  1. be interesting asking the rspca best of luck and would be appreciated if you could keep us up to date, so hope ends well for you.... if it was a worm issue you will see improvement in six weeks
  2. sounds like a cavalier but thats just a guess, needing worming can give rise to a heart murmur that will resolve once wormed, I remember my vet saying once. well I think that was it. come to think of it, if they didnt bother to treat an ear infection, maybe worming wasnt 2 weekly either..... might be an idea to worm your puppy, just in case
  3. The poster should have contacted the breeder from the first vet check, that is appalling. to deliberately send a puppy they know has ear infections. Wishing you all the best in this. No idea what the outcome will be, the courts tend to be a lottery but going to the small claims is good advice the laws are now everyone must have outside kennels and it is illegal to whelp and raise your puppies in your home if they come and inspect you, and that includes the ankc inspector as well... the laws they have made now make everyone a commercial breeder whether you breed one or one hundred... instead so they are eliminating in home raised ( backyard ) breeders, its comply with commercial or else. a friend lives in dorrigo and the council there is even worse, dorrigo has made it that you must have a fully enclosed concrete floored, airconditioned shed for whelping. if you haven't one and the council inspector learns you have puppies, The inspector told her for every puppy pay 1,600 each or surrender. They seize them and take them to the local rescue. As well demand you desex the mother within I think one or two weeks or face fines of again I think it was 1,600...... the same I know the nsw government was going to implement the same laws as Dorrigo, but Dogs NSW managed to get them to redraft, no idea what the redraft contains, if its similar pretty much the end of all but commercial puppy farms in this state. As for the horrific results if a blackout occurred mid summer. locked in those sheds the dorrigo council has passed is the only way allowed, every dog would be dead by the time you got home it you were away from home when it happened .. same result of being locked in a car these laws are certainly not being drafted to take into account our climate and unreliable electricity supply. The politicians certainly have absolutely no idea about managing dogs in the real world and climate of this country
  4. it was amazing actually that they did discharge the gun. a friend was riding with a group and a car hit one of the horses and broke two of the horses legs. the police arrived but refused to shoot it. citing they would have to fill our reams if they discharged a firearm. called for a vet to come, but unfortunately the horse began to come out of shock and began fighting to regain its feet and threw everyone who had been holding it down kicking my friend in the head. so then they needed an ambulance to save her life as her skull had been caved in by the kick.
  5. think my lot would think cable ties were their dental floss :-)
  6. "RSPCA Victoria's head of operations, Tegan McPherson, said there were a number of reasons why a seemingly healthy dog could suddenly attack. "It can be a range of things such as genetics, its learning experience and training as well as its environment," Ms McPherson told ABC Radio Melbourne. "Fear is generally the underlying emotion associated with aggression in healthy dogs." cannot find my self agreeing with the rspca, but it does explain why SA justified taking the border collies, they were fearful of the strange inspector, they interpreted that as they could attack as a result. Certainly known many dogs that are bred to be guard dogs automatically being aggressive , the one that scared me most was a massive Neapolitan that by 9 months decided his job was to guard the cars parked at our pony club grounds. he would welcome everyone in as they entered and parked, he would come gambolling up wagging his tail and wanting to be patted, typical adorable BIG puppy... no problems then, even when is owner was no where to be seen. BUT try to go back to your car without the caretaker, his owner with you, he would stand guard and begin to bristle if you kept coming and threaten to attack and he wasn't joking or bluffing, after one of the dads decided to ignore the threats and went to open his car door he was attacked... the caretaker decided to have him desexed hoping that may reduce the aggression, have to say everyone was relieved to learn he never woke up from the op... only his owner grieved his loss. Although everyone expressed condolences, we were celebrating in the clubhouse, because he didn't restrict himself to threatening us adults, he was terrifying the children too if the ran anywhere near the carpark. The caretaker did lock him up in her backyard but he discovered he had no trouble clearing the six foot fence once he had decided he had his job to do.
