Hi guys, An update on my boys. I had Bossington desexed at six months and he is now a year old. He is the perfect dog. Literally absolutely perfect. Originally I was having some problems with Rajah (AKA Razor) and his dominance issues but since desexing and implementing training they are perfect. They have not had ONE fight. They never have any aggression issues with food, toys or possession. They are my perfect pet citizens. So I was just posting this to say POO ON YOU to everyone on this forum who said it was a bad idea to own two male bull breeds and that it couldn't be done. Well all I want to say is it is done and it has been done. I made it my mission that my boys are advocate for the breeds and they are soo much more! Razor is entire and Boss is desexed but they get along perfectly not one incident. I am click training with Boss also and have taught him to die on command. Shall post up a video if I can work out how. In the photos I saved some kittens from Renbury last year around this time. There was originally three, one I gave to my co- worker and the other two I hand raised we ended up keeping him Gizmo, who is a maine coon cross we found out so very lucky. He is Razor and Boss's best friend they love him. These were taken some time ago both Boss and Gizmo are huge now I'll try to update.

This is why I don't recommend certain breeds at dog parks recipe for disaster. But like Kiera had said don't let that you make a judgement of all 'fighting' breeds. By the sounds of it the dog that attacked you was already fearful or prone to fear aggression. If it was timid and a bit quiet. That and a mixture of the fact of what (we assume) is its breed was just asking for trouble. If you got bitten I would report it. Just for the fact that the owners did not apologies or acknowledge there dog was in the wrong. HAD they have rushed over and apologised profusely you could have then recommended to them that their dog was not suited to this environment and that they should look into training etc. But because the owners were so arrogant and ignorant I think it's in everyones best interest you report it. Next time that dog will pick a fight with a dog much stronger much bigger than itself and the solution will not be as simple as to pry them apart. I'm not one of those who advocates 'reporting' everything. But obviously the owners are a bigger danger than the dog itself so I would recommend you do. Hope Jake isn't too scarred I know it only takes a quick attack to leave some dogs permanently scarred (mentally more so than physically.)

Do those electrical rodent, cockroach plug in things work? I've seen them advertised and wondered? Has anyone used them and they have worked successfully?

The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?
jackie_a1 replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Iltby he has gorgeous blue eyes. I have to admit, anything crossed with a pug isn't too my liking. Pugaliers or whatever they're called. And I saw a dachshund cross stafford. It had a small body with short stumpy legs I couldn't see too much of the stafford except that it was really friendly. -
Hi all, Just a question more specifically for the already 'certified' dog trainers/handlers out there. What qualifications have you obtained and do you need for the industry. I know you don't NEED credentials essentially because everyone labels themselves as a trainer but I mean educationally what qualifications do you have and what do you recommend? What courses have you completed. I'm studying to become a dog trainer. I have done certificate two, three and now doing cert four companion animal services at tafe (which has a behaviour module etc) but then I'm looking to attend university next year and do animal science. But my friend who is doing that course now says it's a waste of time etc. So I'm wondering is it better I go to uni? Or do some training courses offered by DELTA or private colleges? What do you think and what have you done?

I'm going. First time I'm breaking my million paws virginity, very excited.

