When we got my rescue dog Jessie we were going to arrange to have her desexed, but she went into heat a very short time after we had adopted her. The vet advised us to wait until she wasn't on heat to have her desexed. Well an old dog who lived around the corner jumped our fence to get to her (before we knew his name he was nicknamed "Batman" because he flew over our fence with ease). They were stopped (must have been before anything happened) and Jessie was then booked in to be desexed and she recovered absolutely fine. For years afterwards her canine boyfriend continued to visit and they got along very well, Jessie would look out the front door if you asked her where he was. He would come over and hang out here, and at times he wouldn't want to leave. He was an older boy so unfortunately he isn't alive anymore, but he was a lovely dog! I just loved that he continued to visit here for so long afterwards .

That would have been very frustrating to deal with those dogs . When I walk my dog Tilly on the lead I find that there are loads of dogs charging at their front fences. Fortunately they have been in secure yards, but it is still pretty intimidating. Even if my own front yard was secure, I wouldn't let any of my dogs out there unsupervised if they were going to charge the fence aggressively anytime a dog walked past. It doesn't seem very responsible to me... Hope your cold goes away soon too!

If they don't get along then kennelling their dog will obviously be something they have to consider. Could you get them to meet while on leads on neutral ground to introduce them and take things from there? If they get along well and the difference in size isn't an issue, then take things slowly and see how they go.

50mm 1.4 Or 1.8 Post Your Pics Here!
fainty_girl replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Canon 550D with a 50mm 1.8 prime lens... Matilda Rusty I did have a bit of a chuckle after taking this one...they are like peas in a pod! -
You can zip the side down...there is only a thumbnail image on the site. The longest car trips would be 20 minutes max one way.

I have an inexpensive hammock style back car seat protector in my car, but it got ruined when my brother's large dog stepped on the hanging part and ripped the straps. The other week I saw this at Big W for about $50, and was wondering if anybody has used anything similar to this? I definitely would not install one in my front passenger seat as I know that it isn't safe to do that, so it would go on the back seat. I would buy one to begin with to see how it suits each of my 2 medium sized dogs, but if it is a good product then I would be buying two. What do you think of these? http://www.runningdog.net.au/Running_Dog_Accessory_store/Single_Seat_Protector.html

What Is Your Favourite Time Of Day With Your Dog/s?
fainty_girl replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
My favourite time of day is in the evening when they've had their walk and been fed their dinner, so they are totally content! I also love first thing in the morning...with the cooler weather, Tilly takes me to the gas heater and then when it is switched on she rolls onto her back for a pat on the belly. When it isn't cold she always comes up to me and wags her tail and sits down for a pat. -
No carpet Haven't used one before, but a ducted vacuum would be handy!

I use harnesses in the car. After i've unclipped their harnesses I always tell them to "stay" so they don't just rush out of the car, this is for safety too.

My dogs aren't keen on going out in the rain, but they will play in light rain at the park without worrying too much. The one and only time they have wanted to leave their favourite park was when it started pouring really heavily. After playing fetch in the pouring rain for a while they both took themselves back to wait near the car and looked at me like I was a mad .

Puppy Attacked On Holiday.. Any Advice?
fainty_girl replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I hope your pup is alright! A while ago another dog went for my dog Tilly at the park. We had just arrived there and kept Tilly on the lead to walk through to the next area of the park (not something I normally did, my dad just suggested it that time). This other dog that would easily have been twice the size of Tilly and a whole heap stronger and it went straight for Tilly while the owner of the dog just stood by and watched. My dad gave this dog a strong kick to its side and this was enough to get the dog away from Tilly. We kept on walking along after that and this dog came over towards us a few minutes later and my dad used a very gruff voice and basically told the dog where to go and it went away from us then and didn't come near us again. So a good kick to the side worked in that situation, but had I been by myself I wouldn't have been able to give this dog such a good kick like my dad had! -
Stumpy tail cattle dogs also have a natural bob tail. My girl is a stumpy tail cattle dog X and I've only ever had a couple of people ask what happened to her tail.

Jessie (stumpy tail cattle dog X) was playing mind games with my brother's kelpie Rusty this morning . My brother recently moved in with Rusty and for a long while Rusty has not liked Jessie although he's gotten a lot better since living with her. Jessie takes very little notice of him and she has kind of become the top dog. Rusty is obsessed with tennis balls, so Jessie took his tennis ball today and she layed down next to it in front of the heater and gave Rusty this smug look like "what are you going to do about it?" then she calmly ignored him when he layed down and started barking and crying at her for his ball.
-
My stumpy tail cattle dog X Jessie has pulled this trick too...she is not ball mad but my kelpie X Tilly is, so if she wants Tilly off the lounge she will go and get a ball and bring it over. Tilly then jumps off the lounge super excited and Jessie drops the ball and gets up on the lounge to snuggle with my folks! Tilly is pretty clever too...she takes me to the heater when she's cold first thing in the morning. She does this little 'dance' in front of the gas heater and when I switch it on she stares at the bottom with her tail wagging until the heat starts coming out, then she's happy as!

My dogs don't each much dry food, so I just use a Decor container, like the one on the left:

Beautiful looking dog and it sounds like she's lucky that you found her too! I hope she finds a new home soon .

People Who Just Don't Understand...
fainty_girl replied to Kelly_Louise's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds like you did the right thing, but this lady just didn't get what you were saying. If a child was upset by not being able to pet your dog and it is something that happens to you a lot, you could tell the child that Sasha loves to do tricks instead (assuming Sasha knows some kind of dog trick and is happy to do one). Just an idea ... -
The Strangest Cross Breed You Have Ever Seen?

A Pug X with a Jack Russell....it was a lovely dog, but pretty odd looking. My dog Tilly is pretty odd looking too, but in a cute way! -
If it's arthritis, could giving glucosamine help? One of my dogs has mild arthritis in one of her legs and it was suggested by a vet nurse friend we know to give her glucosamine. I buy glucosamine tablets from Aldi and she has one crushed up tablet added to her dinner each night (although sometimes I do forget!). We were told it would take about 6 weeks to work and that was true for my girl Jessie. Could you ask your vet about glucosamine to see if it could help your dog?

My dog Tilly feels the cold so I bought her a heated dog bed from Aldi a little while ago. I bought this bed in black for her when they were on sale for the week: http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_14419.htm Tilly loves sleeping on it! On the other dog beds in the house the dogs also have these soft coral fleece blankets.

I actually quite like it - its looks really quirky with its big head We call the toy "chicken" and this afternoon I asked Tilly if she wanted chicken and she started licking her lips and got all excited, so the toy is a winner with her.
-
I bought this squeaky rubber chicken dog toy from kmart and my Kelpie X really loves it. It obviously isn't realistic looking and is damn ugly but she really enjoys playing with it.
-
Personally two is enough for me at the moment! When my brother's dog visits it is too much with three dogs, but if we had a bigger place or if we lived on a property then I could happily have 3 or more dogs.