  7. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-11/american-staffordshire-terrier-dog-attack-kills-man-in-melbourne/11298152 https://www.news.com.au/national/victoria/news/man-killed-woman-injured-in-horror-dog-attack-in-melbourne-backyard/news-story/ae54569cd7d3060f9671b8d14a5cd474 Such a tragedy, the poor family. I do wonder why the police bothered to catch the dog instead of shooting it on the spot when still attacking the woman when they arrived? Although hope they do an autopsy to see if it had brain damage or something else to trigger what is being said is abnormal behaviour
  8. the dog world went crackers some 20 years ago, after someone discovered the new in stock "compost bins" for only $19 (that was twenty years ago I think) they are four panels of wire mesh almost identical to the puppy pens the pet shops sell for over $70 . every dog forum was spreading the great news.... there were constant updates which branches still had "puppy pens" in stock and how many left. I still use them. perfect for travelling, I have two and so they can play in a big 8 sided pen when we arrive at vets or show.... mmm the price has gone up but the same thing in a pet shop today is 179 so still a bargain,, i put them together long side down so 1 mtre square pen. the only catch is always use a pair of pliers to crush the ends of the twirly bit after u have it in place or the puppies shaking it they spin down and so it opens like a flower as they spin to the ground.. also I dont put the spinners on all four sides, get two small boat clips for one side and then can fold easily for travelling and or clip to second pen if want bigger run area for puppies, put together low for small puppies or high for bigger puppies if they climb...............https://www.bunnings.com.au/tumbleweed-garden-waste...
  9. O my! surely that first one has to be the winner... beyond priceless, just sums up everything about our dogs doesn't he/she. the good, the adorable, the EEEEEEEK! and no is already too late
  10. incredibly sad, suspect he is lucky to be alive. probably will never recover from the trauma. so unnecessary, nothing the owner could do can be adequate. words fail At lest he did survive and will be back home with his family
  11. What you may ask has this to do with purebred dogs. actually a lot now we live in the age of dead end kennels. less sires available to maintain diversity just for starters it seems. Without even dipping into the subject of shrinking female lines available https://listentoyourhorse.com/equine-genome-project-gives-modern-breeders-a-big-fat-fail/?fbclid=IwAR2qyUzpK79vn5E27XewkL9Qpgs5nSmP6_eSHBCE6XO6noFCRZ310kbnKmw
  12. these mini bear dogs seem to have done the job too
  13. ok it's american, but about time someone wrote a book about the industry. remarkable the parallels the writers were bitten and learned first hand and horrified by what they learned the hard way. Lisa Layton has sampled the introduction to Laura and Rick Bell's second edition of their book Animal Owners Under Attack, now titled The Animal Rights War https://www.amazon.com/…/1092300473/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp_U_T9Q…: "Did you know that animal owners are getting abused every day around the world? ~ Did you know that animals are being removed from the homes they share with their loving owners every day? ~ Did you know that many animals are treated horribly by the people that steal them from their owners and a high percentage are convenience killed? ~ Did you know that the animal rights movement is buying influence with state legislators to get increasingly restrictive laws passed? ~ Did you know that these laws create a system where private citizens are given police powers to arrest animal owners and steal their animals? ~ Did you also know that these private animal police are exempt from government required accountability and transparency requirements even though they are performing government work? ~ Do you know most animal owner arrests and animal thefts are conducted under false pretense? ~ Do you know that anonymous complaints from a nasty neighbor, ex-spouse or partner, business competitors, AR trolls, your vet, etc. can get you arrested and cost you all of your animals? ~ Do you know that cities, counties, townships, etc. that are not successful regarding enforcing illegal zoning laws will make up reasons to steal your animals and arrest you? ~ Do you know what the true agendas of popular animal rights organizations are? ~ Do you know the differences between self-funded rescues and sanctuaries and donation-funded rescues and sanctuaries? ~ Are you aware of what the consequences of a low tax and smaller government agenda are? ~ Do you know why false pretense animal owner arrests and animal thefts are not a Republican versus Democrat issue? ~ Do you know who wrote the United Nation's Agenda 21? ~ Do you know what the original purpose of Agenda 21 was? ~ Have you read actual stories from unjustly treated animal owners? ~ Are you tuned-in to how some animal owners are fueling the animal rights movement? ~ Would you believe it if we told you how the negative events conducted by animal protection organizations parallel what is going on with child protective services and elder care services? ~ You probably use social media yourself, but do you realize how these under-regulated media