How Do I Get Rid Of A Mouse Outside
jackie_a1 replied to newfoundlandandus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Whoa .... Ok firstly I love mice and rats and all rodents part of a breeding module for tafe was to breed our laboratory mice. I think they're awesome little creatures IF they are domestic. As in if their pets etc. However as a VERMIN. As a wild or feral mouse and colony they need to be destroyed. As opposed to a pet in the wild their numbers do not get moderated or checked. They breed prolifically and efficiently and for that reason WILD or FERAL mice need to be disposed of HUMANELY. I never have acted cruelly towards any animal and never condone cruelty. But I am more than happy to justify the need to kill them. As an earlier poster posted they carry a numerous amount of diseases bacteria etc and it is not the same as every other animal in the wild. A wild diseased bat would not be likely to found in my kitchen or hiding in my house. Do not use animals as a general rule Gavin to justify your post because we are addressing mice and not every other animal found to carry diseases in the wild. Mice and rats are becoming a huge problem in certain areas and you want to re-release them and let them continue to exist thinking in some fantasy land they will co exist with our animals and us without causing any disturbances? E.g tape worm or fleas? Gavin your comments about the home schooling too are small minded and arrogant obviously a testament to your mentality. You should not make assumptions based on your (obviously limited) experience. Opening your mouth with such an inappropriate comment diminished your reputation already and you are a new member. In future you should exercise some tact and not jeopardize your status you are a new member and already you have no credibility with me. I highly doubt you will find a great support of legions for your theory. People have and will continue to destroy pest species for the benefit of hygiene. I advise you look back to when the plague ravaged the earth then tell me how practical your ideas are. Pest species spread disease etc. If you are talking about primary school education you should revisit yours. -
How Do I Get Rid Of A Mouse Outside
jackie_a1 replied to newfoundlandandus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Far too many bleeding hearts from what I've seen. Personally I have no intentions of catching a mouse to simply re-release it somewhere else so it can continue to breed, cause disease, spread bacteria etc. They are prolific breeders. They are vermin. If you own pets (and understand the basics of hygiene?) vermin species should be controlled an culled (if you're lucky) other wise you are risking your pets health. For example an infestation of rats and mice can cause tape worm in your dog, how you say? The rats and mice carry fleas, obviously fleas are the intermediate host for tape worm, your dogs catch fleas from rodents your dog therefore has a flea infestation and now tape worm. Not to mention they urinate, defecate and ruin your house. Why you would possibly want to release a mouse somewhere else has me dumbfounded? Does that count for cock roaches too? Personally good ol' run of the mil mouse traps work great use peanut butter they love it. Keep the traps up high (outside) away from your dogs reach and inside my advice to you is of a night set numerous traps around the house and contain your cats to one room so there is no possibility of them getting there noses caught in a trap. Do it over a few nights and always make sure your kitties are locked up if you're worried they will get into the traps. One mouse means there is usually more mice and if you, capture and re-release you risk a big breeding colony. I respect all animals but I also understand their roles. Feral mice = vermin. Vermin = spread of diseases etc Diseases = possibly sick pets. Edit to add: I agree that vermin don't deserve torture nothing does. But the old style mouse traps I've used have always killed the mice immediately have never found one still alive but not to say it doesn't happen. -

You know he is actually really cute. ^^ -
Huski don't try to demean my intelligence through your jaded interpretation. By too many dogs being out to sleep I was using the pound as an example of a subject that is always brought up, but no one says well stop whining it happens etc. I just used the pound example as an example to a dog subject that others also feel strongly about but don't get told to drop it or that they are sick of hearing about the subject. That is all I am going with that part. I could have used puppy mills as an example get what I mean? I am saying other subjects involving dogs are also brought also complained about also debated so why am I being told to drop it? Am I not entitled to also defend my breed? Huski, by exceptions I mean and if you took the time to actually read my posts I use examples such as a provoked attack, a dog being tormented that turns around and retaliates, a dog protecting it's property, a dog protecting it's owner why do I have to reiterate because you're too lazy to read. That are my definitions of exceptions and there are probably a million more but I also do think it depends on the damage done. Someone earlier made a good point that attack varies from bite and it generally does get misused [the term]. The dogs that should be put to sleep are dogs with outright human aggression, a dog attacking without provocation etc. They are unstable and unsuitable to be rehomed and should be put to sleep for both the dogs safety and of course humans. To the comment if it were my dog. FIRSTLY let me tell you. If my dog EVER EVER attacked any human UNPROVOKED (so without reason just attacked someone) I would take my dog to the vet and have him euthanised. Either or both of them without hesitation. No question. There is no excuse for trying to make excuses. I would have to admit that I failed in raising a stable friendly dog and the consequences to that are someone was attacked and it would be irresponsible of me to try and rehome rehabilitate or assess my dogs they attacked uprovoked and for no reason and hurt someone. But I have faith in my dogs that they would NEVER attack anyone unprovoked. Now I said faith not psychic ability so I cannot predict it will never happen but I can guarantee it won't. The fact that it never attacked before please. Tell me how many times you heard of another breed attacking and the owners say, 'He is always friendly! He's never attacked before!!!' What we define as aggression a person who is inexperienced may not and may have simply missed the warning signs.

