Hi all, Would appreciate any input as I will be going to the vets tomorrow. My 9 yr old peke girl, Sarah, is out of sorts for the last week or so. It is one of those situations where you just have that feeling something is brewing. She has been a good eater & just loves chicken necks, a little bit of cheese as a treat & just about everything else! For the last week or so, she hasn't been interested in food as is only nibbling at bits & pieces. Even after only having tiny bits of food, she seems to want to walk around a little then come back as if she is uncomfortable in the belly or something??? A couple of weeks ago, she had a couple of days of diarroeah (sp?) that cleared up with a little scourban & her next motion was solid. She is still lively enough (she is totally blind so has never been that playful or active anyway) & is still drinking ok & wagging her tail. Today has been her worst day & she hasn't eaten a thing -- didn't even want her little bit of liver treat which she lives for! I did give her some nutrigel this morning which she took ok but that's it. She looks thinner around her lower belly & hip area - she was always fairly straight looking & now curves in a bit. When I first rescued her a year ago, we had a lot of trouble with a constant round of severe rumbly belly as she was previously fed mostly frankfurts etc & that is all she would eat. I have managed to get her off those & we haven't had a problem like that for a long time. Her diet has consisted of bashed & cut up chicken necks for brekky & she will have either cooked chicken, chuck steak & kidney, or those puppy meatballs you buy ready made. She will have either a tiny bit of cheese or some liver treats for after. Please offer up anything I can ask the vet about what may be the problem - she is definitely not herself & I hope I have not caused her any problems with anything I have fed or not fed her Edited to add: forgot to mention that my vet gave her an antibiotic injection when I took her in to check on the diarroeah. That was about 10 days ago - not sure if that affects anything?

You know a dog must be a special soul when she causes a person to smile everytime they open the thread & see her face or read about her day! I have just caught myself sitting alone at the computer with the biggest smile on my face simply cause I looked at her with that ball! She deserved this chance & you deserved that special feeling in your heart for helping her

Hi Esky, Was that the little chap with his tongue out to the side...I asked around after this little man as he also had that look of please....just someone love me for a while! I saw him on Senior rescue and asked Toots about him. I am happy he got a last chance to chop on chook and be loved even for just a few days... And Chinaplate...............dont ever feel bad for taking a poor soul from a dreadful situation and giving at least a chance of love even if it were just for a short time......she may (pardon the pun) rally and show that sometimes little miricles happen. big hugs to May. Hi, no the pom with the tongue out to the side is Jen Jen & she was taken in by the lovely Toots & is still with us as far as I know ;) The little pom I was talking about was a male & I called him Jerry. He was one of my first "solo" rescues & there were many frantic threads about him posted here as I was so confused what to do.

Just wanted to say that I, too, have been where you are now when I rescued a little pom from H/P a while back. He was about 17 yrs old & not well. He travelled back with me from Sydney to Newcastle sitting on my front seat enjoying the warm sun & munching on roast chicken. He was ok that night but collapsed the next morning. We fought for him for 2 days & had him at the all night vets both nights in intensive care. I then had a kind offer from an angel here on DOL to try & help through their vet care to see what they could do but he deteriorated too fast I had never had experiences like this before & it was heartbreaking for us all BUT............I WOULD DO IT ALL AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT as I know the little dear was given every chance & passed away with the knowledge he was already much loved. To see his little "well worn" face looking at me in that sunlight & somehow letting me know he new he was out of that pound was what motivates us & allows our hearts to overule our heads at times - & I am grateful for that, as while we have that, we know we are still part of the decent side of humanity. And by the way, he did cost me a fortune for those few days but I think I got my repayment in many other ways.

Thanks for the reply Erny I never thought to google about it............I appreciate you doing that. Unfortunately, my vet is away for a week so I was hesitant to see another but I certainly will if she doesn't pick up by tomorrow afternoon. It is so upsetting to see your babies unwell

Hi all, Am just wondering if anyone has any ideas or advice for me as I am beginning to stress over one of my little pekes. Tia was at vets 2 days ago as I have noticed she is walking with her head tilted to the left. Apart from this head tilt, she has been totally normal & walks around fine. She seems happy & still enjoys ccuddles & her daily walks. Vet had a look down her ears & the right side is a little infected so I have to put drops in. The left ear is definitely abnormal & it appears the timpanic membrane?????? looks odd. He has given her Baytril for a week (one 50mg tablet a day) to see if that helps otherwise it may be an op to investigate. My main question is considering all this, is it normal she doesn't want to eat at all for the last 48 hours? Do the Baytril tablets turn them off food? She has never been a big eater & has always been fussy & needs coaxing some days but this is outright refusal of anything. She adores cheese & won't even look at it. Am not sure whether to take her back to vets tomorrow or ride it out till the Baytril is finished? Please help as I hate to see her not eating. Thanks.

Just wanted to share with someone a poem I wrote for my dear little soulmates who passed away not so long ago - Gismo, Chloe & most recently Paige xx Every part of you is kind, Every part of you is blind.........to my faults, moods & ways. Every part of you is sweet, & this illness we will beat.........together, forever, with love. I can't imagine life without you by my side. I can't recall a day where you haven't tried........to live, to love, to be here to stay, Please God, I beg of you, Don't take my friend away........... Every part of you is kind, Every part of you is blind.........to my faults, moods & ways. Every part of you is sweet, & this illness we just couldn't beat........but our souls will be together, forever, joined with love. God Bless my little ones - run free
