How small were you after? I'll see what I can dig up ;) Well not that small but bunnings only had huge ones. You know the Pen that the Whippets were in at the show??? It's for that - will show you on Saturday Thanks Pebbles ;)
-
Yeah that's them Pebbles. Bunnings claim to not sell them separately and had nothing similar in a firm spring in a small enough size. We are limited in our choices in Darwin for stores..
-
It's less than two months away! Super excited!
-
I am trying to find medium size firm springs that comes with the pens - apparently they only sell with the kits according to bunnings

Try stacking him back to front, so set and steady the back legs and then place the front and see if it confuses him. One of mine is dumb and I just stack her in reverse and she forgets to lean.

Training on Sunday
-
More like take him along to challenge the Child Handlers, or the "you think your dog is nuts? Try this one" category! Could show people their dog really isn't that bad hahaha

Hey there, Just a quick one to let any lurking locals know that I will be holding Show Training/Child Handler Training at the Winnellie Show Grounds on Sunday 23rd January from 10am. Normal Regulations apply in regards to dogs being onlead at all times as well as registered and vaccinated. Feel free to pass this far and wide to anybody. Hoping this will become the first of many sessions to encourage some of the young and young at heart to take up and continue with this hobby!

Why Do You Like The Kinds Of Dogs You Do?
-Megz- replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am in this frame of mind most of the time. I have had several dogs from RSG and their attitudes fit in with me to a tea. Denis the Pug was manic and crazy and just the perfect amount of affection and loyalty to boot. Clarke is much the same, a complete independent air head with a touch (big touch) of crazy but will respond well to me and is a smoocher too. I have had a lot to do with various breeds and haven't hated any, I haven't lived with them all but have travelled with them and have found none to be up your nose 100% and they have awesome quirks. In saying that, I am enjoying having Brock the Beagle at home with us, he's a totally in your face dog, he is smart and learning very quickly, has the stubborn streak well and truly down to a fine art and is going to be fun to work with. There are very few breeds I have seen and will avoid. -
Mine arrived and Brock took to them like a pro and is already stopping in a stack on the ground... No doubt at the show it will be well different hehe
-
Thanks Megz, I will chat to you at the next show. Hopefully you have them by then and have had a chance to use them so you can tell me whether or not they are worth it. I think they will be. I think they may have arrived today - I had something in the mail last week about a parcel waiting for me.
-
As soon as I put him on the table he generally sits down as I am trying to stack him. He already has a lovely stack, I just thought maybe if I trained him on the stackers he wouldn't be able to sit down!!!! If he sits down on the stackers he will fall, therefore after a couple of times on the stackers he would learn to stand up and once you get him standing nice and still on the stackers in theory he should stand on the table no worries Wouldn't it be easier to teach him a 'stand' cue? There's more positive ways of getting a stand than making a dog fall. Teach him 'stand' on the ground then add the table! He stands very nicely on the ground already. It's not like he would fall metres to the ground as I would be standing there with him, it would be more like just slipping off the stacker. I do appreciate your comments but i feel like you are critising me and making out that it would be cruel for me to use the stackers. :p Suit yourself. Dogs aren't silly though. I fail to see how using the stackers means he won't fidget once you remove them. The idea of the show stacker is to encourage a correct stack, the dog has no choice but to stand were they are placed or the become unbalanced. Having seen them used the dog will then correct and put the foot back on the leg of the stacker. It's not as though they fall off they simply attempt to take a step, be it a slight step forward to be able to sit or what have you, and then finding nothing but air will move their leg back to were they know there is "land"

I have just bought a set if you want to give them a try when they arrive?
-
yes indeed .... and in some cases awards should be given for stamina at the number of shows attended :D I would be at a show everyday if it were possible ;)

Just because someone knows or can see the other side of an argument does not mean that they are breaking the rules. I tend to think I am fairly open minded and leave my rose coloured glasses at home. I know people cheat, I know there are many ways for people to cheat. I have NEVER cheated. I respect a great many of the people in this thread that your comment is no doubt aimed at, just because they see the other side does not make them unethical

When Buying From A Registered Breeder Poll 1

^^ As above -
Big Congratulations to all the winners for last years Dogzonline Pointscore The dogs are a real credit to their Breeders, Owners and Handlers

Temporarily, for sure. Showing with hormonal implants is one issue that still needs a decision one way or the other. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh, and don't forget the vasectomy. Vasectomy and fake implants are two very real alternatives that allow for dogs to be shown after being castrated.

But the only way he can enter a ring again after desexing is if his nuggets have been replaced (against the rules) or entered as a neuter. I think you missed the point I was making. The arguments about a desexed dog not following the traditions of showing by being unable to reproduce is null and void when it comes to males who can have semen taken. If those arguing for reproduction being key to showing then they should also concede that a male with semen stored then desexed can still be bred from and therefore should be allowed to show. Obviously I understand rules don't allow that but for the above argument should they not be changed to reflect the wonders of semen storage  the rules are there to be followed, if people with desexed dogs want to show they are the ones that should be pushing for changes, most people don't care, you would have to change every breed standard and don't think that will be happening. Again with the harping on about the rules, I have clearly said that I understand the rules. I am just pointing out that males can be reproduced from. I don't need to be told about what the rules are Again. Can you explain why it is only bitches that are being targetted by the questions? It's just as big of an issue with males being shown once desexed yet they are being completely left out.

I assist with the showing and breeding of several breeds. Papillon - show one now but they have been bred and shown in the past Italian Greyhound - show two, no breeding planned Jack Russell Terrier - none shown or bred now but one still owned Pointers - 4 adults plus litter of 10 puppies (anyone interested?? ) 2 adults shown and at least one puppy will be kept to show Beagle - 3 adults plus a litter recently 2 adults shown and 2 babies kept from litter to show Whippets - several adults, a litter 6 months ago with puppies sold/being sold to pet homes, some shown Japanese Spitz - one adult left, old girl not shown The breeder of the above has also had German Shepherds, Dobermanns, Irish Setters, Lhasa Apsos, Staffordshire Bull Terrier... Not all at the same time but over the last few decades... I wouldn't think twice about getting advice or guidance from this person and also have one of her pups Agree with the above, it always depends on the motives and the set up of the person.

So in terms of the breeding argument and breeding stock etc. What about a desexed male that has had semen taken and stored? There is nothing stopping this male from reproducing after being desexed.
