Nicely wetly. Ours are just touch-damp, we have falling mist!!

Your Crested Pigeon is lovely Perseph - we lost one nest when a flowering gum branch came down in last week's windstorm, wrecked the poor tree. But another pair have just hatched two babies in a hedge bush just outside the back door.
-
That's a bit disappointing. We have two from BigW, I think they are about two years old, so not in this recall batch. Still, it makes for being more careful using them which is probably a good thing.

A "baby gate" will keep dogs from over-exercising on the staircase. I think they are usually min $75-80 through to around $150. Aldi will have them for $45 in stores tomorrow (today, Wed 12th) , so good buy for anyone needing a quick fix across stairs or a room doorway.

Whoever Lena Dunham is ... (long article about a shelter dog)
PossumCorner replied to _PL_'s topic in In The News
Sort of a piece not worth reading about a person not worth reading about from the country that gave us Donald Crump. Sympathise with any dog in an unfair situation, set up for failure, one among millions. -
Troy had some years ago, I think they ran out and weren't re-done, maybe not enough interest at the time. Probably has the design/template stashed away somewhere, I kind of recall it wasn't so much DoL as a general pro-purebred or anti-crossbred wording.

Talk to your vet before adopting (article)
PossumCorner replied to _PL_'s topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I'm a bit surprised at the almost vet-bashing. And yes I was somewhat suss about the article, and yes business is business. But surely a behaviourist is just as much a 'business' as a vet surgery. I've paid for some useless negative advice from a behaviourist, but that's no reason to generalise that they are all useless in one area or another. Dolers have the luxury of advice and information from an amazing range of trainers, behaviourists, breeders, vets, showies, rescue groups, with broad experience from new puppy to palliative care for oldies. People have joined to ask about the issues that the OP article raises, and probably receive more well thought out opinions to consider than a consultation with a single professional could cover. -
Talk to your vet before adopting (article)
PossumCorner replied to _PL_'s topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
But you'd already semi-decided on him hadn't you Scottsmum? Just needed the non-aligned vet's confirmation that all was well: or a heads up on any existing/potential problem. The article seems to taking it a step back, saying ask a vet's advice before committing to the species of animal let alone a particular breed or individual. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. -
Dog Friendly Wedding/reception Venues
PossumCorner replied to Arlizng's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well that was all seven years ago, no doubt the wedding went well, they mostly seem to. I was caught too, I was about to say to Clyde hi haven't seen you here for ages, what have you been up to? Oops. (Wonder how Clyde is going since the big move). w -
Australian made treats? Freeze-dried tripe?
PossumCorner replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Okay - thanks. (But that does make it sound like something Rheneas would love). -
Australian made treats? Freeze-dried tripe?
PossumCorner replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just curious, if they are fairly hard to source, does anyone buy tripe from their local butcher and dry it in a household dehydrator? Would this be much different to the commercial treat product? -
Oh I think we'll all cope, dolers are tough. 11/52 We are stuck at home for a while with bottle-feeding 3-4 times daily still. The baby boys here in their ill fitting coats.
-
Yes, don't they. This is rubbing salt in it for all the dolers who are crying out for somewhere to take their dogs for a good safe off-lead run.

Not meaning to take this sentence out of context (I have been fully reading the thread - three times for some posts to decipher the slightly convoluted meanings). This issue certainly came to mind though with the Census result information being dripped to us. At first the data seemed a bit "why bother telling us" as it just reconfirmed what all of us with a grain of intelligence already know. But the stats on both the ageing population and the population density (increased percentage in cities as against 'further out') are a heads-up for dog ownership trends in twenty+ years time, which is not that long in breeder terms. And it does look like the need will be for much higher numbers of the Pug or CavKCS etc. - small manageable dogs for smaller households and older owners. And less call numbers-wise for the larger more active breeds as rural family or younger owner dogs decline in percentage of population.

Really ticked off that the pair abusing the quokka (poor lads, under the influence and acting out of character - yeah, right) - only received a $4000 fine, no gaol sentence. One kicked the poor animal around a small courtyard, it had no escape: the other filmed it, laughing his head off. And are we supposed to feel sorry for them that they had death threats once it was aired? I don't, not that I approve of death threats, that's just another form of thuggery, but they sure deserve worse than the fines they were given. (Was just on ABC TV News).

I answered on the other thread - and have shot off a PM to you Gillybob.

Have to agree - it's hard to find any justification for breeding for continued or increased pain, or misery of any kind. Eyes, hips, whelping agonies, whatever applies. Don't want to quote you out of context moosmum - I think it's related to Juices comment on governing bodies. If they do the 'right thing' by the dogs they will lose members, (and other breeders will look at one another saying "who will be next" much like Rotti etc owners when BSL was being implemented). If any controlling action was seriously undertaken there would be reduction - I don't see this as a bad thing in some breeds, though I can see the downsides to it as you have mentioned.
-
Did you go ahead with buying (or fostering) one of the more guardian type breeds you were considering a while ago? This pup might have been overwhelmed by strangers walking into the room if her socialising has been limited - are there children in her current household?

Kodi: why is this forum quiet about it?
PossumCorner replied to Odin-Genie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeeees - that was a bit rough Maddy. S&M's post was generalising, or that's how I read it: certainly it did not point at the children in particular. -
Jonah looks very happy with life. Jesse is more "Excuse me I'm still tied up, is this one of those damned things where we stay out all night?"

Kodi: why is this forum quiet about it?
PossumCorner replied to Odin-Genie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Same here, had no idea. But Maddy's post does underline that you can't believe anything in the press or news broadcasts because the facts as reported generally bear no relation to the truth. And that even less should social media be a trusted information source. Trying to sift out shifty journalism and crackpot-book kneejerk posts is probably impossible. Double sad. Poor victim dog. -
Comment just reminded me of two I sidelined to delete - but here they are in the spirit of low light and me not thinking - calling these action blur is a cop out. They are funny little fellows, dust-bath like ponies, with a bit of Westie about them.
-
Sweet teekay. Some people would kill for an off-lead space like that.

Good that you were right onto it. I'm at the other end of the spectrum. Rheneas is 'about' 14, give or take a couple of months. And going through all the old-doggie syndromes - aside from diminished sight and hearing, the sense of taste flies out the window. Constantly need to stop him from wolfing down something he shouldn't that normally wouldn't even be sniffed at. Have to keep sheds closed and make the house kid-safe for him. Funny thing, he has always hated apples, was even offended if Piper and Frodo enjoyed a windfall apple. Now he is competing with the possums that come onto the deck for an apple handout, apple comes ahead of liver treats. "Been a tiring afternoon" - yes an 80k wasted round trip for something I'll have to do a 150k round trip in the other direction to pick up tomorrow. Full moon means the geese down the paddock are screaming at birds flying overhead on migration to warmer places - geese it is almost midnight, go to sleep.
