[quote name='MissMonaro' date='18th Dec 2009 - 11:35 PM' post='4199981' We still have the 4 here. The 2 chocolate ones have just started to open their eyes. Our 2 little black girls are still hanging in there, but have now resorted to just bottle topping them up as they cannot compete with the chockies when they are on the milk bar. We try to feed them both seperately on their mother as much as possible. Our chock girl weighs as much as the 2 black pups together. Another visit to the vets today for the little ones. A course of antibiotics for both as one has a bit of an infection from a puppy nail scratch on the side of her face. We think that there immune systems are just not coping at the moment, so we really dont know if they will make it or not, but we're trying hard. I tried a small bowl of formula for one of them and she actually lapped at it but not enough to get a good feed, but it was a start and at least she showed some interest. Glad the little chocolates are doing well and really hoping your black girls pull through! Thinking of you heaps! Mine all have eyes open now and are starting to play which is so cute to watch! Now they are all up on their feet moving around, mum isn't too sure about getting in, I think she is afraid she will jump on them, so I have to encourage her in! Once she is in the whelping box though she is fine. I am just not sure if I went away for a few hours how she would cope. She does jump in sometimes while they are asleep. I am sure she would jump in to feed, but am a bit of a worrier, so am still sleeping beside the box and supervising! FUN & although pups are 2.5 weeks old still a bit sleep deprived!

Ho Ho...a few Christmas pics of puppies at 14 days old. They all have their cute little eyes open and are crawling around everywhere. I love it when they get to the stage where they wag their tails when you give them a cuddle!

Congratulations, hope they are all doing well. It is nice to read some good news after such devastating news recently!

As a breeder I like to keep in contact, for some it is a regular contact of email or photos, others let me know the puppy settled and that is about it, with maybe a photo at Christmas time, which is lovely. I always ring or email to find out how the puppy has settled and if they have any problems and let the people know that along with the puppy they have a lifetime of support from me. I try not to 'pester' them too often, but if I haven't heard from them for a while, I may send a friendly email asking how they & the pup are going. I have a folder on my computer and store all my previous puppies and new home info and photos in that and it is lovely to look back at from time to time and enjoy it. I would be very sad if I had a puppy buyer that truly did not want to correspond and keep me updated at all! Of course you own the puppy, but you got that puppy from someone who obviously loved it and wants to know of its progress! I think the least you could do is send an email and let them know you are busy, and if you do not want to keep in contact let them know so they can stop 'pestering' you. Sad, but at least the breeder will know where they stand!

Hopped on here this morning, to check how everyone is going and saw the sad news about LMWS's devastating loss. My thoughts are with you, can't imagine how you would be feeling right now, so very sad! Also MM so sad to hear about your little boy! My thoughts to you and your family, you must all be feeling sad after trying so hard for 2 weeks to keep him going. Hope the rest of the litter are all thriving and you are getting a bit more rest now!

Addicted2gold - those photos are absolutely gorgeous. You should make this into a Christmas Card.

All the best with it all - may you have a safe delivery of puppies! Don't know where the whelping fairy is - she missed both Chopperlodge and I on saturday night and Sunday??? The whelping fairy was pretty busy earlier in the week Wed/Thur, so maybe she had a few days off. Hopefully for everyone expecting litters soon, she is well rested and back on task. LOL :D

I think I have had the same problem with my little guys, but I am pretty sure it is sorted out now (Day 7). We had a few unsettled days and I was unsure whether it was the heat or stomach pain from too much milk. It lasted 2 days and now they are quite settled. I would just be patient, make sure mum is toileting them enough, and hopefully her milk production will settle down. Definitely don't express it will cause her to produce more milk. Most of my pups had doubled their birth weight yesterday (day 6) and I am pretty sure the few that had'nt will have today, they are putting on average between 75 - 100 gr per day!

Beautiful pups MM! Is mum taking over the role of cleaning yet?

Here is a photo of my little fatty boombah litter at 5 days old. Also one of mum & little yellow boy, having a 'moment' together. So cute!

Sleep will come again!!! I got my first 4 hours between feeds sleep last night! I feel so much more normal this morning! Glad Scarlet is doing better.

What gorgeous puppies. The time does go very quickly doesn't it? Mine are 6 days old today and just growing so fast.
-
How cute are the beagle puppies! and the Goldies as well. Just adorable.

