
Maxiewolf replied to Dogsrawesome's topic in General Dog Discussion
If there is a phone number on there I would report it to the police, skip the council. Idiot might think twice about writing stupid ad's if the cops show up questioning his intent to use a dog as a "dangerous weapon with intent to harm." And maybe the local RSPCA might get him to for "training an attack/fighting dog" not entirely true but they don't have to know that. Why would you want to get someone in trouble for something they haven't done? So the author's English is not great. It does not make them an idiot. 'A guard dog that bites someone' sounds to me like they are wanting a serious guard dog not a bark and run or a watch dog. I guess if they spell guard, as 'gard', then communication probably is not their strong point. A police matter? wtf just don't read the Ad ... *shrug* just sounds like a dangerous dog situation waiting to happen. Possibly an over reaction but yeah... to me just seriously sounds like someone who shouldn't be responsible for a dog "I want a dog that bites" is not a properly trained dog.. its a bad situation waiting to happen. I hope no one responds to the ad at all. -
Can't Figure Out If Tess Is Really Dumb Or Just Playing
Maxiewolf replied to MadWoofter's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would go with entertaining herself, I've seen Brutus do silly things like that... as if his foot is stuck ontop of what ever it is he wants.. usually a crushed plastic bottle... then its like sudden surprise when he does manage to lift his foot... and hes only 4 so I woudlnt say senile. Silly... yes. -

Don't The Rules Apply To You Or Something?

so people that see their dog as part of the family and take it with them in a lot of occasions treat them as babies Good on the lady for bringing the dog in...who knows what she quickly had to get. If 'we' as dogpeople already disagree with this imagine people without dogs. And I think thats why a lot of placed dont allow dogs here. She didnt "quickly" get anything, the dog was alone for some time, there is a clear sign outside the shopping centre that says no dogs except guide dogs, I watched the poor dog get concerned/affraid everytime someone sat down on the bench or walked around it.. I disagree with the dog being there because there is a sign saying no dogs allowed... and if she is "allowed" to bring her dog into a shopping centre then why cant I? Because i respect the rules? I personally think it sucks the amount of places where you CANT take your dog... Was more this woman thought she and her dog where 'above' the rules (I listened to the cleaner politely explain that the dog wasnt permitted inside because it wasnt a guide dog.. (and you can see the silly answer she gave to that - the woman wasnt disabled/blind/ or in need of assistance.. and if it was an assistance dog then there is no reason at all to tie it up unattended for so long.) Mind you... there have been lots of dogs in this centre... i have watched someone walk right past the kiosk i work in with a small fluffy puppy... allowed it to piddle in the middle of the walkway and walk off! The customer I was with made such comments about filthy dogs etc... others complained about the dog... no one blamed the owner... I cleaned up the puppy pee myself because I was sick of hearing everyone whine about it. THIS is why Dogs are not allowed in most public places... I'm not saying its good. But theres just not enough Responsible people around to "win" the battle of dogs being accepted it seems. -
Don't The Rules Apply To You Or Something?

Ive left Brutus in the car and never on a hot day, never in the sun.. the only time I ever leave a dog unattended in the car is in an underground carpark. And again not for very long, though I used to have a genius Idea with my old car. I had 2 sets of keys... one so I could leave it in the car with the engine running and the aircon on, and the other so I could lock the car. Was great when I just wanted to run in and grab a drink or something besides whos gonna "try" and steal my old car with a doberman "chillin" by the aircon taking up the whole back seat? Plus it had ultra dark tinted windows... and being a black dog the lookeyloos didn't really see him. But yes I jsut cant fathom these people who keep leaving their dogs out of sight! And as for the ones who break the rules just because their dog is small and not so easily noticed... doesnt make it right.. Why to i *HAVE* to follow the rules just because my dog is big and easily seen? the rules are there usually because of the people who keep doing things they shouldnt in the first place. -

Talking about leaving dogs unattended... i just walked out the back of this shopping centre.. outside targets doors.. and I kid you not theres 3 dogs tied up out there to different posts. -
There id have to agree, id rather someone try to say I attacked a dog in self defence rather than Brutus having a bite at a dog and being declared dangerous for defending himself, though the way I read that story was the man kicked the dog after the fact as retaliation for it not being on a leash? Three sides to every story... their version, the other version. And then the truth

When I put my last standard smooth to sleep from prolapsed disks... I was told he was going to be disabled when I got him.. and he woudln't live past 2, he got to 6 and had a pretty good innings. And he was about my 3rd "No More Daschshunds!" When I moved out on my own I could finally have a big dog Id always wanted... and was never allowed to have when I was living with parents, housemates etc etc. So I stuck to my No More Dachshunds guns and got my First Dobie. Could not believe the difference moving from 20 years of owning hounds to this kind of dog that really wasn't interested in chasing and hunting every tiny fluffy thing that moved and just wanted to be where I was and watch tv. I still Miss my dachshunds and Im sure I will give in and get another one one day... but for now.. next dog is still likely to be another Dobe.

