I LOVE my Paco collars :p the only other custom leather I have had is Ella's lead and while the collar looked stunning at first, it didn't hold up at all, after a year it looked awful and the colour started bleeding out and discolouring my dogs fur etc.. my Paco's vary in age from a few years old to a few months old and they all look new, and my dogs are VERY hard on their stuff.

most of my dogs-whatever smells good and is detergent free Baby dog- whatever I can find that is hypo-allergenic and does NOT contain oatmeal(I curse Hypo shampoo's that contain oatmeal lol)
-
lol anyone who finds "heeler" offensive..don't come to Canada :p you say ACD to 97% of the population and you will get a blank look..or you will get a knowing look but the person thinks your talking about an Aussie  clarify with "Heeler" and 100% of the population will know exactly what breed your talking about lol the Pyro Knees made me laugh, that pronunciation would never have crossed my mind, nor have I ever heard anyone pronounce it like that

lol Baby used to run around screaming her head off every time I tried to play with my dogs, it was awful for everyone..I cant imagine my neighbours enjoyed it, I hated it and my other dogs would get mad and attack her, so obviously THEY didn't like it and I don't imagine Baby enjoyed being attacked all the time! she stopped when I got Gem and Gyp..Gem and Gyp are not as obsessed with fetch as my other dogs, so rather then play with me, and get mad and attack Baby mid game, they would stop playing entirely and chase her around barking in her ears non stop.... Baby has not run around screaming since..taste of her own medicine and ya the reason I have a BC, a Toller, an Aussie, ACD's mixes and a JRT mix is precisely because I hate the golden/lab personality lol
-
what is it exactly that your friend loves about Labs and Goldens? if its the happy go lucky "I love the world and everyone in it" personality she will NOT be happy with a Toller  Tollers are fun and goofy but that are 1 person dogs and reserved with strangers.

I have a lot of dogs lol Gypsy- people: has bitten several people, but never broken skin, just hard enough to bruise(and will never have the chance to do more damage) dogs: again yes, but never broken skin(again, I just keep her the heck away from strange larger dogs) other animals: no, she is EXTREMELY gentle and loving with other animals Gem- people-she bit through my finger by accident a few months ago. she has given a lot of people split lips, black eyes and bloody noses however lol not from her teeth though, she has a tendency to skull crack people in the face when she gets excited... dogs-no other animals: no Happy- people-no, but she used to be fear aggressive, ad would lunge snarl and snap at people(she's fine now) dogs-she had broken skin, again used to be fear aggressive, and she has gotten dogs that came to close. other animals: no Paisley- people-no dogs-no other animals-no Baby- people-yes, she has broken skin, and she has badly bruised. she bites when over excited and bites if someone reaches to grab her from over top. I keep her out if such situations obviously. dogs-yes, she was spayed before attaining her Ch. title because she got really hormonal and started badly attacking my other dogs, no a problem now that she is spayed. other animals- yes, she caught an ate a wild bird in my yard, and she bite my rabbit..but too be fair my rabbit jumped on her head while she was sleeping...(my rabbit is fine, she was just injured) Rusty- people-no dogs-yes, he ripped my mom's dogs cheek open a few years ago, but for the most part, when he starts a fight HE is the one who needs vet care... my moms dog is the only dog has has ever done ANY damage too. other animals-no