platforms contribute to bullying and the defamation of average Americans and their families? ~ As you read our book you will get the answers to all of these questions and a whole lot more. Six years ago we were unjustly attacked by people posing as friends. People that we had helped over and over again for several months. At the time, we operated a Sanctuary and Hospice for horses. We had horses that were ill that we and our vets were treating. The horses eventually got better, but not until after the people we were helping used their poor condition to rev-up a social media attack on us, which triggered complaints against us by complete strangers. Their attack used staged videos and altered photos, but that did not matter to social media mobs who are addicted to staged reality show drama. At the time, we were naive to the negative affects of social media, but we soon learned. Since that time we have educated ourselves on issues facing animal owners every day. We were lucky, if you can call what happened to us being lucky. We were criminally investigated for 5 1/2 months. We were completely exonerated and never were charged with a crime and never had animals taken. The end of the investigation coincided with the horses recovery. To this day we still have people falsely accuse us of animal abuse and it seems there is nothing we can do about it. Thank you for considering buying our book. We know you will learn a lot about the animal protection industry. There was a lot we didn't understand 6 years ago and we suspect there is a lot you may not understand. Laura and Rick Bell copied from the Amazon site where the book is for sale "'The Animal Rights War' exposes the seedy underbelly of the Animal Protection Industry (API). In this modern age of social media, most people have seen or imagined the positive affects of the evolving API, but there are disturbing affects too. 'The Animal Rights War' is a unique compilation of facts, combined with real stories of interactions between animal owners and the Animal Protection Industry (API). Do you really know the difference between Animal Rights, Animal Welfare, Animal Rescue, and Animal Advocacy? Have you considered what positive AND negative affects social media has had on the API? 'The Animal Rights War' identifies all of the different groups, sectors, and sub-sectors that make up the Animal Protection Industry (API). APIs include self-funded rescues and sanctuaries, donation-funded rescues, humane societies, and SPCAs, and taxpayer-funded government agencies, and everything in between. You will see how money, politics, social media, and human nature are all playing a role in structuring an Animal Protection Industry that isn't always fair or just. Most of us want animals treated well, so we support Animal Protection Organizations with our time and money. While there are many good Animal Protection Organizations, new laws and social media have allowed the API to become corrupted by an ever increasing number of bad actors. 'The Animal Rights War' is the only resource available today that tells the WHOLE story. One thing is for sure; when you get done reading 'The Animal Rights War' you will have a much better grasp of where your API donations go and you will have been advised on how to protect yourself, family members, friends, and animals from the bad actors. You will be surprised to learn what is going on in the Animal Protection Industry, we guarantee it! Buy 'The Animal Rights War' now!

  15. Wow Ok its about horses but they believe the findings apply to all frozen semen https://www.horsetalk.co.nz/2019/06/26/differences-gene-expression-embryos-frozen-semen/?fbclid=IwAR0vzbkOM2_FfVrlyzXg1g-MTYNAa2PORknTgXfkmz6mj0L9N9dc9LuV5M4
  16. Well considering our pollies only believe in taking good care of corporations, the bigger, the more tax free they are............ then it makes sense.
  17. interesting statistics https://www.michaelwest.com.au/nsw-doggy-death-row/?fbclid=IwAR3OcrdEWp0bh2sTSp0NjaCsRNU7kiUh8Wspqv00lRMBsWkNoG-Tms7Ux8Q
  18. the problem is the minute you start talking about genetics and percentages, the majority seem to get glazed eyes and cant seem to get their head around it... I know when I was first sent to study genetics, at times I had to read the same pages two or three times or more before I began to understand what the writer was telling me... it is not a simple subject is it doesn't help when many authors write to educate the already educated to the word speak, so the newbie who doesn't understand the word speak yet feels like they are negotiating a new language
  19. "I have seen a few hermaphrodites... also some with sight/hearing issues..." our first Border Collie turned out to be an Hemaphrodite, he/she was black with a white collar and four white feet. The suspect cause of hearing issues according to Georgina Childs BvSc at Sydney Uni vet clinic is suspected to be linked to either white spotting, ie Dalmations. There is also genetic testing happening to see if a genetic component is detectable. Horses with splash white faces involving or close the the ear tend to be deaf, apparently if the white includes the eardrum it is deaf. in goats the gene for hornless, which is a dominant, produces a high incidence of Hermophrodites when hornless to hornless are bred together. yet have never seen this problem in poll to poll cattle?
