from the tone of the letter I really was worried what I would find, so, pleasantly surprised when I did meet her puppy. A major part of her distress and depression was obviously the puppies nails, Sharp as razors, her hands and skin of her arms and legs is a mess of cuts, many quite deep, Her daughter had come recently and removed their sharp tips, the day before, I learned, once they were clipped and filed smooth she is no longer afraid of her nails now. Yes, she sure liked to bite but that was only because she had never said no, not wanting to hurt her feelings. I left feeling pretty amazed now quickly her depression has been resolved and her confidence in her puppy has grown. As for the attacking shoes and legs. No! has resolved that just as quickly, she really is a delightful puppy. I did cheat, I brought an old horse halter to distract her and play with too, while we were talking. The smells on it fascinated her. So it will be brought out when visitors arrive to keep her occupied during the initial excitement of new visitors and burn off the excess energy on the halter and not the people. . only ten minutes playing with the halter and she had burned off the overexcitement and happy to lay on laps or beside you quietly, perfect little lady. She reports it is working well. She had completely forgotten the importance of taking her out to toilet after meals and after waking from a nap. Let alone praise each time she does go outside. Bit gee whizzed how easily things have turned around.

So happy to report, went and visited small rough nut this morning. Less than 10 minutes of , No and ah! She stopped bite immediately I made either sound, never bit again for the next 20 minutes. Not just not hands or fingers, no biting shoes, socks or clothes, very impressed , such a quick learner, loves cuddles and tummy rubs yet didn't get over excited or forget new manners. Her human is delighted and more confident now to say no when needed. As others suspected, had forgotten puppies Need to be taught, NO! Being such an eager to please bub, should be much better from now, going to be more active in taking her to toilet after meals and sleep as well as immediate praise when she does. Will Check their progress in a few days , so relieved to have been able to help but what darling smart eager to please puppy bub too

I received this letter today . From a lady who had bought Jaffa and Spot (also cavalier king Charles) from me 13 years previously. I have no idea who she purchased Ruby the puppy being referred too. My puppies understand "NO" and "be gentle" from the get go. But she is obviously very much in need of help. Only had her two weeks. "How are you the family and all of your beautiful animals? we are all well except for dealing with our new 10 week old cavalier, ruby. there's no sign of toilet training working, the biggest problem, though, is that ruby is very aggressive, bordering on vicious. I hope you can help. I have so many socks with holes from her nipping at our ankles. I can't go near her until I have on sturdy shoes. she bites toes and she is so strong in the jaw that I fear injury. When she tries to jump onto my lap from the floor I get scratches and tooth damage on my hands and legs. If I start with her on my lap she scratches and bites just as hard. very true and we all know what happens to a tall poppy in Australia. although I do find a certain irony that we celebrate anzac day with what? the red poppy? What happened to Adrienne is all to common the attitude to anyone who bred a litter, even among the very members of DogsNSW. So quick to explain they either never breed or only one litter. Anyone else who bred more is spoken to and treated the same as Adriene was by that lady in the street, but if you bred more than two litters so will you by your fellow members who feel they are ethical and responsible because they are either dead end kennels because no pup is main registered unless they kept it, or dont breed anyway. I do not blame anyone for not breeding anymore, it is not worth the stress and condemnation earned or not. Never forget the heartbroken friend who had joined her breed club worked her herself to a standstill for the club and what happened? The average litter size was 2 to 3 so still less than one big breed litter anyway? She had 8 bitches for goodness sake, (she had been having so much fun showing them and organising food for the club members at ever show, as well as finding great trophies for the winners) so either leave all but one or two empty annually or face the humiliation she did when accused of being a puppy farmer. That was some 12 years ago and this persecution has simply been escalating from among the membership to spread to the general public ever since. watching the number of puppies registered annually I suspected the ankc was heading into the red, hence the increasing registration fees but I could only suspect what what happening until some one had the foresight to put together the Forensic View of puppy breeding in Australia. I am astounded by the anti breeder sentiment on an ankc site, let alone so many other sites for purebred dogs including face plant? people saying they "rescued" their pup they bought, dont even mention it came from an ankc breeder to prevent being made to feel bad because it came from a breeder if they had? How do I know, puppies i bred I have seen their photos posted by their proud new owner, but not game to say other than "this is my darling rescue" That shows how much pressure is being put on people to adopt/rescue now days . Let alone the pressure to never risk breeding a litter in the future. I realised being a breeder was becoming "being a witch" decades ago. anyone who looks back to my comments from 1999 can verify where I saw this was heading. no way did I want to be proven right because this one is leading to the end of ankc dogs and just about every other register. what is it with the human race? the search to find a scapegoat and eliminate it? you were lucky you asked the right questions. if you dont, the impression given is we will do our best to save. (but not give you the chances. unless you ask first) over the years i have learned to be suspicious of runts, many times it turns out there is a reason and its either kidney or liver malfunction. first thing my vet does is check for both. way before they are considered candidates for a new home. another not often seen, the brain shunt is blocked. can be operated on for a child with this condition but no tubes small enough to save a puppy.

Then they brought in the one litter per year? or if bred back to back have to leave empty for 3 seasons???????? these girls are a night mare to leave empty for a year let alone more as they gain so much weight between "litters". then wont go in pup. At the time I pointed out the big litter breeds could have 24 pups in 2 litters. while the toy has 2! I suggested a limit on number of puppies bred instead. gee that got howled down . oddly it was most loud by the big litter breed owners. the whole thing has been a disaster for the dogs. and the register. before the bitches had their puppies while still young and desexed and rehomed by those who rehomed their ex breeding bitches. I remember my vet commenting that whoever drew this up never liaised with dog reproductive vets. the ONLY information on a normal chip is the number. there is nothing else on it. its an inert until a scanner activates the number. The only time I have had a chip not read when I know its there , is when the battery of the scanner is too low to pick up the number, new battery in the scanner and up comes the number. years ago before I learned that, chipped a pup after checking the chip with the scanner. and when it was now in the pup no number? called the chip supplier who said it must be a faulty chip. put in another and I will replace the faulty chip. put in another and it too wouldnt scan. but finally the scanner beeped low battery. it was scanning the number in the packet but had been too low to scan the chip in the dog. with the skin between? new batteries and the poor pup now had two chips reading fine. there are special ones that cost more that when you scan them give the dogs tempretature but i have never seen them only read abut them I expect they would be pretty expensive and not even they give you the owners name and address. the whole purpose of the chip is to give its number. which then is put into the data bank and tells you the details of the dog entered .

no such thing as a "blank chip" they all come numbered. things can go haywire though. well remember a puppy chipped and scanned at 6 weeks. headed to new owner interstate and scanned at the airport. chip matched paperwork. Scanned on arrival. chip matched paperwork. some weeks later at the new owners vet for next vaccination. a month after previous vaccination and chip inserted..... no chip to be found? no explanations coming from the puppy either come to think of it, if the scanner battery is low it will not register the chip number, new battery, up came the number
