Is An American Staffordshire Terrier A Pitbull?
jackie_a1 replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ok so far 40% voted yes and 59% said no. I actually voted yes. I think they are the same breed however like stated earlier they have different capabilities and purpose. -
Stone I think I actually saw that advertised. Did you know them stone? How did they respond?

Stonebridge well said here here. That's pretty much what I gathered after reading the website he asks same breed? And I think? Ugh yes? -
I'm a pet owner and yes I would buy or look for puppies on the trading post. Well said Puggy and totally agree. I think because so many of us on here are dog fanciers and have this knowledge we forget that the general public do not. The general public I guarantee if they had a choice to go down to the pet shop and buy a pure bred pup (without papers or a cross breed) pay for it on the spot and have that puppy home the same day etc they would chose that over reading about breeders, deciding which breeder is the best, visiting that breeder, visiting the pups and viewing the parents etc which could be miles away from their home. It's the truth like it or not convenience over rides breeders. SBT your dogs may be excellent top quality but what does Joe Blow care about that? He already knows he wants a staffy. He hasn't done too much research into the dog knows the basics. He knows what he's willing to pay. He doesn't know the benefits of buying a purebred dog so why would he care breeder or pet shop? To him if the sign on the window says purebred it's purebred. It's highly unlikely (unfortunately) that Joe Blow is going to buy a pup from you.

And Bully the vote was to see people's opinions and what they thought. -

Tdier calling it a different line is much better than calling them completely separate breeds. A working german shepard of course is different to a show shep but are they not still GERMAN SHEPARDS? That's what I'm trying to say. Same breed different purpose. -

I still think they are the same breed because technically they are, however they are just bred for different uses. Regardless of what they are able to do they are technically the same breed. -
I don't own purebreds so I kinda figure if I go on a rant about pure breds I'll get the 'If they're so good why don't you own one?'
-
Rocco that's so cute!! I bet Red was loving it! I'm really passionate about bull breeds and mastiffs they're my two dirty little secrets . If the seller retaliates which I know they will I'll just ignore their nonsense. I'm just sick of all these BYBers taking over the world! I feel so powerless.

I like the references on the second page about other similar dog breeds really interesting! -
Aww Teebs is in lurrrve. A friend of mine had a tri colour am staff that's why I was laughing at what the ranger said because whilst on a walk we were actually asked if it was an am staff cross shepard because of the tan... AHAH Aww poor Bully if I lived near you and I knew his owners weren't giving him adequate care I may have been forced the steal him Some people should not be allowed to own dogs. You should adopt him stef

*melts* OH LAWD!!! DOBE CROSS SHEPARD *tears in eyes* How gorgeous! No wonder he tries to escape look at the company he has. Is he the only dog at home? Maybe that's why he keeps escaping to your yard! Have you spoken to his owners frequently and do they live near you? Is this the first time he's come over? Pictures are to die for!
-
Ranger sounds like a keeper (NOT!) Tell the power hungry ranger to relax. Charged with theft HA. I would prefer you keep my dog (had he escaped) at your place in a relaxed environment then he be waiting a week in a pound environment. Don't listen to the wench, I think you did a good job! Bully is a gorgeous boy though! How did your pups get along with him?! Tell the ranger to do some reading on dog breeds. Cross kelpie Still laughing about that one
-
Cross kelpie AHAHHAA Why cause he has a bit of tan on him? Looks like an am staff to me:) Did you take him in when he wandered onto your property? How lovely of you! Does he have marks on his nose from an attempted escape or...?

So how would I educate a buyer if I don't breed dogs? The only way I can help is by contacting these people directly. I'm just a pet owner I don't breed, show or do anything else in regards to dogs. So how could I educate a buyer? Edit: It sounded snarky I'm not. I'm actually asking how I can educate buyers?

Poodle do you mean on this website or in general? I have will and do post links everywhere. I see people on here posting links ALL the time. And I posted them a link to the bullmastiff website online. I don't think all links need permission. Breeders might want to be asked for permission for their sites but for websites in general I never ask permission to post the link up.
-
I don't really know the deal on links on this forum so I deleted the link I didn't know it wasn't allowed? I'd prefer to speak my mind then be silent. I think small acts do help it's better than ignoring it. If they change it great. If they don't at least they'll know the general public aren't aren't all easily led by cute puppies. Technically its fraud. I guarantee these people know their dogs aren't purebred but realise how much more money they will make advertising them as such.
-
Always with permission I'm actually going to email these people now and send them a link to the bullmastiff breed standard if you're going to charge an arm and a leg for a dog you should be guaranteed it is in fact what breed you claim. *Shakes fist* I emailed the people I will post a reply IF I get one. My email was short (due to character limit) but went something like this. I see you are advertising purebred bullmastiff puppies. The black dog in the picture looks nothing like a purebred bullmastiff. Bullmastiffonline.com have a breed standard which clearly states all bullmastiffs must have a black face and one of the puppies in your litter has a white face? You cannot advertise your dogs as purebred bullmastiffs and continue to misslead the public you need to change the add. Feel free to respond. Sorry it wasn't the exact words but the gist of it. Hope I get a response

What do you mean by that? -
That's true Rocco I'll remove the link Damn back yarders... might have to email them and send them links to some of your guyses sites and show them what purebreds are.

Golden Cocoa was female and entire but he wouldn't have thought I'd dob him in cause I told him Razor was a pitt cross bullmastiff and Boss is a lil am staff and I was blabbering how I love bull breeds . I think he was young and unknowledgeable about dogs in general cause his mate with the rottie was a wreck. His dog was 14 months old and Boss was the first dog he was ever allowed to play with other than Cocoa (the bullpit ) because he attacks other dogs. I said have you had him as a puppy he said yes. I said so why didn't he get to play with other dogs because apparently he attacked Cocoa then the owner had come to a conclusion that he was dog aggressive. Meanwhile Boss is 15 kilos and playing with the Rottie and the rottie was enjoying himself and looked actually a little bit scared of Boss. The minute the rott would give Boss a little growl (which was fine no aggression just letting Boss know go away) the owner reprimanded and the rott winced expecting a smack.

Lo Pan TWO WORDS. Well said -
Esky HAHAH you caught me out!!! I actually have rang up twice two different breeders and drilled them about their dogs and as to what pedigree papers they have and as to why if the parents are pedigree why don't the pups have papers? And I have emailed two teacup breeders too I know its pointless but
-
Hey Golden, I thought that too actually but he was adamant it was a bullmastiff. Like he honestly believed in his eyes he owned a purebred bullmastiff.
-
Esky I find myself addicted?! I always go on there and look at the knobs selling dogs and am like WTF?
