  1. I am in Morisset and would be interested in training with my Dobe.
  2. My guys love the juice on their kibble - Its a treat thing and they never have had a runny tum or any other bad effect - though wet liver kisses are a bit much....
  3. Gee I'm a dope - just found that Deer Bush is like right NEXT DOOR!! I'll just slink away now
  4. Hi all, I am looking for an obedience club in the Wentworthville area for some owners to get some assistance. Could anyone put me in touch with some clubs that may be available say of an evening or weekend with trainers that may be able to offer some guidance to a nice couple who need help! Hope to hear something Megs
  5. Cramet, My Dobermann will pull & I have not had any issues using a springer. It is designed to absorb any big lunges without pulling you or the bike over. I use a flat collar attached to the devise but will leave a check chain on him with the lead held in my hand, this way I can make sure I have his attention if there is anything making him distracted (aka off leash fluffy acting like an entree). He got used to it very quickly and LOVES going for an outing. I take the springer off for a while to get him used to just me holding him as we are doing the endurance title in August. The only thing I found worked better for me was putting the rear brake control on the right side so I can slow down or brake without having to move my left hand. Good luck
  6. Look no further than Woolies for Turkey necks! My guys love 'em
  7. Not having a go here but I thought in off leash parks it was still a requirement to have effective control of your dog? I still take my 18 month old on a long line to parks as then I know there can be no accidents. I will allow him free time but only when I am aware of who is around and have done some obedience work. It drives me nuts to take my dog anywhere and have unrestrained and untrained dogs rush in, harrass or be "impolite". I would follow the advise of the experienced people on DOL and get some obedience training going pronto! There is no magic switch or age at which they understand how to behave (trust me I've seached for the switch). If you have no control then keep him safe and on lead till he is trained.
  8. Hi Gordie, I know someone who's dog was suffering wobblers and the outlook was bleak, the dog was unable to move around much at all. Enquiries were made into the gold bead treatment and a vet was found in country NSW who did the surgery, no guarantee's were made but it was an option . This same dog is now walking I believe 2km every morning & complaining if he misses out!! I'd be happy to see if these people would speak to you or at least get the name of the vet if you want, just pm me. Sorry to hear of your boy's troubles & wishing him a pain free road to recovery.
  9. Hi Mon, So glad Rex is all good. After a similar thing happened to my boy the vet has given me Buscopan tablets to keep on hand in the first aid kit. They settle stomach spasm's and if he was to have bloat can assist in getting more time on your side to get them to the vet. If its not bloat it eases the pain & settles the tummy. Might be worth having on hand?! Give him a bug hug from us Megs
  10. Friends staffy had the same thing. Both Dectomex (sp) injections & ivomec oral were used but results were very slow. Saw VERY fast results (visual in 1 week) with Advocate. She also added the vitamin c to meals as a supplement for the immune system. The vet agreed advocate was very good in getting results but as you said talk it over with your vet & do what you think. Good luck :D
  11. Thanks, Have emailed top dog and will get myself a springer!
  12. Yeah I known what you mean about the jumping ... but whilst it may be fine for him to do that to you, he will then do it someone who will scream blue murder about the aggro Dobemann!! He is just one (today) so hopefully as he learns more and more he will understand that is ok to "play" but I figure he needs to know the rules first! Next time we are all showing together I'll pack his long lead, toys and some band aids & you guys can go for it!
  13. Hey, lead to the belt sounds like a good idea, will give that a go in the morning. Jbbb - What is a springer??? hehehe had a chuckle about the booties, he is a princess enough without slippers also! Thanks
  14. Well today we went for our first bike ride...... VERY FUNNY day out. Nitro healed along beautifully until we saw the ducks, then it was kind of a "Oh are we both going to chase the ducks, thanks mum, didn't think we did this anymore!!!" It would have been hillarious for a bystander. He settled quickly and worked things out very well we got along at a steady pace. It was just hard to hang on, use front brakes and keep him at my side rather than infront of me next to the front wheel...Oh well for a first effort he did very well. Was wondering if anyone could offer any advise as to the wear and tear of his pads. No there was no problem today, but should I be doing anything as a preventive measure. Also when I took him out I had his wide flat collar on but was thinking about a harness. Only concern is that I may encourage to him to surge forward and pull... Any thoughts? Thanks.
  15. Yes Yes Yes... Flames Daddy....She is worthy of a schnoogle!!! (We are talking about the puppy right ) Myszka, I thought I was doing the wrong thing by introducing any prey games to my little man when I bought him home.. No tug of war and so on..... Well he has certainly made up for it now, he will work for anything! Hmm think I'll make Flames Daddy work him in drive (I get dizzy - fall down - roll away). Please keep the posts/journal going from Divani, they are great.
  16. ;) Loved this post! Congratulations on your new baby, she really is devine! I so can't wait for my little girl.... Best of luck with her.
  17. :D Oh Chrissy, I hope you are doing ok... and I hope I meet the mongrels that have done this. They would never be the same again.
  18. I feed my boy cod liver oil capsules and he is doing great on them. He had dry flakey skin, but now is glossy and skin is great. He gets 2 capsules about 3 times a week and eats them like a treat. (hes about 35kg) His diet is based on Eukanuba but does get yoghurt, fresh vegies and lots of meaty bones (lamb). Hope it helps.
  19. We learnt about ice cream the hard way...... Our poodle ended up with diabeties. No it was not fed it regulary or in great quantites and the rest of the diet was top quality premium food or raw diet. Several months of insulin injections, bood sugar readings and trips to the vet ended with our little girl being put to sleep and the guilt of knowing "we did this" was not pleasant. I'm not saying don't do it - but be warned it had a terrible affect on our dog.
  20. It's awful this happened... our thoughts are with you. Saltwood, I was speaking to a breeder about this the other day who mentioned how important it was for owners to get back intouch with them and tell them this had happened. Other wise they are unaware they can even have wobblers in their lines. There is a website called Dobermann Pacifica (www.dobepac.com) where owners and breeders post information about their dogs, including genetics, perhaps you might like to have a peek at this. It could be beneficial to many if information such as yours is available...... Please feel free to pm me if you wish. Megs......
  21. Hi Winterpaws, I'd also be interested in attending if a spot opens up! I'm not far from you. Would love to bring my male Dobe (would be 8mths then) if it can be arranged.. he has no major problems (just a typical testosterone brain) and I'd love to learn more and not spoil him with poor training. Cheers Megs
