Bozley's Angel replied to Steve's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow, I'm very humbled to be on this list Congrats to the other 5 nominees (if you're here on DOL) I am due to have my first human baby in 5 days, otherwise I would have been keen to make the awards ceremony in Sydney... hope everyone who attends has a fabulous night, celebrating all the nominees achievements Dani -
I have a point and shoot camera that cost under $200 a couple of years ago so the quality isn't as good as some of you guys here. These are my favs though (for content) - Me and Boz not long before he passed away this year... My OH and Boz on the same day... This was a special day for us and I'm glad we got some pictures to remember it by. Dani

K9 Force Workshop In Adelaide
Bozley's Angel replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I live in Alice Springs but if you got Steve to Adelaide I'd consider flying down if airfares were reasonable at the time.... Dani -
Raw meaty bones would be my suggested alternative.

I'd go straight away if the lump is anywhere near the lymph glands, Harley's first symptoms of lymphoma was a small lump in her neck. If untreated lymphoma can be fatal in less than 4 weeks, it's probably not that, but if it is you need all the time you can get. Dani
-
I would probably disagree with that... last year I had one healthy dog and one dog dying of cancer. They were both exposed to the same environment (loads of fleas after a bunch of rain) and only my sick dog got a flea problem. I asked the vet about it and she said like any parasite fleas will infest the weakest animal available. Sorry thats a bit off topic about the raw feeding thing but interesting all the same I thought. Hi Chelby, I know all the emotions you are going through, and I'm sorry you have to deal with this disease. I have a dane with lymphoma here at the moment... It is nearly three months since diagnosis and she is on a mix of Pred and Chlorambucil (chemotherapeutic tablets). I know some people are against chemo but Harley has not had one side effect from her treatment (other than neededing to pee more from the pred). Her quality of life has been normal throughout. She is also undergoing regular blood tests to measure the effectiveness of the treatment against the cancer and so far so good. Think hard about it and do what you know is best for you and your dog, and enjoy every day/week/month you have left. Lymphoma is just so unfair Dani

Harminee...now you are just spoiling me! (And I love it ) Thank you so much for both the new wallpapers you did of Harley...they are great! again, so much. Dani

Oh Harminee...I love the two you've done for me.... and to pick up on the poem, and that I call her my girl Harley...you are great at this. Seriously, I am almost crying...I can't thank you enough I am really lost for words, thank you for giving up your time for me and for taking so much care to do them well... Dani

Ok brilliant people... I was wondering if you could do anything with any of these pics of my Harley girl. I don't mind which one/s as I love them all. I would like to have one that I could possibly get printed and framed also as she is my very special girl who is going through chemo at the moment to treat her lymphoma diagnosed 6 weeks ago Anything anyone can do would be so greatly appreciated Dani

Wow thanks guys, I need to look into this in case there is a chance my baby can continue her walks and trips around town. I have been really cautious because the vet had told me that her fluids were toxic and I wanted to be responsible of course. Off to do more reading I guess... Dani

Firstly let me say I know all the emotions you are going through, and I'm sorry you have to deal with this disease. I have a dane with lymphoma here at the moment... she is on a mix of Pred and Chlorambucil (chemotherpeutic tablets). It is six weeks since her diagnosis and she has had not one side effect from her treatment (other than neededing to pee more from the pred). She is undergoing regular blood tests to measure the effectiveness of the treatment and so far so good. Do what you know is best for you and your dog, and enjoy every day/week/month you have left with your dog. Dani PS. Jed, my dog had a C5 vaccination in January this year, diagnosed in August. I do not believe in vaccinating adult dogs but our circumstances (moving interstate, needing to board the dogs etc) meant that we had to do it. I had my other dane done at the same time. Mine are also on monthly heart and intestinal worming tablets. PS again. Ptolomy I have been told that while my dog is on chemo drugs she is not to be taken outside our property because her urine, faeces and bodily fluids like saliva are toxic to humans, notably pregnant women and children as the drugs attack rapidly dividing cells. How come the dog you know of can be taken out to do agility? With the cost of the treatment it sounds like that dog may be undergoing IV chemo, whereas my dog is on tablets - would that be the difference? Not havng a go at anyone, just curious as I would love to have my dog out and about again but will never get to do it because of the risks to others. It's such a shame as she did love getting out for walks etc.

