  1. to me it looked like a pointer/retriever type breed not a bull breed at all. I based that on the length of its head, ears, (large and floppy) length of its legs and built for running body, then add the typical pointer particolout patching. (click on the photo and it opens up without all the dark lines and can clearly see how light built it is) and TALL! Be interesting to find out which it actually was. I well remember our schools did regularly have people come around with a dog and teach the class how to behave and not behave when confronted with a strange dog. HIGHLY common when there were no laws whatever about dogs being confined to their owners yard. I think the only one was you could shoot any dog that come onto your land and attacking your stock, just make sure it didn't get to cross your fence before it died otherwise then could be charged. (in Bankstown in the 1950' many had 2 acres for veg garden, orchard and stock, my grandfather had draught horses, many of my friends had goats for their milk. most of the homes now under the Bankstown Square and its carpark were 2 1/2 acres, one of them was my grand parents, they all once had bomb shelters too. except the water table was so high they kept filling with water, so my grandfrather put his boat in it so the wood didnt shrink when he brought it home from the river after fishing ), Bankstown Library was built on a swamp. how times have changed
  2. this has been a problem for decades, one , well a number of vets have been my friends for decades. the mental health problems cause by the things Tdierikx are spot on and have been for a very long time, It is not a new problem although the present problems are increasingly worse if that were possible. 25 years ago my daughter after doing work experience at vet practices realised she would never be able to cope with the stress the people she worked with were faced with every day. People want the best outcome for their pets yet abuse the vet when costs are high. There is no Medicare for pets, it its either you insure yourself , but abusing those caring for your pets is not acceptable. the overheads are frightening The stress escalates to overwhelming
  3. some kids are unreal. Friend had a birthday party and all the kids wanted to pat the ponies. all quiet friendly ponies. BUT one child was so desperate to pat them he was flinging his hands all over the place fast, reminded me of a human humming bird. for obvious reasons the ponies wouldn't come near him and were afraid. he was in tears. so the only solution was make him lie on the ground, hold his hands together and not move. then and only then did the ponies come up and nuzzle him . he was thrilled but had to keep reminding him to keep still. finally he understood he had to be still or he was frightening them. got him to hold his other arm at the elbow and hold it up and the ponies rubbed their faces on his hand. by then he had gained enough control of himself, I got him up and encouraged him to stay as still as possible and not flutter his hands. It took half an hour to teach that boy. he wasn't a baby he was 10 year old. He was a lovely kid but soo easily over excited.
  4. So now not even those doing the News , have a clue about body language? Even in the next room I knew it was only asking to play? Perhaps canine body language might need to be added to the education of people? Although since PETA believe they "will be extinct within this generation" perhaps will not be necessary? https://www.facebook.com/7NEWSsydney/posts/pfbid02Q98N4FDYTxLbe5qcWA6LGg1y8TDnXqAS938CXfM92LVcZJVDJWAuoWiUoYs6VDzjl?comment_id=858084342657832&notif_id=1667846216855214&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic&ref=notif The dog did not knock her down, she threw herself down ? Never forget the day a new neighbour came to visit with her two daughters. my two chihuahuas ran to them wagging their tails. To my amazement both began screaming just like that girl and grabbed their mothers clothes and tried to climb up their mother to get away from the "attacking dogs", Forgot. Mum began screaming too. The two Chi's took fright at all the screaming and ran and hid in the house.
  5. considering how popular they are its a small number of owners who cant cope and surrender them, I know of no one who has done that, they have stuck with them until old age won. I did find homes for my last three as I just was too upset seeing what my sister was going through with hers. So I did wimp it in the end. But friends were clamouring to get one so none went to rescue. Come to think of it never met one with mammary tumours, although one 18 month old pup had what I thought was a gum infection and turned out to be bone cancer, the whole jaw was involved so my vet put her down, he said sheer bad luck in his opinion. so many years ago now. Love the breed but cant face the thought of risking having one again
  6. Yes, I asked my vet why is it so hard to keep their teeth free of tarter, his reply, "they are bred with shockingly misaligned teeth. They are incapable of keeping their teeth tater free no how much you give them teeth cleaning chews. Has to be removed manually." as it is now to the point that " The number of diagnosed cases in cavaliers has increased dramatically since 2000. Researchers estimate that more than 95% of cavaliers have CM and over 50% may have SM. The severity and extent of syringomyelia also appear to get worse in each succeeding generation of cavaliers. It is worldwide in scope and not limited to any country, breeding line, or kennel, and experts report that it is believed to be inherited in the cavalier. )." That's not even without counting the incidence of MV. Its heartbreaking for such an adorable breed. "The incidence of myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is particularly high in some breeds such as the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (CKCS) with as many as 90% developing this pathology by the age of 10 years" The majority are on medication before 7, to think 20 years ago I had three lived to 14 and 17 MV free. my sisters 2 were diagnosed at 6 gone at 7 and diagnosed at 6 gone at 9. they have tried to compromise by getting a cavoodle this time, he's only 2 so time will tell.