Japoodle sounds like an asian noodle invented by an uneducated bogan. *says in bogan voce* It's a cross with asian heritage so it makes it exotic. -

How To Determine Which Dry Dog Food Is Best?
jackie_a1 replied to Isabel964's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sky pretty sure you can purchase it online. Just in case you get sick of funding the puppy mill funders I recommend buying food online if you can often much cheaper and at whole sale prices plus they deliver so it's much more better for convenience. -
Hard to convey your tone but what do you mean EVEN pound animals?
-
People are misinterpreting what I am saying. What I am saying is THIS particular dog the dog as an individual should be put down. I never said all dogs that attack people should be euthanised because there are obviously exceptions. What I did say was human aggression in dogs should never be acceptable and that this dog attacked and injured four people which for me regardless is already justification for euthanasia. Because think of it logically, and be realistic. DOGS should not be human aggressive. There is a HUGE difference between animal aggression and human aggression. I do not mean dogs that will snap at humans through fear, or anxiety because at the end of the day most dogs will. I am talking about out right human aggression. A dog that isn't snapping or reacting through action a dog that is human aggressive. A dog thats aggression is purely targeted at humans, a dog that you would not feel comfortable waling past, a dog that you would be terrified having a child near simply because a human aggressive dog will attack humans. Therefore NO DOG should be human aggressive. Obviously as the story unfolds it SEEMS the dog was reacting but it injured and bit FOUR people. So Steve or someone else assesses the dog and they say ok he snapped because he was fear aggressive. It was not an outright attack, the dog will need an experienced trainer and handler and someone who is able to safely contain this dog because regardless it has attacked before and ANYTHING can trigger it again. Who is gonna put there hand up for that one? And people on this forum please don't answer because you are dog people you have the experience to create confidence. Do you think the owners are experienced or have any idea on how to own and contain the dog safely? The owners probably headed towards a g.r because of its reputation as a family dog and because most people think they will own a lab or g.r stick it in the yard and he will train himself. He'll be just like the guide dogs we see calm and stable. The point I'm trying to get at is this dog will receive temperament assessment yes? Or at least has the option? Why not provide ALL dogs and dog attacks that same privilege? Why? So to all the DOL'ers claiming I am complaining answer this question and address it for me. Why did THIS dog in particular receive the option for temperament assessment and training and other dog attacks similar do not get the same treatment? If you want to go into specifics and say it is because the dog may not have attacked but 'reacted' then why not all the other cases of dogs that have attacked or behaved similarly? They would have obviously had to investigate to get the information that the dog attack may have been provoked. So why not investigate the bullies or mastiffs etc? Because if it was a bull breed there is always the ASSUMPTION that the dog attacked unprovoked because of it's reputation. A reputation that people like YOU adhere to merely because if I speak up for my breed I am complaining. How dare you dismiss me because people are sick of hearing it. I'm sick of all the numbers of dogs being euthanised at the pound but I better not say it because there has been a million posts on this board prior regarding it and we don't need to keep hearing it? That is the justification of your posts? Stop whining about BSL and breed prejudice cause there is nothing you can do about it and we're sick of hearing it. Like I say believe in nothing fall for anything.

