Dogs Victoria Wanting To Take More Decisions From Breeders.
asal replied to Steve's topic in Breeders Community
I wish I could say yes.....but.......... what is an acs? was thinking u meant australian cattledog? are u? my family has had them from the day i was born and ive never seen one of our dogs with any of the issues u name or blindness issues, one just pegged it at 14 from prostrate cancer? still fine in the eyes though. umm does this qualify as a question? not a comment? -

ha. forgot. but what benefits are flowing to his income generation?. breeds he has rarely seen needing ceasers are turning up in droves, common denominator? the ages of the mums, although he suspects the trend to widening heads for the showring too. funny how so many breeds seem to be thought to be better if the head is a bit broader ............ dont fret. no more comments ..... promise -
Dogs Victoria Wanting To Take More Decisions From Breeders.

think its a lost cause kiddo. i know a vet, suprisingly a ex rspca vet, (with quite a few years on the job) who is laughinghing his head off. what has he said to me? "it is the end of pedigree dogs, its just a matter of time. the best age to breed bitches is when they are young and supple, less whelping problems, less fertility problems, less congenital problems, bitches were meant to be pregnant with each season and better off having their pups when they are young and desexed young. benefits? she has her babies when she is in her youth and prime and if her breeder has to rehome her to make room for the next generation she is 3 or 4, young enough for a very happy family to take her. people think a 5 or 6 year old dog is OLD. its equally true of bitches as it is for elder women. older they are the more delivery problems, birth defects percentage wise, fertility wise etc. but hey. who is game enough or silly enough to say such things. NO MEMBER of a canine body, well unless they are contemplating suicide anyway. is going to try pushing that line of thought today are they?" was interesting to hear his opinion though. -
Breeder Feedback - Criteria To Determine Acceptable Breeding Practises
asal replied to BJean's topic in Breeders Community
there are breeders who have been doing this for decades, long before the dna tests became available, some actually knew what they were doing and what they were looking for. prior to that some breeders of many breeds, not just dogs, were testing by specific matings to determine if parents were clear. one of the quickest was sire to daughter and dam to son. it was not just a tool used by lazy or shonky breeders as now being said. unfortunaly great as a tool dna is, it has only tests available for a fraction of the problems needing testing for as yet. so parents and grandparents etc found clear by age is still worth continuing as well until such tests down theline do become available. trouble is a significant portion still think a mismating will give x bred puppies being able to show up for the remainder of the bitches life? so theres a huge differnce in knowledge base among members. -