  7. Ever WONDERED why you couldn't find an add you know is listed? that's just one breed. Yes a percentage can be found in more than one of the listings but many aren't. As well looking at the numbers the pounds should be full of them too since it amounts to in actuality 1,896 listings for Australia. this is just one website, gumtree, as we know there are many more. Dont think much of your chances of finding a cavalier at the pound, well not for long anyway. 191 Results: king charles cavalier puppies in Australia 231 Results: king charles cavalier in Australia 264 Results: cavalier puppies in Australia 318 Results: cavalier in Australia 124 Results: king charles spaniel in Australia 102 Results: king charles spaniel puppies in Australia 123 Results: cavalier king charles spaniel in Australia 101 Results: cavalier king charles spaniel puppies in Australia 243 Results: king charles in Australia 199 Results: king charles puppies in Australia
  8. There are a massive number of Cavoodle litters advertised in Gumtree fight now! Yet our pounds are NOT OVER FLOWING with CAVOODLE"s "94 Results: cavoodle in Sydney Region, NSW" there are "481 Results: cavoodle in Australia" . . . 481 Cavoodle litters "89 Results: moodle puppies in Australia . . . . 89 moodle litters "72 Results: maltese poodle puppies in Australia . . . 72 maltese poodle litters " 75 Results: labradoodle puppies in Australia . . .75 labradoodle litters? that's over 717 oodle x litters, and ive only done, Cavalier, maltese and labrador x's........... no way I'm going each individual add and adding how how many puppies in each litter But? why aren't our pounds full of oodle's???????? O! Goodness there's even more? 57 Results: bordoodle in Australia 56 Results: Poodle cross in Australia 84 Results: groodle puppies in Australia 66 Results: spoodle puppies in Australia 33 Results: toy spoodle in Australia Making a total of 1,013 oodle X listings under what names I can think of AUSTRALIA WIDE TODAY AS OF 2.00PM 7.11.22 Or border collies for that matter? 347 Results: border collie puppies in Australia 485 Results: border collie in australia Making a total of 1,845 border collie listings Australia wide as of 2.00pm 7/11/22 On the Am Staff listings There are "87 Results: american staffordshire in Australia" . . . . . 87 Litters of American staffordshire"s There are also "205 Results: american staffy in Australia . . . 205 Litters of American Staffy's 119 Results: american staffy puppies in Australia 49 Results: amstaff puppies in Australia 61 Results: american staffordshire puppies in Australia Making a total 521 am staff listings in Australia as of today 2.00pm 7/11/22 (and whatever other names they call them) Plus? discovered there are "11 Results: rednose in Australia" . . . . . 11 rednose litters in Gumtree that's bogan for red nosed pit bulls, I've heard that from so many proud owners of the unchipped unvaccinated "PURE RED NOSE, its the sign of their pit bull purity lady, but I want you to put AmStaff as its breed on the papers please." So? We all suspect the answer to that anyway. There IS A REASON the pounds are full of one types and not the the other's. They can be a real problem if not properly trained. Isn't that about when, "blame the deed not the breed" was coined? the oodles n the border collies? Might love u to death, even the untrained. not politically correct to notice though
  9. never bred dachshund's but have bred chihuahua's and when you get a long coat its a total lottery what kind of coat your going to get, long short, aka my brothers boy Chip, he had long fluffy pants on his back legs and down the backs of his front legs. big fluffy ruff around his neck and glorious fluffy tail and ears, the rest of him head and body were just slightly longer than a smoothcoat. Genie my girl was all longcoat all over her but it did lay flat. Once had a puppy born, not only longcoat but so fluffy my vet thought he was a purebred Pomeranian . Another girl Leia her coat was just like a Papillion, even had the long butterfly hairs on her ears. so perhaps there is as much variation in longcoat Dachshund's too?
