Could someone please clear this up for me? Isnt RC and Euk super premiums? Im pretty sur they arent just premiums, I use RC, and it is $120 or so a bag, how could it not be a super premium? cheers

Thanks guys, I feel reasurred thanks to your comments, we will be keeping him on the RC, and look at the EP later on, I want to see what the RC does to him, which Im sure can only be good things, I went and looked at the PPlan bag, and it was 28% anyway, so it isnt that much difference, and the way I see it, is that if it wasnt healthy for a giant breed, it wouldnt exist, and be so popular etc, now, the main thing is that Bronson loves it, and is gutsing it, which he certainly didnt do with the proplan, and he has gone a day, I know, its only 1 day, but he hasnt thrown up once today! I will keep you posted to his progress. Sagittarian, where do you work, pm me if you like. Hi all, well I am back frm petstock, and think I have made a mistake, we ended up buying the RC giant junior, as they had osld out of the EP junior, and got home, opened it, fed Bronson, he loved it (75% proplan, 25% RC, for the switch over, I sat down for a real read of the bag, and it has 32% protein, is this way too much??? farout, am I ever going to get it right? BTW, he weighed 20.1 kg, and he is exactly 17weeks, 2 days today. Is this too much protein for a giant puppy? thanks guys from Jodie

cheers for that Kitkat, finally I am understanding, thanks to the advice. Nope, we cant get puppy here, Ive asked, which is really what I want to get him onto. I have also heard big things about nutrience, and have looked at the euk just now, and it is just the same as proplan, really, well, not much difference. Does anyone know where I can get nutrience from, and is it a premium, or super premium, and is there much difference really to sp and prem.? Can I get it from petstock? just out of curiosity also, cause everywhere you go, you get a different view, I know, but why do they have a specific breed puppy food, if it has too much protein for the growth of the dog? I think I may if unable to get him onto nutrience, then just switch him over to RC junior, even though its a tad early. if he is going to stop retching etc from the gutzing of his food, all the better, I spose. by the way, he is a dogue de bordeaux, and should weigh upwards of 50 kgs as an adult, currently 18kgs give or take at 16 weeks. once again, cheers guys for the advice. from Jodie edited cause I dont know how to spell the breed name of my puppy ::

Hi Just questioning, can you or cant you suppliment with the premium foods, we are on proplan, switching to either iams, or EP, will have a proper look when i get to petstock this arvo, but read this: http://www.eukanuba.com/en_AU/jhtmls/nutri...en_AU&bc=E&pti= I couldnt possibly live on biscuits 24/7 and wouldnt expect my dog to, either, so Im not sure what to do. Of course, I want him on a super premium, but here it is saying dont add cause of the balance, and I have been on the pro plan, which is tiny little biscuits, which get caught in his wrinkles (his jows ?sp?) with added mutton, barf patties, egg, cheese, etc (not all at once lol) Im after a larger, must chew dry, so he gets his digestive system going with the chewing, not just gulp, gulp, swallow, no breakage of the bics, which is what is happening at the mo, and it seems royal canin has the biggest bics, but cant get them here in the puppy, only the junior, and he is only 5 months, not the recommended 8. Im so confused to what to do, we dont have huge dogfood places here, only petstop, which is a drive, but worth it.

Lillysmum, I am also a shelter worker, with the awl, my dog is microchipped, he is registered, both with the council,and petregister, and is an indoor dog. Really! I am after advice, and the only one so far who has given me advice, and not their "opinion" is: Sirmonsta,Blackfoot and jelly, who I thank, so far not many has opinionated the anti for early desexing in relation to maturity and growth, only those saying, to desex him cause its the right thing to do, I am not an irresponsible person who owns a dog, you know, I do know how to raise a dog, which is undesexed, even though I am not a breeder, and Im sure that some breeders dogs can also get out and spread their seed. I also agree that there are many irresponsible dog owners out there, and see it in the shelter, but please, dont assume that all pet owners are the same and like I said already, why would I spend thousands on a dog, only to not let him amture as he should by desexing early? I realise this, but I have been told by 4 seperate breeders of my breed that my breed simply must not be desexed before 12-18 months because they simply will not grow to their optimum if desexed early. I understand the health reasons for and against desexing at all, and my male WILL be done when he reaches maturity. But I am after evidence, and havent found any information to say that desexing my giant male will enable him to "spread" as he is supposed to, only if he is desexed, he wont grow properly. I refuse to pay thousands of dollars for a dog, only to not have him grow properly if desexed before his maturity, it doesnt make sense why one would.

cheers for that, and very interesting. I am wishing to know, also the pro's of delaying desexing for the bone structure etc of the skull in a giant breed dog as is mine. I already understand the growth of the bone plates in the leg, but would like to hear more in regards to the skull. I totally agree, but need some arguing points to use, please.