  20. actually if the dogs are English Staffordshire Bull terriers blue is listed as acceptable in the standard. ie "· Colour: Red, fawn, white, black or blue, or any one of these colours with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. Black and tan or liver colour highly undesirable." if the dog they are referring to is American Staffordshire the standard is "· Colour: Any colour, solid, parti, or patched is permissible, but all white, more than 80% white, black and tan, and liver not to be encouraged." It is the French Bulldog that does not register blue. "· Colour: The only correct colours are: Brindle; Fawn; Pied; Brindle – Colour pattern caused by a mixture of black hairs and fawn hairs. White markings permitted provided that brindle predominates. Eye rims, eyelashes and lips black. Fawn – Clear, self-coloured fawn with or without a black mask. White markings permitted, provided that fawn predominates. Cream and red shades less desirable. Eye rims, eyelashes and lips black. Pied – Brindle Pied: White predominates with brindle patches. (The brindle as defined above). Fawn Pied: White predominates with fawn patches. Whites are classified with pieds for show purposes. In pieds, eye rims, eyelashes and lips should preferably be black. Any white in the above colours should be clear with no ticking or spots. All other colours highly undesirable, including solid black, black and white, black and tan, mouse, grey/blue, liver/chocolate and all patterns of these colours." the breeders of the Weimaraner eliminated alopecia from their gene pool decades ago....ALL Weimaraner's are blue, a percentage are also double chocolate as well, hence double dilute, with none of the problems seen that the breeds that have not eliminated the alopecia elle from the gene pool, this was achieved before dna profiling made eliminating undesirable genes so much easier. So it is proven this can be eliminated. "· Colour: Silver, roe or mouse grey, as well as shades of these colours. Head and leathers generally slightly paler. Only small white markings on chest or toes permitted. Sometimes a more or less defined trace occurs along the back. Dogs with definite reddish yellow markings may only be given the classification good. Brown marking is a serious fault" If owners and breeders want blue with out the skin issues, it is an alle that is the cause of the problem, not the actual blue gene, (for example a bay horse would be black if it did not carry and additional "agouti" gene.. without that gene and only one copy is needed, my bay stallion only has one agouti gene, over half of his foals are black when bred to mares that do not carry the agouti gene)........ on average 1 in 4 blue chihuahua's have blue gene alopecia, which my vet said proves there is a secondary elle affecting which puppies develop blue gene alopecia and which do not.. if only blue parents free of alopecia were selected the responsible elle could be eliminated from the gene pool and no more affected puppies would be born.
  21. another woman in hospital this morning after two dogs attacked her... missed hearing the suburb. anyone know if she is ok?
  22. saw this article have to wonder if there is a connection https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/06/women-autoimmune-diseases-pregnancy/591901/?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=the-atlantic&utm_term=2019-06-18T14%3A40%3A27&utm_content=edit-promo&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR0Nu31d_pvOgpGvUIGsw9PBrwlz38_-scmeRmdsgbP_1kHGUcNDGMsJ9ZI
  23. pretty impressed. wasn't deleted, not even the angry later poster. and received a reply of sorts...didnt answer my question is this comming to nsw though. J P S good luck with that. RSPCA ... PETA by another name (?) ... do not want to be transparent and are in no way dog / horse / cattle friendly and even less so to their owners. Hell will have frozen over x 3 before they get another cent of mine. RSPCA NSW Hi S, Please contact RSPCA South Australia if you have any questions in regards to the above case involving Border Collies. You can contact them here: https://www.rspcasa.org.au/contact/ and here: https://www.facebook.com/rspcasouthaustralia/ RSPCA NSW were not involved in this case (as it is out of our jurisdiction on New South Wales), so are unable to comment. Thanks. S Thank you. Although I am concerned that this has set a precedent and "chronic mental suffering" may become used in nsw to describe any dog that is "chary, wary or suspicious" of strangers, as this is a characteristic of many of our purebred and a percentage of x bred dogs as well? Few people realise what great guard and family protection dogs poodles are, so they too could fall foul of this as well if it is to become legislated as a basis for seizure and prosecution, as I am aware new laws are currently being drafted?