  10. because they are wanted by so many, a bull breed at your side shows your tough, most of the puppies im asked to chip because it was sold not chipped is a bullie, usually an AM Staff/ pit bull, NOT that they want u to put pit bull, "its an Am Staff" why? because they are legal , and most when I ask for the immunisation certificate? nup dont have that either. tell they need to get it to the vet ASAP as it could already have parvo and be at risk of death is the only way to get them to take it to the vet. tell them their puppy breeder has broken the law and they cant get gone fast enough. which is fine by me, no immunisation card? no chip mate! Get to your vet. NOW! the true back yard breeder sourced puppies Although once the new 2 litters only per bitch come in, its only going to be back yard breds will be to be found and most of them will be bullies. well until the black market begins to catch up to fill the void
  11. CAP (Companion and Pets Party) has been busy https://twitter.com/companionandpet/status/1585391071148015616?s=20&t=e1D6gglru0gY07OuM8U_2Q
  12. heard an announcement on the news that 1 in 8 Australians are now living below the poverty level
  13. wow and tripple wow! I know my uncle Peter valued his Kelpies over his wife https://www.abc.net.au/news/rural/2022-10-21/record-kelpie-capree-eve/101560416?fbclid=IwAR3dA-ZalaMgfkwh9FM6da8Z94YX43CKYtLoAP0NjkZy4mAkjkUtP9V2c8w
  14. I was visiting my brother yesterday, he is a Peter Brock Fan and has two vintage Holden's. He saw a yellow Toyota Torana GTR identical to the first car he ever owned and decided he has to go back to his childhood and bought it. Soo at least one of the Holden's has to go. What on earth has that to do with dog's you ask? Well nothing in one way. BUT! Although the Brock Holden's always before, sold like hotcakes if one was for sale. Well that is until this year. He has discovered no one is buying now. I was told three years ago we are heading for a depression worse than the one my parents knew. I know someone else with a rare as hen's teeth Bathurst King of the mountain model Nissan GTR factory perfect low, low mileage valued at over half a million and has turned down numerous offers from here and from overseas. Decided to accept the last offer as needs to retire and needs the money. So what's happened to the offer too good to refuse? the potential buyer changed his mind the day the transfer was to go through and now advertised for sale, not one call? Neither from here or overseas, not a peep. Maybe, just maybe, people are beginning to realise and ceasing spending on all things? Apparently house prices are doing a dive as well If its true, we better buckle up for a rough ride. Although employment wise there are thousands of jobs vacant, business's are closing because they cant find staff? on Landline last night, they talked about what I have already seen, the hospital system is broken, so short staffed nurses and doctors are burning out trying to reduce the backlog waiting times. but when your missing 48 staff already and more resigning (the figures for Griffith hospital alone) but the city hospital's are in the same boat. apparently almost 3,000 nurses and doctors are waiting for visas' to be able to come here. The waiting time so far is 16 months? millions of tons of fruit are falling to the ground because there is no one to pick them. The next year's will see many changes that COVID was just the beginning I suspect
  15. forget what year they passed 1 Billion in investments. no misprint, been rspca Inc for decades now
  16. pay up for the rspca appoved logo or! Having gone out with two professional roo shooters, I can vouch out of an average of 150 per night. there were over ten roos for every sheep we saw any given night. The shooters never shot any but the biggest, so only fully adult males and only a very few of the biggest females. in a week and some 750 harvested they only made one mistake and found a tiny joey in the pouch, which yes, was killed immediately. The most chilling, was every roo was dispatched with a single shot just below n behind the ear, not one miss, not one didn't drop dead on the spot. Think on that! Never want a roo shooter to decide to go berserk like the so called Strathfield massacre all those decades ago. no one would have been left alive. Had nightmares for months when I realised the implications. No wonder aussie men from the land were such deadly snipers in WW1 and WW2. Makes you wonder what butchers the NPWS are sending out to gut and neck shoot the brumbies left to bleed to death in Kosiosko national park? RSPCA APPROVED INCIDENTLY?????????????????? Another couple would bring in 250 a night, they only worked three days a week, they said the tax man got the rest if they brought in more. The size of all brought in was from big to massive. as both said, waste of a bullet on the medium and smaller. So? the farmers hand over their cull tags and the shooters get the meat price from the processers. The farmers? still stuck with thousands of fertile females and young fertile males to keep the population up to grow and mature until they catch up in weight and size to qualify for the harvesters mental scales. I think the farmer is the loser no matter how you look at it. pays for the property, the rates and cannot harvest the meat being grown on his land if it hop's! There's more of them than the cattle and sheep. once they have stripped the paddocks or crops the fences are nothing to them as they move on to better pastures. In times of drought? All starve but the domestic stock then have to fight the roo's for the hay and pellets. My hubby has our cattle trained for the drought times. he drives into the paddock to where the cattle can see the truck then he puts out a bucket for for each of the cattle that they can eat quickly as well he stands between them and the roos as they arrive. as for crops? forget it unless its a bumper year and too much for them to destroy it all. Living beside a national park is a nightmare Those who can get the finance these days are boundary fencing with roo/deer exclusion fences
  17. Yes, the vaccinations only work for a small percent of kennel cough pathogens they still get the others, sigh
  18. look awfully like the ones that eat all the roots off my strawberries?