What To Feed My Great Dane
Bozley's Angel replied to Carla2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Whever had your girl is an idiot.... not from Box Hill, Sydney is she?? Diet is familiar. Go easy on the dry food until she settles in. Being on a rubbish diet and going to a premium quality one can give them a very queasy belly until her body adjusts. Feeding chook mince and minced vegies will be fairly gentle on her stomach. Depending on her overall size (how much does she weigh and depending on her type.. German being heavier set/American being finer and somewhat lanky) will determine how much she should be fed. My Dane is tall for a bitch but she's also quite fine boned ... though she eats approx 2kg of fresh mince and vegies a day. Definitely would love to see pics! My danes are from Box Hill Sydney and I have never been advised to feed weet-bix, milk or bread. To the OP my danes are fed a natural diet of meaty bones and organs from beef, lamb and chicken with additions such as vegies, eggs, fish, acidophilus, and the occasional treats of peanut butter, cream cheese or dried liver treats. In terms of quantities just use the way the dog looks...if they're getting too heavy then ease off a little on the meals, too thin then you can add more. We choose to feed ours morning and night and we choose to feed and water off elevated surfaces. (you will get varied opinions on this in the dane world) If I were to feed any kibble (but havent for 2 years) I would most probably go with either Bonnie or Supercoat. Hope that helps... Dani -
Can I Feed My Dog (raw) Lamb Shanks?
Bozley's Angel replied to squeak's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Agree with haven - my dogs are too big for lamb shanks, turn your back for one second and they are chewed into a million little slivery pieces - I don't risk it. However I can see that they would be exceptional teeth cleaners for little dogs! Dani -
What about just a little earlier, say 9.30am and we can get in a good hour or so then....paws in the park starts at 11am so that would work well, what do you reckon? Oh and do you mind if I invite another friend with a 7 month dane puppy, we have been trying to catch up for a play for ages!!?!?!? Dani

What time this Sunday Alison?? I do want to go to paws in the park as well but might be able to get down to there too Dani

Bozley's Angel replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Guys, Well I have had computer problems all week so haven't been online. Tonight we finally get it going and I had to wade through 215 emails :p But you can imagine it was worth it when I found the one from Steve telling me that our photo was one of the winners!! Thanks to those who made some lovely comments about our kids. Gotta love those danes - they can have lamb for breakfast tomorrow for doing such a good job at training and for being so photogenic :D Well done everyone for your pics - I had a great time going through and looking at all of them. I LOVE the training in drive pics, they are some great "action" shots! I know this sounds like an acceptance speech but let me have my moment.... Finally...to Steve, we had tried 2 different obedience classes - one awful and one pretty good, but still the results weren't there. We had tried numerous collars. I had read books and internet articles and tried so many different training methods and you have no idea the relief we felt after our session with you, helping us to understand our dogs and thus train them so simply and effectively. We were never made to feel dumb or judged for methods we had tried and failed. Quite the contrary we came away feeling confident and motivated. Our dogs still have a LONG way to go, training has only just begun, but we have goals now that we feel are actually attainable... Our dogs were never a "nightmare" to us and of course everyone loves them... but I am so happy with the bond that we have begun to develop with them through proper training. Anyway everyone here knows how happy our dogs can make us, and Steve you have really helped us to make this soooo much better than it already is! ;) Ok - I will stop now. Well done again everyone and just coz the comp is over don't stop posting your training pics! PROMISE! Dani -
Slowly but surely our dane learnt the "leave it" command - he can rest his face on our bench tops in the kitchen and dining table but he will not go near a plate or dish once he hears the leave it command, and now we rarely have to say it at all. Of course to teach it you have to be around them all the time at first when anything is left out. Dani Just realised that it is different with danes because they don't have their paws up. Sorry leave it probably won't cut it when the dog is ON the table!!!
