Hi all, Really need some DOL advice please. My old peke boy George was in ICU for 5 days with what turned out to be dynamic airway collapse & secondary pneumonia. He thankfully made it through & is now home & is on an extended course of clavulox & enroflaxin antibiotics as well as ongoing theophyline tablets to help his airways. First problem: he is really starting to become upset when it's tablet time as I have to push them down by hand. He will not take them in food & has started to not want to eat in case they are in there. He takes a bit then rolls it around his mouth & spits it out again. He is really not trusting that there is no tablet in there. He will only eat his much loved liver treats without a fight. I have two more weeks of this at 5 tablets a day & don't know what to do? Secondly: Is there any supplements that I can give him whilst he is still on his antibiotics & not eating much? I haven't been able to get much advice from his vets on this as I think they are just focusing on the medicines at the moment. Wasn't sure if I could give him some Protexin paste or if that would even help? I feel he needs some vitamins or something? Finally: any advice on any foods that I should try to see if I can encourage his appetite back? Thanks in advance for any hep.

You were one of the very first DOLers I ever met & one of my favourites!!!

Thank you for doing the link........I will practice it I didn't think to let people know it was a religious site - I only found it on a friend's facebook page whilst visiting her & didn't even give it a second thought. You are right though, it has nothing to do with the post - it is the dog videos I was focusing on. Hope everyone sees it that way too

Hi all, Have no idea how to post a link...............maybe someone could do it for me please??? The web address is www.godvine.com Found this posted on facebook & it has had me in happy/sad tears. There is a video called "I am an animal rescuer" as well as an amazing video called "One of the most amazing dog rescues ever". There also is a lot of other videos about dogs plus other things mixed in. Hopefully someone can help post a link - I will have to learn one day
-
Thank you all for your replies so far I have rescue dogs myself & am trying to persuade her to go that way too. My sister saw a photo of one of their pups & has fallen in love with it's little face but I feel a bit more research is in order. I do appreciate your input & will show her this thread & hope she makes an informed choice.

Hi, Just thought I'd ask if anyone has ever heard of Yongyuan kennels? My sister is interested in purchasing a pomeranian puppy & has come across some ads from there. I know nothing about poms to help her so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, Just in case there is anything to do with this situation, there was an ad on Petlink I have just read (I know we're not supposed to mention other sites so I will remove if not ok) from a woman in Toowoomba who had her two rottie bitches stolen this morning from her yard?????? I know it is pretty far away from this case but who knows if they are possibly connected somehow? Thought it worth mentioning as it is a very strange coincidence

Hi all, Have tried PMing Mita as have come across a tibbie that might need help. Anyone know how I can reach her as it keeps saying that I cannot send the PM?? Thanks

Thankyou for those recommendations. We are hoping to wean Tia off the prednisone after one more cycle of the cybaratine. She has been on pred for two years now so it is staring to take it's toll I think. I will definitely look up those recommended so far & see how we go.

Thanks so much stans mum - that was very kind of you to go to that effort for us I will definitely look him up as he is certainly close enough for us to travel.

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone could recommend an dog acupuncturist or dog masseuse in the Newcastle or Hunter Valley area? Would also be willing to travel to Sydney or thereabouts if only choice. My dear little peke Tia is currently on prednisone (steroid) & has just began on cybaratine (chemo drug) for suspected GME & I have noticed her leg muscles in particular are getting weaker. She has trouble standing some days & my vet has said that muscle wastage occurs from the steroid. I was thinking that small walks would also help but have been told that her immune system is compromised & don't want her going out where others have been in case. I can only think that maybe an acupuncturist or perhaps a doggie massage may help???? If anyone has any other ideas please free to throw them my way

Thank you all so much for your replies. At this stage, everything's on hold till finance etc can be worked out(had a few hiccups due to varying advice from mortgage brokers)but at least it looks like the dog issue wouldn't be a problem Once again, it is great to have a forum where you can get lots of good feedback & advice when desperately needed.

Thanks for your reply.......the herb robert is derived from "geranium robertianum". I have found a lot of info by googling it - I also found that several health food shops didn't know what I was talking about either when I rang around to see if anyone stocked it.
-
Hi all, Following on from another thread started in General & also posted here in Health, I have received some dried herb Robert today & am eager to get my girl started. Can anyone tell me though........Westiemum mentioned she steeps her herbs overnight in water but am unsure if you give the whole mix (herbs & water) to my dog or strain it & only give the liquid? Not sure how to steep the mix either. Also, can you just give the dried herbs sprinkled on food? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
-
Hi Westiemum, I sent you a PM yesterday but not sure if you got it??? I also sent Mita one too but now thinking something may be wrong with my messaging??? Anyway, thankyou for posting about the herb. My pm was to ask you about it if possible because I am trying everything I can to help one of my little dogs too. The DOLer who helped you was very kind & you are very kind also. Thanks again.