  19. interesting, there are figures to be found. in 2019-2020 financial year. From the Australian population of 25.69 million (2020) In 2020: More than 1 in 2 (54% or 70,000) recorded assaults were related to family and domestic violence (excluding Victoria and Queensland), a 7.8% increase from 65,000 in 2019. Almost 2 in 5 (37% or 82) recorded murders were related to family and domestic violence (ABS 2021).7 July 2022 Note it states these figures are (excluding Victoria and Queensland) no idea how to find out what they are considering the population in both these states? the actual figures for all states could be double. True that the majority of pet owners dont like or trust their own species, by the above figures, with good reason. (But do we want all humans extinct to solve the problem?) Complaints lodged with RSPCA ACT NSW QLD SA TAS VIC WA TOTAL Investigated 1,304 14,425 18,260 4,139 2,171 10,745 6,866 57,910 There were, 304 Successful rspca prosecutions. The same year there were 396 domestic violence victims of homicide and related offences including murder, attempted murder and manslaughter. So? no hysteria about stamping out domestic violence comes even within cooee of the never ceasing calls to protect our pets from the assumed mass of abusers? DV website, first thing it does is warn you how to erase your browsing history for this site in case your partner accesses your computer? the stats are staggering even though these figures are for the USA, same applies round the world https://www.thehotline.org/stakeholders/domestic-violence-statistics/
  20. spotted on face plant. This woman created PETA on 22nd March 1980. She has worked tirelessly for all that 42 years to achieve the extinction of our dogs and cats, as well every other domestic species is on their agenda for extinction. every other animal rights group has the same agenda even if they do not realise they are part of peta agenda. The question now is it too late for the few who have woken up that the end is almost achieved and so far there is only one group who have realised this, has formed a political party to fight for our companion animals. I just never fail to be amazed how blind pet owners have been to the agenda of "we must eliminate puppy farmers" had nothing to do with protecting our dogs and cats but all about sending them extinct, even now so few understand that is the net result of strangulation laws that have been passed. Everyone is so keen to make laws to "protect our pets" and assume everyone else is a potential cruelty case? Yet remaining blind to the real agenda is the intended future is NO PETS! ALL extinct? I know of no one who wants a future with no pets, when will they wake up before its too late the decades of of harsher laws is not for the benefit of our animals at all? Reminds me of the quote Alma at Kelvinator had on her office wall. All the world is queer save thee and me, and even thou art a little queer. YET! Where is the zeal to protect targets of domestic violence? more than one a week is killed year in year out? "There were 370 victims of homicide and related offences – which includes murder, attempted murder and manslaughter – recorded in Australia in 2021. This was a decrease of 7% (26 victims) from the previous year." Even though so many think animal cruelty happens on a massive scale the facts are the rspca prosecute a fraction of that number! Where is the will to create stronger laws against domestic violence? The human race is a very strange species
  21. considering how few seem to realise whats going on? barring a miracle they are on track and its not "this generation" of people, its this generation of pets lifetime they were talking about so only 10 to 20 years max left!
  22. no sorry did copy this for you. Post-leggedWhen there is insufficient angle between the tibia and cannon bone (hock) and tibia and femur (stifle), the increased stress on tendons and ligaments can cause bog spavin, bone spavin, and osteoarthritis in the hock. This type of hock is easily injured during hard work because of strain on the flexor tendon and upper part of the suspensory ligament. Locked stifles may also occur, as the straight stifle joint causes the patella (kneecap) to slip out of position, ‘locking’ the leg. As it travels, the post-legged horse tends to stab its hind feet into the ground at each stride, leading to cracked hooves, bruised soles, and other hoof problems related to excessive concussion.