Don't The Rules Apply To You Or Something?
Maxiewolf replied to Maxiewolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
I used to do the parrot on the shoulder thing when I was a kid. Even took him to the movies. Was only in later years that peoples attitudes really started to get more negitive towards animals in places. Mind you most common place I used to go with the bird was Miranda Fair in Sydney.. I think most people just assumed Id just bought the bird from the PP downstairs or something. I always wondered how the "no dogs" in a big shopping centre worked when there was a PP in there. Quite often youd see people with a puppy they had just gotten walking around. Course if they didnt just get it from there they could always say they did. -

Thats Gympie for ya. Though I guess a baby joey isnt the kind of thing you can "tie up" and come back to and their argument would be "Sign on the door doesnt say no native wildlife." Though I did catch a bush turkey in this shopping centre once.. that was quite exciting... -
Well this has been an interesting morning I must say. By Interesting I mean totally boring. Been standing here at work with nothing going on and we hear this dog barking, a woman brought this dog up the ramp from the carpark and proceeded to tie the dog to a chair... INSIDE the shopping centre... and leave it alone there for at LEAST 20 minutes. There are signs on the door that say Guide Dogs Only. Update: The cleaner waited for the lady to come back to her dog, and politely explained that dogs other than guide dogs where not permitted in the centre. The response from the owner "Well He's my Guide dog" And the cleaner asked would it be possible for her to tie him up outside in the future "He doesn't like the sun" OKay... I myself have been struck by the oh I just quickly need something, while im out walking... but I WONT get it if I have to tie Brutus up in a position, where 1. I cant see him. 2. Cant reach him within 3 steps If I have to and 3. If the whole fiasco is going to take more than a minute and I dont make a habit of it cos Im just too affraid of what someone would do to him.... i hate people sometimes. But this poor dog was just left there for well over 20 minutes...!!

Sad that so many people are becoming so un-dog-friendly. I want to know why I cant sit at an outdoor eating area with my dog sitting beside me minding his own business... but people with loud noisy screaming children playing zoomies between the tables are okay??? My dog is cleaner than some people and he doesn't even eat at the table!

These days... people are so darn cruel that if they seriously want in your house, a dog is no more of an obstacle than you are. I imagine that Unless you do have a "man stopper" of a dog that isn't deterred by anything that someone may do to him long enough to Alert you, and allow you time to get to safety and call the police then a dog isn't really much of a defence. Dogs, Locks and Alarms only Deter honest Criminals. Besides... Brutus didnt read the Canine's Guide to What Breed of dog you are and what your surposed to do, he thinks he is a small lap dog and that everyone is friendly and that you should wag your tail and look as pleasant as possible, by hanging your tounge out and giving a dopey grin. (if it wasnt for the fact he has a docked tail (so you actually have to read the whole dog to know he's happy.. which most people dont...) and wears a two inch thick studded staffy collar... he looks about as intimidating as a labrador puppy.) Well okay.. he barks at "Cat" Burglars.
-
Man "hulk" should have his own dog taken away from him since he clearly doesn't know how to treat animals. And the man no matter how elderly the dog or the owner the dog should have been on even a loose lead for his own safety. Still no excuse for this "hulk" to kick the dog. Wasn't the dogs fault.

:D GRRRRRRR!!!!!! First I want to say thankyou again to the very nice people who did find Brutus when he pretty well wandered uninvited into their house... They read his tag and returned him home because dad coudlnt get home from work till 7pm. Brutus had taken himself off on an adventure of well over a klm from the house. When they returned him they said our gate was open, and the neighbour was also wandering around saying she had lost her dog too... so Im not entirely sure if i shoudl be suspect of her saying she lost her dog or weather she herself is responsible for this.. but as far as I know she is quite fond of Brutus and her own dogs... (though her dogs and their serperation anxiety drive me absolutly mental.... She has a Sibe, a Ridgeback and An Akita I think... interesting trio.) So the people who returned Brutus said our gate was open... now when he put Brutus back... after closing the gate he coudlnt get it to close from the outside so he had to come inside the gate.. close it again and then use a ladder to get out of our yard. There is a huge lump of wood against our gate post, which jams against the gate... making it near impossible to open from the other side unless you push the fence back on one side and open the gate at the same time.. So I suspect it wasnt a kid who opened the gate. Now I ask.. who is stupid/mean/vicous enough to open a gate with a Dobermann or The Terrible Trio in the neighbours yard and leave the gate open? I know Brutus sleeps like a log and sometimes you can get out the back before he is there... so maybe they didnt know there was a dog there but for the neighbours dogs who bark like mad if you go near the house.. no such chance. Im very not happy about this... I feel downright violated. I worry now that someone has it in for Brutus because of the neighbours dogs and their howling and screaming and barking at all hours when the neighbour goes in and out... that he might be getting the blame for some of it.... I dont know what else i can do besides add a lock to the gate... but theres other ways to let the dog out or hurt him if thats someones intent besides just opening the gate >_< ... times like this i hate people.

One Of My Worst Nightmares Has Happened.
Maxiewolf replied to baifra's topic in General Dog Discussion
Baifra, I know lots of people will say this and Ill say it too, Im still beating myself up over an accident that took my most loved furbaby away from me 10 years ago now... It was an accident... a crazy chain of events that could not be undone, if just one of those events hadnt happened then quite likely Clyde woudl still be here... but they happened. And noone can control all events... You can drive yourself very insanely Ill by thinking coulda woulda shoulda.... An Accident Is an accident and your parents would know that, you where there for her in the end... and that is the most important thing. RIP Phoebe :D -

Behaviour Of Staff And Their Dogs At A Pet Store
Maxiewolf replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Im starting to see why I cant get a job at any petshop/centre I apply at... Im obviously just too smart. I proably woudlnt go back either...given the quality of the staff. And as for the rushing dog.... what was to stop her from getting "bitchy" at a child? or a person? why just a dog? Id almost be tempted to repost an unregistered dog to the council.. just to be annoying for that. Least she might not keep it in the shop where its dangerous. :D Cudos for your puppehs Cool az a Cucumber attitude. and... Are labradors surposed to act like that dumbest question I ever heard.