Have no idea how to post a link but on the council website put "morpeth" in search box. Go to page 2 then click on council policies. Scroll down to "keeping of animals" & then scroll to page 4. Will definitely have to learn how to post a link

Thanks for all your replies so far - very much appreciated. At the moment I am in NSW & all my dogs are registered with the local council. It is a dilemna, as I know I won't have that many for long as only one is 5 yrs old - the rest are between 9 & 12yrs. I am hoping they will be with me for a long time but realistically I know I will not have that many in a few years time I would not move anywhere without them & am not a risk taker either.

Hi all. Was needing some urgent info/advice from any dog owners in the Maitland council area please. We are a day away from signing contracts on a new property in the Morpeth Manor area & have only now been informed that this council has a 2 dog policy. I have 9 little pekingese here at the moment (most have been rescued & are over 9 years old) & am not sure what the situation is? I did ring the council & spoke to someone who said the guideline is 2 but I should be ok unless there is complaints. I have just logged on to council website & it distinctly says a maximum of two dogs. I am currently in Newcastle council area & have constantly checked on policy which is absolutely fine for my amount (once again pending no complaints). My dogs are mainly indoor dogs - just eat/sleep basically. I do take them for walks (usually 2-3 dogs at a time over 4 walks a day) & am now concerned that I would be worried about the neighbours noticing if we were to take a risk & try moving with the dogs if the 2dog policy was true. We have enough stress already having to sign before selling our current home so want to stop process straight away before it is too late if there are forseeable problems. Does anyone know anymore on this situation?

Hi all, Not sure if ok to post here (not sure on rules posting from other sites) but let me know if not. Thought I would share as I know there are many of you from Sydney & in particular this area & it is so sad Wasn't sure how to post a link so have just copied & pasted. Have also deleted the contact numbers in case not wanted public on here but you can PM me if needed or look up ad on Gumtree. Wanted: MISSING LOST PEKINGESE DOGS! HELP ! REWARD! FAIRFIELD Share | Print | Report Ad Date Listed 07/12/2010 Last Edited 08/12/2010 Price Please contact Address Fairfield New South Wales, Australia Hi, I am missing two of my beloved dogs. One is a female Pekingese puppy that goes by the name SHIPPO. She is very friendly and licks alot. She is white/blonde/brown with a small patch of black on her back. Very fluffy. She has a terrible ear infection that requires her to have ear drops every night. It's a very bad ear mites infection and sometimes she scratches so hard and so constant at her old flea bites, she starts to bleed in her ears and on her body. She isn't toilet trained, she poops around the clock, usually very very early in the morning. The other one is a male Pekingese adult dog about 6 and a half years old. He goes by the name Baby. He is a golden blonde colour He often rolls onto his back and puts his hands together as if he's praying in order for you to scratch his belly. He used to be fluffy but now he's shaved due to the Summer. You will notice him with his left eye, by now it should have alot of pus in it as he needs his two types of eye drops. His left eye does not produce tears and without his daily drops he will go blind. He has scars on his legs and his cheeks from surgery. A face lift to helped his eye condition and his knees keep popping out, he has terrible arthritis. The operation cost 1500$ and he may have to get it again in the future. We need to find him, and place him in the right home and hands, which is with me. He's hardly got any teeth left, so it is very hard for him to eat alone. He has weight issues, so I feed him with his very own doggy spoon. If you have him. please have it in your heart to return him home or contact me. A reward will be given. Please contact me ASAP if you have any idea where they could be. Please help me. They ran away on the 7/12/2010 .. Around midday .. The gate flew down when I was away from home and they got out. They ran from Mitchell Street, Carramar NSW 2163 THE COUNCIL STATES IT IS AN OBLIGATION TO RETURN STRAY OR NO STRAY DOGS. THE PENALTY IS $2200. PLEASE CALL ON : PLEASE DONT CALL WITH A PRIVATE NUMBER. WE ALL MISS THEM VERY MUCH, AND PLEASE HELP BECAUSE THEY NEED THEIR MEDICINE. THANK YOU.

Hi, Was just wanting to see if there are any DOLers who live near Frankston (North?)? Not sure yet, but there is a little dog who may need some help & as I live in NSW, I was just wanting to see if there was anyone close by who could possibly help if needed. It may just simply involve checking the dog for me &/or possibly holding it for a short time till I can get down there or organise transport. Thanks & much appreciated if you may be able to offer any help.

My thoughts are with you Dogmad Thank dog Herbie had you in his life as also I'm sure you were blessed to know him :D

Thanks again for your thoughts..............I will definitely bring these points up with the vet I had never thought about tuna - I will definitely give it a try. Are chicken necks ok for the other dogs? They never had muh raw till I tried those & their motions have certainly improved used to be very runny but are quite solid now. Is there anything better for them that I could use? Even after all these years of owning dogs I am still learning so any help is appreciated - just want what's best for them