  23. you are forgetting the rebels who are ankc members and who refuse to select for the show ring if its detrimental to their dogs. ie whelping problems, and or diverging from the breed as they knew it. trouble is these rebels tend to be the ones targeted by those I came to think of as the "thought police."
  24. I feel it brought to light the sad fact show people morph their chosen breed in the chase to win at the expense of the breeds health and well being, labeling the changes as "improving" the breed. Those who tried to point out this not not fair on the animals were ignored. At best. Labled as puppy farmers and persecuted to resign their membership at worst. The message being, walk to the same beat or get out before your pushed. Sadly that doco was the only thing to bring it to the attention of the world in the worst possible way, but many pet owners were already very unhappy with the changes happening, it is so strange that the show breeders seem unable to understand morphing, is not "improving" . as for the breeder who told me she "would never keep second best just because it had no hernias, when they are not a disqualification and anyway, I doubt you will find a hernia free cavalier within 10 years!" Because of her attitude all her dogs had hernia's? Ok she had many generations of champions, But how on earth is that maintaining the breed? so many breeds today are riddled with hernia's because so many have the same attitude. That's just one that the show scene ignores to the detriment to the quality of life of the individuals they breed. Meanwhile oblivious to the pet owning public being appalled at how hard it is to find a puppy without the problem. so many things in pups bred for the show scene the pet people dont want to see in their pup. The show world was already alienating people long before Pedigree dogs exposed went to air. The list is long, is enough time left to rectify? at lest its not just dogs the show scene has morphed President Roosevelt, Persian cat (tabby), 1945 Although my uncles were white, not tabby, their faces side on were the same as the cat above. in the face's on photo below, they seem shorter? Ear size was the same as the cat above as well. I suspect the white and red are kittens, hence the different appearance due to their age. my uncle bred Persian cats like these in 1950 this painting dates 1891 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_cat#/media/File:Carl_Kahler_-_My_Wife's_Lovers.jpg the modern Persian cat has no muzzle the 2007 standard interpretation. resulting in.... It was also shown that with the greater reduction of the facial bones, deformation of the neurocranium also increases 10 . The question arises, as to whether the profound phenotypic modification of the skull is part of a physiologic spectrum of skull phenotypes in the Persian breed or rather reflects pathologic skull development. ..." probably same problems to be found in the dog breeds who have lost their muzzles too. Horse breeds are being morphed too resulting in soundness issues in many forms. this was the beginning of the halter qh https://hoovesblog.com/2014/02/11/the-bad-and-the-ugly-halter-horses-2/comment-page-1/ this is the accumulated result. it sold for I believe $100,000 ? thats just one equine breed example. selecting for hyper mobile joints in the warmblood has led to another type of disaster. Wonder when the 'PEDIGREE species exposed " will be going to air?
  25. as for the present mindset of dead end kennels, its been a long progression to the mess we are witnessing today. It began with the establishment of peta , took me a while to learn of their existence but the time line fits, along with after meeting some members, I realised where the "we have to get rid of puppy farmers" came from. My ankc breeder friends began parroting it in the 80's and by 1990's many were busy dialing the rspca and council rangers to dob in any member they decided were puppy farmers in the hope the harassment and stress would elicit a prosecution, in which case they could then report to the ankc and the targets membership cancelled. Most resigned to escape the harassment. The timing was perfect as the attitude of the rspca was subtly at first, then radically changing to the ruthless pursuit of profit that is now rspca inc we now have to contend with. No ankc's countered the avalanche of awful photos of skeletal bitches with puppies sucking the life out of them that is supposed to be the fate of any bitch bred from , let alone more than one litter a year. the landslide of laws to "eliminate puppy farms" has done exactly the opposite? Instead only puppy farms that can afford the costs, but in all this time no definition of what is a puppy farm has ever been done. Meanwhile those left has declined by the thousands annually. The end is pretty close if even Peta went public in 2021 that they anticipate "the extinction of the domestic dog and cat within this generation". with plans to eliminate all domestic animals. That has been the agenda for over 30 years. The pet owning public and every one involved with pets has been deaf and blind to the unfolding agenda. what may prevent the anticipated "extinction" is the millions of people who are "backyard" breeders members of no organisation so untraceable.
