I;m going through the same thing with a 10 week old pup, and have just finished toilet training with a 9 month old. I know my 10 week old can only hold his bladder for about 20 minutes, so every 20 minutes I take him out. He also shows signs of when he is going to go- wandering off by himself. Pls, I take him out after sleeping, after eating and after a big drink. He sleeps in a crate at night so we are woken up when he needs to go through the night, but can generally hold for about 7 hours overnight. If he goes inside and I catch him, he gets told off in low, growly tones and carried outside. I put him down where he should go, then wait until he goes and give lots of praise. I would take away the newspaper, I think it would be confusing too-you are saying 'you can go outside, or you can go on the newspaper inside' rather than saying 'you are to go outside only'. it takes a while, and how long until he is reliable depends on how much you can watch him. If you are home alot and have an eagle eye, it shouldn't take too long because he will get reprimanded every time he goes inside, and praised outside. The more you miss the longer it takes. good luck!

Can Anyone Recommend Good Quality Kibble?
Lozzie replied to wolf82's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed Proplan and a raw diet to both my 9 week old greyhound, 9 month old whippet and 3 year old cat and they are all doing brilliantly on it. I have also heard Advance is excellent. -
My whippet matured very young- she is almost 9 months and can be puppyish at times but is alot more sedate than 3 months ago. I think by 12 months she will be an adult in behaviour, though probably a little more active still.

Its a pity about the backyard- my dog used to do the same when left inside (except luckily she would always pee on the lino) but if she is outside she is as happy as a pig in mud when we are not home, don't hear a peep from her and no SA. There is no way you could temporarily secure the backyard without costing you too much? Have you tried setting up toys for her? I was reading somewhere else that someone puts a treat under an icecream container with a weight on top, then they have to figure out how to get it out. Also, big smoked marrow bones are good, as are the treat balls. Also cardboard boxes ;)

How is he going Anne?
-
Anne I can't offer you any help, but I'm sending hugs to you and Murray (and what the hell, Jake too ;) ) :D I hope he feels better in the morning and it is just an upset tummy.

I really hope she pulls through for you, she sounds like such a sweet girl. I would have done exactly the same thing, so thanks for sharing that with us. Keep us posted on how she goes. Lauren

I put cocos food in with puppy milk, that way she has to drink the milk then get to the food and by the time she has had the milk she has slowed down a bit. The only other suggestions I have seen in other threads when I was researching this for myself (but haven't tried - the liquid idea worked the first time) is to raise the bowl, or put a few large rocks in, making it a bit harder.

Cheap Dry Food For Christmas $ Struggles
Lozzie replied to sugar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sugar, i get chicken frames from bilo - its about $1.20 for 5, or you can get trays of mixed chicken portions for about $2 - last time i bought 2 trays and got 1 maryland bit, 3 frames (2 with most of the breast attached!), a heap of wings and a few necks. You can also get the necks from there - a big tray for about $1. They also sell lamb flaps occasionally, and always have chicken liver and giblets. I have never got the chicken giblets though, I don't know what they are and whether they are any good for dogs since they have no bone -
Is she on heat?

I have a whippet pup who is costing pretty much nothing to feed at the moment - she is on a barf mix that i make up - it cost me about $8 to make 22 lots. She gets one lot of that a day, plus a chicken wing or carcass, plus a meaty beef bone. The carcass cost about $2 for 5, the wings are about $1.20kg. The meaty bones are $1 for about 12. She also gets supercoat - $8 a bag, but only has about half a cup a day. We bought royal canin but she won't eat it, i think they are too big for her liking so we will try her on it when she is older. And puppy milk as a treat. Plus occasionally she gets a weetbix with puppy milk or some vegemite on toast - about once a week max. So all up? About $1.50 a day

I think that maybe he wasn't willing to accept the fact that he should be waiting a little bit longer for his pups... -
I have puppy supercoat.. i don't know how the ingredients would vary from that to the adult one but let me know if you still want the ingredients. I have heard it is pretty good (for a supermarket food anyway)

Monty, my 15 year old chi was just put down. It was time, he had been struggling with athritis all the way down his back and back legs, as well as being deaf and going blind. The last few days the tablets weren't working. Goodbye Monny

Hi all, I used to work in a chicken shop and my job was bagging up the pet mince. Haven't tried it with coco yet, but we never had any complaints. There was one guy that used to come in and buy a few kilo bags for himself... By the way, slightly off track, i saw a thing on better homes & gardens the other night where there was an underweight dog with dr harry and he recommended a particular bit of meat that you get from the butcher, grill it and scrunch it up, and it acts as an appetite stimulant. Does anyone know what he was talking about? Cheers Lozzie