I dont have any intention of breeding my boy, I am just planning on waiting to desex him a little later, as I have already said, to allow him to fill out, I volunteer at the awl, so I know all about pounds, and the dogs that end up there, and would love to have to stop volunteering, cause there is no more dogs to go there, but this isnt the issue, the issue is that I am still desexing him, just later. Ok, sorry to rehash an old thread, but what about the head? I have been advised to get my dog desexed at 6 months, he is a pet, but then got told by another that his head wont fill out properly and that they need the testosterone to do that, I am all for the second breeder, cause this is our 2nd dog, and with our first, the breeder said the same as the second, now, why would he say something entirely different 4 years later? hope this makes sense.. better explanation:: dog1 breeder says dont desex until 18 months or so because he wont "Fillout" properly.... dog 2 now breeder is saying he should be desexed at 6 months. We are very responsible owners, dog 1 NEVER got near a female, and died a virgin We would like to wait for him to be at least 12 months if possible, jsut to allow for him to fill a bit, 18 mnths preferrably, please note, he will be a virgin then, also GUARANTEED, as ours are complete house dogs, anyway, except loo etc. I want to keep him entire for his breed need the testosterone to fill out his head, and also for the bone plate thing, and yes, 1 or 2 cms or howmuch extra he can grow, can make them look different, as they are meant to be fairly low anyway, to a certain extent, considering their mass. Also, just because he is a pet, doesnt mean that we want him to be a good example of the breed, we pet owners also like to have good looking dogs too. so, to me, it does matter what desexing will do to his growth. We had a franchise (biggest lawn mowing one) and it is something I would NEVER do again, they promise the earth, and give you NOTHING, they take your monthly fees, and run, even when we decided to sell, they didnt try, advertise etc, to sell for us, like they are supposed to, and we ended up GIVING it to them, cause we had lost most of our customers once we gave it to them to look after, we had a job shift, and the terms are that we get them to find someone to work our round for us till its sold, and they just passed the customers around till we had nothing to sell, anyway. As a customer, we had a private bloke, cause we couldnt find anyone, there is no advertising here, so we got who we could find, I think, if you advertise heaps, you are more than likely to get people, I would definately get a private person to take after my animals anyday.

Boxagirl, We were told to use satin balls to make cooper put on weight, when he was sick, and before we knew it was cancer making the weight fall off him. I also fed him puppy food to try to get him up.

Hello There is a product out, that we are going to try, cause our puppy (11 week old dogue de bordeaux) is a little fussy also, after his first meal of raw meat, he is now not happy with his proplan, and has appeared to have gone off it, in favour of the raw only. Iams Puppy Savory Sauce Country Style Chicken Flavor Has anyone tried this yet? cheers Jodie

Hello I am soo sorry to have to read this. Your baby will appreciate that she had so many great years with you, and will be sitting at the bridge fully contented, waiting for you to visit her, with her tail wagging at full speed. We had cooper cremated, and the vet arranged for the AWL here in SA to pick him up, and a couple of days later, he arrived in a beautiful ceramic blue urn, which is now on our cupboard, and comforts us. Howdy David When cooper was crook (saddly, he passed over the weekend, which was the worst thing in the world, and I cant talk about it yet) but when he was sick, I had a natropath come out to see him, and she got him in (one day too late, mind you, but it could help you guys) a powder called bovine cartelidge, she said that it is proven that taking it shrinks tumors. You can get it from most natural remedy shops, if they dont have it, then they will get it for you, it is around the 40 mark. she was also going to perform REIKI ?SP? on him to relieve any pain. Hi David We have a dogue de bordeaux with lymphoma, and was given a week, two at the most last saturday, there is no hope for him though, Please see about the oncologist, it may help, I think the empty feeling is the greiving process, we have it here, we have a feeling that he is already gone, and you cant help but think what it is going to be like when he isnt. He is permantely inside, cause he has trouble sometimes breathing, so we like to have him close in case, and it was a complete shock to us, too. We have been told that we will know when it is time to take him in, to see the vet for a final time, but that is the hardest thing, knowing that we have to make that trip very soon, and it just simply isnt time. We have been making sure that our dog is really having a great time this final week, taking him to his favourite places, and giving him his favourite foods etc, and making sure that he is comfortable, it is all we can do to say thank you for being such a great pal for the past 4 years. Please join the other sites, especially the canineswithcancer2 site, they are fantastic over there, full to the brim with advice, as their dogs are all cancer sufferers also.'