How Often Do You Run Your Dogs Off Leash?
cali replied to silentchild's topic in General Dog Discussion
Baby and Rusty-never, they cannot ever be trusted off leash everybody else- every day -
I would shave the belly and cut all the feathers and extra length off, this is what I do with my BC's, its makes them easier to clean, less likely for stuff to get caught up and the shaved belly cools them off, and it doesn't look dumb lol
-
I didn't say it was a theory lol just something I have seen happen more then once, the dogs reactions were along the lines of "OMG!! I got free, I'm so awesome, look at me, look at me!!" if the dog is trained and just happens to be restrained or the dog is the placid sort the point is really moot lol my not restraining my own dogs has nothing whatsoever to do with this, I just have no desire whatsoever to tie and untie 6 dogs from my vehicle every single day 2 or more times a day and I can't fit that many big crates in it.
-
I know a few people who have always secured their dogs via either crate or harness and the dog has escaped the restraint while the person was driving...but because the dog has ALWAYS been restrained it has no clue how to behave when unrestrained and starts bouncing all over, jumping in the drivers lap, and jumping in the drivers face. that sounds a whole heck of a lot more dangerous then just training your dog to sit in the back lol even Gem and Gyp who I crate are actually great travelers, they just get crazy when you first get in the vehicle, the crate is an "annoying prevention" more then a safety thing lol
-
Gem and Gyp ride in a crate in the van(only because they are hyper when excited), everyone else is just loose.

i have 3 kuranda's next to my bed and 6 dogs.. they choose my bed or kuranda, I don't care which they choose and it usually varies nightly

I'm 50 years old, loved dogs all my life and often go to doggy events (although not dog shows as such) and have never seen one! I was cleaning up my photos on my pc yesterday and came across this pic. It was taken at Greenheart Fair - two pei puppies asleep in a baby's cot. We had people four deep to see those puppies! And people kept coming back to see if they were awake! So while we see loads of pei in rescue most people have never seen one either and can't understand why they need rescuing. lol that's so weird! Iv never met a "well bred" basset, only BYB ones, but they are still super common! on any given day at work we will have at least 3 (buttons, tacken and copper) in the small room but sometimes more (buddy, lily, riggs, daisy etc..) plus the bassets that play in the large like gordon, fred, winston, baxter, phoebe etc.. we have a basset "rescue"(read: hoarder) just outside the city and about a year ago more then 20 bassets were dumped at one of our local rescues by a "breeder".
-
ok now I am curious lol are Bassets not common in Aus? cuz they are a dime a dozen here, the whole concept of "different" and "basset" in the same sentence baffles me lol I see at LEAST 3 bassets every single day....

I get stopped and talked about because of the number, rather then my dogs thmselves. I have 6 dogs which I walk all together, people pull over in their cars, veer off coarse on walks to talk to me etc.. I get a few people that ask for pictures, but most people, just stop and take cell phone pics from a distance apparently hoping I don't notice that the car up ahead is stopped in the middle of the street with a person holding a call phone pointed at me... I get a lot of "dog walker" comments and I correct them and say no they are all mine which usually get an incredulous "why??" or "how do you take care of them all???" questions I really have no idea how to answer, its usually "uhh...I like them" and "uuumm..I feed them, I exercise them, I train them?". its at the point that I actually have to plan out my walk routes to avoid certain area's because I will get stopped for a good 30 minutes at a time by people in that area. I actually like that Gypsy is not friendly on walks and I am not sure I WANT to fix the issue completely, because it gives me an excuse...the rest of my dogs are very obviously friendly and want to say hi and play with strangers, having Gypsy allows me to bypass people quicker, especially kids, because I can say "sorry, this one is not friendly and I don't want you to come too close and get hurt" instead of sounding like a complete jerk lol apparently I am well known though....my friend who is a private dog trainer texted me last week that one of her clients who is also a red head and about my size when walking in my area and she was stopped a few times by people asking her "why don't you have 6 or 7 dogs with you this time?" luckily she had seen me before so she knew the mistake that was being made, otherwise that would be REALLY confusing comment