correct me if im wrong, but isnt that the general idea? no puppies available to any but the breeder to show and prove their ethical or only available to friends who promise to show. sooo no more available as pets so no chance of em ending up in pounds because they aint there? think thats the rationale behind it? -
Shooting Of Husky In Dog Park By Off-duty Police Officer
asal replied to koalathebear's topic in In The News
I think that depends on the state/municipality, but yes, many off-duty cops carry their weapons with them. Even when off-duty if they come upon a situation that warrants police interference they can/are allowed to "do their duty" as an officer of the law. However to take your loaded, off-duty firearm to a dog park where there are lots of people and probably children running around is just plain stupid. Also, this guy was not a local police officer. He is a federal officer, so think glorified security guard. well its becoming a bit scary how many people have died at the hands of even non gun toting security guards -
n strangles can be "rare" if horse owners never let their horse drink from public troughs, vaccinate, and dont let them graze while at shows so they dont get contaminated by infected water or grazing where an infected horse may have been. ive had horses for nearly 50 years and the only one to ever get strangles came home from the stud with it. and surpise suprise, with the above stratagies none of my others caught it from her. exactly and where does a "collar" go? round the neck and the bottom of one runs under the jaw.. soo some moran inspector was just as much knowledge as the morans in australia decided it was from a too tight collar? n yes some horses do wear collars. although not many, its done to stop them windsucking. as well many big studs put them on all the mares with a number so they can easily identify them. gather in the case of that guys horses, it was simply strangles and yep they look pretty dreaful but i can tell you if it doesnt burst there then the outcome is far worse because all that muck goes down into the lungs and not many survive that, that one the vets call bastard strangles and most die. so the sores are a good not a bad sign. but hey, who are us horse people ? no nice person would keep a horse and make a slave of it would they? so its open season on such cruel people surely . dont know where the link is but its round here somewhere. the megalong riding place was forced to destroy its retired horses despite hundreds of acres they could live out their lives happily, because someone in the rscpa decided they must die. charged the owners for failure to worm despite years of account records of regularly doing just that, and used the FACT that within days horses are reinfested ,soooo simply came back a few weeks before the next due worming. took samples. (of course there was going to be a posative count,) thats why they are wormed regulary.. the rspca prefer SOFT targets. look what happens when they actually take on someone who can afford to fight back? didnt they totaly muff it???? poor diddums, too many soft targets so wernt prepared for facing live ammo? look at the cruelty of the ruth downes case? they shot every one of her cows despite the fact the feed store was there with a truckload of feed for them and was regulary delivering feed. it was full drought, they were dairy breed cattle which DO NOT LOOK LIKE BEEF cattle. they turned away the driver then used the excuse to shoot them because she had no feed on the place? well if you refused to let the produce store unload the feed ordered then how can it be on the property? then theres the dairy in victoria. the owners arrived home as the inspector was finishing shooting their cows they had foolishly put to graze near a public road. someone decided they looked skinny, odd that, high production fresiens tend to look like that.. but hey,, inspectors can "form the opinon" and thats all they have to do by law, in that instance his opinion was he shoot them immediately even before making any contact with the owner. fait accomplai before they could even come home. the husaband died of a heart attack not long after, his widow believes from the shock and distress of that day, 3 generations of breeding some of the best freisens in victoria gone. no warning, no appeal. do they fabricate evidence? well i have a letter from richard amery dated `14 june 2001. which says "without proper records of your own or or veterinarian, showing that stringy was under veterinary care the inspectors could only rely on their own judgement. in this case inspector donnelly decided that stringys best interests would be served by proper veterinary examination and diagnostic work up at the rspca shelter". very interesting that. since in the two weeks between the first visit by donnelly when i gave him my vets phone number he never once availed himself of the opportunity to speak to my vet, so how did he reach a conclusion as given to the then minister for agriculture AFTER THE EVENT? HE DID FINALLY speak to my vet, WHEN MY VET PHONED HIM TO DEMAND THE DOGS RETURN. (ie already, stolen, taken, seized past tense?) then and only then did he learn my vet had made the almost fatal mistake (for my dog) of not writing in his records when there is nothing wrong with the dog. (interestingly, the only vets ive met who put in their records when they see the dog and its fine and write that, have already learned after a simlar previous altercation with the rscpa?) since when can you say you acted on information gained AFTER THE EVENT??????????????????? N SINCE WHEN DOES BLUE GENE ALOPECIA need carving the victum up to find something chargable? he was returned with a torn trachea and pnemonia . THAT IS IN HIS VETS RECORDS. N IT COST ANOTHER 600 to save him from the the conditon in which he was returned from the rscpa's "care"? thats on top of all the charges for the "testing " done by them before they would deign to return him. donate to the Animal Welfare League, they actually do care about the animals. not publicity seeking at any cost

Breeder Feedback - Criteria To Determine Acceptable Breeding Practises
asal replied to BJean's topic in Breeders Community
please forgive me while i kak myself laughing do you realise that the RSPCA special constables are "preferably ex police with prosecution experience willing to undergo animal care course" that said constables do not have to pass the course all they have to do is attend? my husband was teaching a class and when he reported to the principle that a number of members of the class paid no attention and there was no way he could give them a pass was told not to worry, all they have to do is attend they dont have to pass. they are rspca inspectors. yet all they have to do under the law is "form the opinion" an animal is negleted or needs to be seized to do so. they dont have to have any actual animal care qualifications yet you expect more of a pet shop employee????????? -
thanks for that poodlefan sent this back to my friend. she had forwarded it to heaps of people by the addresses in the one i received Hi kay, i posted it on dogzonline and they said its a fake. rathr relieved actually imagine if such a training existed, how many could such a dog kill on the way back to the handler? it hit me how could it know who was "enemy" or who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time? turns out the photo is of a police dog in the usa. heres a link to it. http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/brutus.asp cheers