Thanks BB. I am pretty sure there is no palate issue. I have had a good look and feel and other than a little milk coming out of the nose she is perfect. She is settled and is putting on as much weight as the other pups. The mum does have a very good supply, although pups are feeding very frequently today, but it is very hot here!

Partipaws - Fantastic news that Gucci is a good mum. It does make things so much easier if they are naturals!!! Chopperlodge - I think you may be right about the little girl with milk coming out her nose. The mum does have lots of milk, and that little girl in particular does suck really hard, and when others come to steal her nipple she hangs on for dear life and sucks even harder! Have been keeping a close eye on her breathing and it is clear, no rattle in her chest, she is a bit snuffly straight after feeds though! My littlies are 5 days old today and they are all only 50 - 125g off doubling their birth weight! So mum is definitely a good producer! So I would think most by tomorrow will have doubled as they are gaining on average between 75 - 100 grams a day! They are definitely little piglets!
-
I think I read somewhere that it is good if pups double their birth weight by 10 days. I have found that most of mine do this, with the occasional slow one taking a bit longer up to 14 days. My last litter had all doubled their birth weight by 6 - 8 days. I don't worry too much about that, just make sure they are all gaining weight, and all seem vigorous and strong. It is nice to see that number on the scales though! My pups had a few noisy periods during a few days, I am pretty sure it was the heat, as they would all quiet & settle as it got cooler. Yesterday was a good day, they were very settled. They are 5 days old today!

Leanne, I am so sorry to hear of all the trouble you are having! I hope Scarlet improves very quickly and you can relax a little. I am still getting up to sit with my girl for her 2 hourly or so feeds, so feeling a bit tired, but she is doing a wonderful job of feeding and cleaning. I get up and make sure all get a teat, so they all feed at once and then sleep at once, better for me! I also have one little girl who keeps spurting a bit of milk out of her nose (not every feed, but quite often). Have checked to make sure she doesn't have a cleft palate and she doesn't. So keeping a close eye on her.

Great news partipaws. Glad she is home and recovering. Chopperslodge- your pups are gorgeous. The mum does look very relaxed in the photo. So glad for you both after your ordeals that the outcome has been a happy one. Now like me you probably won't get much sleep for the next few nights!!!!
-
Partipaws I really hope you hear good news about your girl very soon. Maybe she just needs a little more time to recover. Some take longer to recover from anaesthesia than others. She is definitely where she should be though! Thoughts are with you. Chopperlodge, I can empathise about your losing your foal. A few years ago, I had a foal that was only days old and had to have surgery and after doing everything we could for him, he didn't make it, so totally understand how devastated you must be feeling now! The puppies will definitely keep you very busy though and give you something positive to focus on.
-
Congratulations Partipaws! Chopperlodge, so sorry to hear about your foal. How sad! Glad your girl is doing well!
-
Congratulations Chopperlodge, glad she is ok, even though a Csection was necessay. You must be very relieved. Leanne, Scarlets babies are huge and look like they are doing very well indeed. My litter is a noisy one as well, I don't remember my other litters being this noisy! They are all putting on weight, some 125g in 24 hours, others about 50g. Partipaws, how is your girl going?
-
How are things chopperlodge & partipaws???? Looking forward to hearing about your new puppies. Congrats Rascal on such cute little bubs! Leanne, that must have been very stressful for Scarlet & even more so for you. Hope she recovers well. My bubs are doing well, although it is hot here and keeping them cool is proving a task, keeping mum cool as well. When I let her out for a toilet break yesterday, she went straight to the tank, where a leak has caused a nice mud puddle that the dogs love to hop in, so she has had to have a few hose off's before coming back in. She doesn't mind at all, very inconvenient though, because I have to dry her off really well before putting her in with pups. It does help keep her cool though! We had a another bout of crying pups (on & off - not constant) for a couple of hours yesterday. I am pretty sure it is the heat, they are all putting on weight, so don't think it is anything serious, I have just never experienced that before. At night they are much more settled because it is cooler I think. Good luck on your whelping guys, hope all goes well.

It is a bit cooler here today, but have put in frozen bottles wrapped in towels in a few different spots under the bedding. They are all sleeping well and seem settled. So all is good. Congrats KR on your litter of chocolates, hope all is well with them.