positive methodes and front attach harness' s are far and away the most prevalent methods in my area, and a few years ago when I almost never saw such problems, the tv trainer corrections were far more prevalent. these are all young dogs I am seeing this in, not dogs from those days. I have been seeing it more in Labs and Huskies then any other breeds so it could have some sorta genetic component but it could also just be that those breeds are likely to pull hard lol. its obviously something I am not the only one to notice because an increasing number of my clients have been switching to harnesses under reccomendations of the small private pet stores, training clubs and vetrinarians.
-
honestly in the last year or so I have seen dog after dog after dog coming into my work with collapsed trachea's do to pulling on collars, been there for 5 years and I have only seen this in the last year. I don't know what changed, but it freaked me out enough that I switched all my dogs to harness for walks. though I still use collars for quick outings and ID.
-
the safest thing is to never assume any dog is friendly. I have a pretty and cute dog that is on no planet friendly to strangers or strange dogs, drives me nuts that people just assume she's friendly because shes not a "aggressive type". she lunges at people "oh look, she must be the friendliest, she wants to say hi!!" umm no, she wants to remove your limbs.... I put her on a tight leash behind me every time I see people or people with dogs because people are dumb and judge by breed type.

oh I have another one! I will never understand the conviction people have that Gem is an Aussie or Aussie mix..I HAVE an Aussie, the only way that Gem resembles her is that they both have black, white and tan in a patchwork pattern..the difference is that my Aussie is Merle...Gem is white with sable freckles. like, no part of her shape resembles an Aussie. and yet.... I seriously had someone at Gems Rally trial last weekend come to be and ask what she was, I told her and she said "really? I would have thought she was mostly Aussie!!...well except for her head..that looks looks nothing like one..and her body..." soooo...she looks just like an Aussie...except nothing like one?? (Gem is an Australian Cattle dog X German Shepherd Dog) that said I have never had a single person who OWNS an Aussie think she was one lol

frustrating statement? that we abuse dogs at the kennel I work at. the accuser? a former employee, who was FIRED after she DRAGGED A DOG UP FRONT AND KICKED HIM IN THE FACE. that lovely gal has opened her own kennel and goes around the city telling everyone that we abuse the dogs, and she comes across as such a nice sweet sincere girl that people believe her and start taking their dogs to this kennel instead. when she was fired she tried to sue for wrongful termination and her caseworker fully believed her story, after all she is such a nice, sweet girl, how could anyone not trust her? except that my employer had proof of what this girl had done(we have cameras everywhere for gods sake) showed him the evidence along with all the notes this girl had written about the dogs in our communication book "such and such dog is an ******* ****, and should not be allowed anywhere ever" etc.. her case worker was shocked, dropped the charges and ordered her to cease and desist. so of coarse now this nut bar is getting involved in the "dog" community, joining the dog clubs, competing, and whispering to all the canine powers that be, that we abuse dogs this nut was fired 2 YEARS ago now, like get over it already! its soooo frustrating! its like "note to self..just because an ex employee says something about a business, does not make it true"

this lady must be very confused lol, a puggle is a well established mix.....between a pug and a BEAGLE . and they do tend to end up having a pug personality without being messed up and are unusually homogenous for a mix. OTH I have a friend with a pug x JRT... that dog is just as screwy as a pug lol

I am just not into buying things for myself TBH and because I am high up at the boarding kennel I work at, I get free boarding and daycare, and food for cost, and the last large vet bill I had(around $2000) my boss paid for me(I didn't ask, he called me aside and said he would pay for it, I was blown away!) my regular vet bills are high, but I try to split it 2 dogs at a time and save, its a blow to the pocket with 2 dogs at once, but I can do several months to save,2 dogs, several months to save, 2 more dogs etc.. I also keep a saving account in which I transfer a set amount of each paycheck automatically, that's for emergencies and if I need something desperately before payday, I can draw from that account and pay it back at payday.

What Is Your Favourite Animal To Own
cali replied to Rascalmyshadow's topic in General Dog Discussion
rabbits!! there is only 2 animals I couldn't live without. .dogs and Rabbits -
I do think its rude to just launch into a lecture, I mean I had a client do that to another client and it was very rude, the owners knew the dog was fat, she had just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was on a treatment plan, but the lady did not let them get a word in edgewise, it was just instant ripping them apart. that said I truely don't understand how a general comment(oh look who's a chunky monkey!) is offensive. offence is not an emotion its a choice, you can chose to believe the person is being malicious or you can choose to believe the person is just concerned. I just fail to see the point in choosing to believe the person has malicious intent.
