  1. Thank you for your replies once again. Mom comes out of hospital tomorrow so I might try to broach the subject with her.
  2. Thank you for all the replies. I think I will try my best to have both dogs rehomed. I doubt mom could have the older one PTS. Apart from luxating patella on both knees, I think she is quite healthy. Mom has never mentioned her having any heath problems, only that she is getting old. But then again, I could be wrong. I will have photos taken in the next few days and ask mom more about their personalities. I only know they are both quite shy, especially with other dogs. They do love people though. The younger one is the cheekier one and tend to lead the older one into mischief. Anyway, more in a few days. Thanks again.
  3. Sorry I am popping in and out of the forums. I also have a 6 month old and 4yo to care for.
  4. Sorry forgot to mention mom lives in Melbourne. And I do not know how to quote to reply as I am using a tablet so no idea how to navigate the site properly so please don't think I am ignoring any of your advice. I really appreciate it. Thanks.
  5. They are both Tibetan Spaniels. I did not see a breed rescue for TS. I will lay all the options on the table for mom. Just need to wait a few days as she has been admitted to the hospital today due to some complications. I don't want to stress her anymore then necessary at the moment. But I guess what happened today just highlights how hard the road is going to be in the coming months.
  6. I am back in Australia for a few weeks. I told mom I would help find the best possible solution for the dogs while I am here.
  7. Even though I know it is best to PTS the older dog I am not sure if I could get mom to do it. It is just too sad to comprehend on so many levels. I cannot remmember the name of the breeder the younger one came from so perhaps the breed rescue is the way to go. I will need to speak to mom and lay out the options for her. Thanks you all for your input.
  8. Please no flaming. We are under enough stress. 7 years ago, my mom rescued a dog from the pound. The vet put her age to be around 7-8yo, so she would now be 14-15yo. A few months later, mom adopted another dog from a breeder. If my memory serves me correctly, she was 2yo then so would be 9yo now. Mom was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer last year. She had surgery and chemo was was in remission for 8 months. Her cancer has returned and is more aggressive than before. She is now unable to care for the dogs. Her partner is not able to do so either as he has to care for her as well as work. I am not able to take the dogs in as I live overseas. Mom is unsure what to do about them. She does not want to hand them over to the pound because she knows they will be PTS. She is worried about giving them away just to anybody in case they are abused. I am after thoughts on what best to do for the dogs. Help?
  9. OH rather empty the glands than change nappies
  10. I use the furminator on Cleo everyday and OH vacuums everyday or every alternate days, but we are still drowing in cavvy fur!!! I would have thought my poor girl be bald by now being furminated everyday. Will professional groomers be able to remove the undercoat more efficiently than what I am currently doing with the furminator? Thanks!!
  11. I thought the pads absorbed urine quicker/better than newspapers. Maybe I am anal, but I don't think I could live with the smell of dried urine, hence I change the pads once they have been soiled
  12. I used pads when I had to leave my pup in the house or at night when I couldn't be bothered to go outside to toilet her I changed them as soon as they are soiled.
  13. BellaBaby, your pup will probably have the cardboard box for dinner :p I got Cleo a cane bed when she first came home. After a month, she only had half a bed left So, I got her one of those nice soft donut shaped ones which she loves to death Infact, she loved it so much the first few weeks, she didn't even ask to sleep in bed with me
  14. Glad things are improving and hope they will continue to do so!!! Good luck!
  15. Speculation ~ Maybe the breeder's dogs are on a limited register rather than main hence they can't register the pups because they are not registered breeders????

    Toilet Problems

BellaBaby, I would love a house full of Cavs so I understand your dilemma!!! Cavvies are lovely. My landlady cared for mine (and my BCx) whilst I was in Fiji. A close friend of hers met her and fell in love with the breed. She adopted one from rescue a few weeks later and keeps telling my landlady what a wonderful dog Cavs are My landlady would love to adopt one but she didn't think it's fair on her 11yo beagle. When I am out, people would stop and cuddle my Cav and she laps up all the attention.
  17. No smell at all I clean up religiously My little ones do not have any odours. They also did not have many accidents indoors. If they did, I clean it up immediately. You just have to make sure it is thorough.
  18. GC - If you do not get any suggestions, most vets would have puppy pre-schools held on the premises. If not, ask your vet to recommend one. All my pups went to puppy pre-school at my vet's.

    Cav Problem

How old is your cav? Does he purposely aim and wee on his front paws? Perhaps bring him to the tree area where you want him to wee and give him lots of praise when he does.
  20. I am sorry to hear about Ruby and the difficult time you, your family and esp Ruby are going through right now. I agree with catzatsea and PB that she should be crated and keep the walking to just toileting until the vet gives her the all clear to start rehab.

    Puppy Potty

Maybe crate her when she is in the lounge room with you. That way she can be with you guys and will let you know when she needs to toilet. Cleo was 6 months before she was fully toilet trained ie no slip ups indoors at all. Whilst she learned very quickly not to toilet in the bedrooms or any closed rooms, the rest of the house was fair go especially on any shaggy carpets. I would imagine that shaggy carpets would feel like grass to her. She only had free reign of the house for an hour or so after she has toileted. After that I would have to watch her like a hawk.
  22. Sorry about all the single pic posts.
  23. This is Cleo inbetween. My sooky-lala girl. That is not a face that spells mischief