Huski don't get me wrong I am very curious as to why the dog snapped. But I highly doubt that the reason the G.R snapped will be a highly valued revelation to the dog world that will explain dog attacks as a whole. Most of the time we learn from dog attacks but simple things that need reiterating that some people forget. For example don't make loud intimidating gestures (fighting) around a timid already frightened dog. Maybe that is what happened the g.r got spooked? Maybe Osama told him to do it? I don't know but what we do know is that dog has and is capable of doing serious harm to people. So by putting it down we may not learn the reason to the attack but we will ensure other's safety. You think every dog attack gets investigated? You think every dog is lucky to have a trainer assess them? And do you think most dog attack victims really want to know why the dog attacked them? Us as animal people do. But the general public do not give a rats anus. Not every dog attack is an insight into the realm of wonder. Sometimes it's as simple as socialisation or training etc. But because it's a GR they want a reason which just proves my point.
-
Thankyou half the words, you obviously have more than half a brain And also to Trisven thankyou. I'm assuming you own a g.r and you still made a very well spoken statement. Please don't misconstrue my words not all dogs that attack a human should be PTS effing durrrrr? Minus the situations where a dog is provoked (abusively and not just a child pulling a dog's tail) , where a human steps onto a dogs property, where a human threatens a dogs owner, when a dog is protecting a human OBVIOUSLY there is a million and one exceptions within reason. BUT this dog was NOT doing any of these things. I don't trust the news (or its facts) but from the story the family was fighting, the police were called for a domestic disturbance call then something happened to the dog and the dog snapped and attacked. By something I don't necessarily mean someone touched the dog but something happened and the dog turned on it's owner and THREE other people. The dog attacked four people. That is ground for euthanasia to me? Just because the owner does not want the dog put down it does not mean the dog should not be put down. I understand there MAY be extenuating circumstances but the fact of the matter is. Are these people equipped to now own a dog which if not put down should be declared dangerous? So what if it's not a medical problem? If Steve assess the dog then what? The dog gets rehabilitated or attempted to or given on to another family because the training is to much for the old owners? I am not going to pass judgement or assume to kow the family in anyway so I will not dismiss that they may do all this. But if they don't? Then what? The dog goes to another family to snap again? Or goes to the shelter to be PTS anyway?
-
Thankyou Jakemon for answering my question. If that's the reason then that's justified for an investigation but I don't believe much I see or read anymore.
-
What are we arguing about are you even reading my posts? Address my question.
-
Feather, did you read my post? It is not merely a complaint but a question. By admitting there is a problem breed bias I know you admitted to breed bias but what I'm trying to say is admitting there is a problem is the first step to fixing it. So if no politician is reading this better not voice my discontent cause unless I forward my argument directly to them it will not get heard. This forum is not just for dog fanciers or breeders. The general public use this forum people on the net who look up something random and get directed to this forum can read this. This entire forum is public. So even if one person reads this and becomes aware then isn't that something? I am not complaining oh woe is me poor targeted BSL. I was simply stating my opinion and facts and YOU interpret that as complaining.
-
Through action such as informing people that bias does exist and getting people like yourself to admit it. First step. To recognise there is a problem. There is no denying that most people on here know there is a bias. This is the point I am making. The dog should be put to sleep. Period. But there is talk of an investigation as to why it attacked which is fine and of course the family deserve that but shouldn't that be a WIDELY applied general rule to all dog attacks then? Why is it different for this dog? Because it is a gr? Or because of the circumstances? Quick edit to add: Because neither justify the dogs reaction. Just because the owners and neighbours don't want the dog put down doesn't mean it shouldn't. Judging by the video footage it was fearful, anxious and unsure and had just attacked not one but four people. Dangerous combination. Another edit to add: I'm not debating breeds I am debating why the dog isn't going to be put down? The news reporter said they are investigating to see if it should be put down. Why they would allow such a dog to not be pts immediately? Isn't that normal procedure for dog attacks especially that involve four people?
-
Whoa haven't met a Hovawart in real life. Don't think I have seen one in Australia. The dog looked bigger than a Hova and a bit more chunkier too
-
Hahah Diva living up to your name? Am I not allowed to state my protest just as you? Am I not allowed to point out the bias in the media as well as on this forum? Am I not entitled to post? Because it upsets you or (others) I should not post my detest? I was stating a factual point and you dismiss me because you're sick of hearing it? I did not just say pitbull, I mentioned them I also mentioned dobermans, rotties and said ETC. As in anything other than a 'family' known breed.