actually im not sad. pretty frightening they could train a dog to come back and kill anyone between it and its owner . think of how many could have been killed that were innocent. as i said, it sounded pretty amazing. so being a myth actually makes me feel better to know. if that makes any sense? Yeah, it does. A dog that large would be an absolute liability in a warzone too - they have to be able to get in and out of all kinds of vehicles and over all kinds of obstacles. As far as I'm aware the US military don't use crossbred dogs for work - they use mostly Belgian Malinois these days and I understand that is what the dog is in the photo that often accompanies the story. lets face it, it seemed ironic to put that prayer under it, for a story that tells our best mate could be taught to kill. i almost deleted it for that reason, but wondered if it had been included for a reason i couldnt see, if u get my drift?

just received this in my email. anyone else heard of this. what an amazing dog, amazing story. I thought you might like to know about this dog and his story. I especially like the ending ......... The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord.. He's huge - part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did. Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour in Iraq . His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'. The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (the guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened. He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped. He's the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you're ok, he's a big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. Enjoys the company of cats.. K-9 Congressional Medal of Honor Winner Thought you'd find this interesting. Talk about animal intelligence and bonding with humans! Remember that they can't do a lot of things for themselves and that they depend on you to make their life a quality life! A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS......... 1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me 3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you. 5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it. 7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak. 9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old. 10 On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so. ~Take a moment today to thank GOD for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters. ~Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

if never letting a person know where u live anymore im certainly will and forever remain a puppy farmer. ive had 7 stolen in some 28 years by people who have come back and helped themselves. only since microchipping has come in did i get the last two stolen back. so if i have to lose a home for a pup because they want to assure themselves by inspecting my home, then they can go find someone else who doesnt mind having their home cased by in the case of my last two stolen pups a team of husband and wife professional house theives. thanks to the chips one was traced directly back to them as the seller , to learn from the police he had 6 outstanding arrest warrants!!!!!!! and yes her sister too was rescued, found wandering beside a 6 lane highway. so I am sticking to my guns no matter what label u want to stick to the desire to be able to sleep at night or go out without wondering what will be left when u get back home. ho. n i was home when they came back and stole them, if i had been seconds faster in getting out to the drive, they probably would have ran me down as they shot off with the pups in the car, they were flying.... and when they were arrested, what did the police tell me? they had knives and a gun in their possession besides being high on? forget what they called it. that stuff that makes people so violent that hospital staff fear when they bring em in. they were so high on whatever it was they admitted the theft when arrested and even told them where they had sold the one found on the road, some market at campbelltown. so her new owners hadnt made much of an effort to keep her safe poor little thing. n how did i find her sister, advertised on trading post, her buyers hubby had decided no puppy sold for 200 could possibly be a purebred and get rid of it while it still looks like a purebred and i recognised her photo while i was trolling the net the night after her sister was found because i couldnt sleep, because every time i shut my eyes i would see visions of her little body on that highway. so began trolling the net for sale adds as the police said most stolen dogs are sold on the net and at 1.30am in the morning i found her. so you brave ones can hug your etical status all u like to keep you warm and able to sleep, if u end up with the likes of that lot visiting you.

come to think of it, perhaps the quickest way to eliminate "a breeder that breeds for profit" from the canine councils make it besides the rules 6 litters per bitch and the one being condsidered i gather from another thread only allowed to register was it 20 pups max a year. how about they also fix a set price for pups? like no breeder can sell a pup for over say 400 dollars or their membership is cancelled? dont think that could return a profit after adding feed, vet costs n the other incidentals which seem to add up terryfyingly fast. always figured the day will come when only those who can afford to breed at a loss will be allowed to be "breeders" anyway. be interesting to see how many members will be left after 3 or 4 years. i recall quite some time ago there was a survey done and it was discovered the majority of new members didnt last 5 years, n the majority of over 6 years members were pensioners who used the extra money from their pups to supplement their pension. and its interesting to see how many at the shows are in the pensioner category. wonder how many will remain if this comes in. wonder what percentage of pensioners have sufficient income to survive once locked into only breeding if they can absorb the loss? thats how its worked for decades with pedigree horses. although they dont deregister the few who do manage a miracle with those as there are so few. think it was 6 percent. (yes there was a survey done) the rest as their survey revealed, are subsidising the pleasure horse industry by supplying below the cost of production. I would be all for the idea but for one thing. All this is doing is making registered breeders out to be the only ones responsible for dumped and/or too many dogs. didnt someone post that as it already stands, the number of registered dogs bred per year is a . something fraction of the number of estimated dogs surrendered or lost in the the community? have i missed somthing, is there anything being considered for the i suspect tens thousands of people who are breeding either the occasional or more litter/litters that are nor or ever will, become registered breeders? most of the time when i ask someone where they got there darling puppy, the answer is not that it came from a registered breeder. think in our street alone there is only two came from registered breeders and theres and AWFUL lot of doggies round here. i even tried to rehome a friends ex broodbitch with a nearby pensioner, free, gratis, zilch, but he decided he just had to have a puppy and the pet shop gave him a discount for a pretty little pom pup they couldnt sell. so he got it for only 400. he didnt even know what patella is. n if i can see it in a pup that young its going to have some interesting way of going by the time its adult.

jennifer if i were you i would be putting an add in the same trading post along with a photo of him asking for help somehow i suspect the new buyer will find out fast. best of luck

wonder if its the same guy looking for a "good home " for his fresian gelding. same story and yep roughly the same cost for to the door delivery. LOL

Breeder Feedback - Criteria To Determine Acceptable Breeding Practises

WTF??? So what does the Dane Breeder do with the other 1/2 a litter? get a fine for every pup he/she produces over said limit? naturally. if theres going to be so much less breeders there has to be some way to keep fees comming in surely n what about the toy breeds with one or two pups? but as i was told once before when the number of litters was passed and asked what about if u have a one pup one litter mum? thats only produced 6 boys to date. that to want another chance at a girl is only puppy farming. so ..... surely anyone that cant find their one to keep in a litter of 10 has no excuse to need a second litter surely? in my case my girl had "litter" 7 luckily before the rule came in and bingo have my long awaited bitch puppy. yay. do i care it made me a puppy farmer? couldnt give a rats anymore. let em legistlate emselves out of business, thats whats its going to come too. they wont be able to afford the rates or the rent or whatever it costs to stay at erskin park if the incoming rules end up so few to register the income just will no longer be there to pay for it and staff. why should a breeder of a big litter breed be able to have 20 pups n more pups to the one bitch n not be labled puppy farmer yet a small litter breeder is? ive a friend whose golden retriver had 32 pups in her first two litters she had 5 litters in her lifetime. u do the maths. she never had less than 14 pups. -
good grief moriarty, never suspected my cattle dog, cavalier or chi was in fact a pitt bull this is serious

if theres one thing a border collie can be obsessed about is "working" some if there is nothing to work will make up their own. our neighbour had over an acre of fenced in lawn for his two and they ran themselves ragged regardless of the weather. i remember one summer the male was fitting on the ground. they called us in panic and considering it was some 113 deg F. i turned on the hose and saturated him and within 5 minutes he was up and off again. in his case i think he thought he was rounding up the birds as they flew over the place as for anything that actually landed. he and his mum would be stalking and trying to herd them. then when they flew off they would be running stupid again looking for the next bird it seemed to be and yes no birds they just ran patterns. we had one as a kid and he was a nighmare jumping out and rounding up the kids on the way to school. his record was 15 too scared to get to the bus stop. when my chooks got out, problem solved he spent all day eyeing them from one part of the yard to the other. happy dog, disgusted chooks. if the rooster got sick of him he would attack the border and pull chunks of hair out of him, stupid bird nearly choked himself one day when neiger was moulting.

your not kidding thanks so much
