  1. Mum gave her a bath again. We put a little bit of paw paw ointment and it's gone down which is good.
  2. I think it depends on the groomers. Some do it as part of the service but some charge for the service and normally don't let the clients know anyway. Mum is monitoring her tonight. I gave her some Lucas paw paw ointment and asked her to just dab on one small part and see if it helps or makes it worse.........Joey has been given a bath and the icky bits have been snipped off. She hasn't been doing anything out of the ordinary so yea.
  3. Joey doesn't appear worried at all which is the thing we're finding strange. I've told mum to trim the clumpy fur around so it would keep it clean. It's definitely red. It was warm to touch but it certainly didn't bother her. Mum was holding her and she didn't even wriggle at all. It's a bit dry. Mum's been taking her to the groomer's for quite a while now and it's never happened before. It might well be though. Not sure...... Cockerlover, I do have some paw paw ointment so I might lend it to mum.
  4. This is one of mum's little dogs Joey. She's 7 years old and always so happy and active. Mum had the girls washed early this week. When she went to feed them this morning, she noticed this. Mum took the girls to the vet last week for their shots and she can't remember seeing it then (it's not like we like looking at dog bums. I know I don't ). Joey and mum's other dogs are outside dogs by day (and sometimes night). It's dry and lumpy but there's no mucus, blood etc. I thought I would ask here since we're such a knowledgable group! Mum called up 5 vets once she noticed it but not one was open long enough for mum to get there and the earliest is tomorrow afternoon ;) Is there anything that someone can suggest to help?
  5. SB and Nidawi, I'm really sorry for your loss It's certainly hard when a loved one leaves us. ;) RIP Lucy. May you run free at the with lots of furry friends and you will watch everyone you love from above.
  6. I wash my dogs in warm water too. I don't see why my dogs have to have cold baths/showers when I don't. I don't have a set 'time' to wash them. I wash them when I reckon they're smelly or they're dirty. Generally it would be about once a month. I have't had any skin problems with Orson and Oi at all. The only problem I have is they like to 'dry' themselves by rubbing on my bedsheets and curtains
  7. OH knew I wanted a dog and offered to pay half for the dog of my choice. I chose Orson (my gold Cocker). I decided to get Orson a playmate so I got Oi. OH didn't pay for Oi at all. OH feeds them in the morning and he'll feed them treats and he'll play, cuddle, brush and sleep with them but he refuses to pick up poo/clean up the wee newspaper (Orson does his business on the newspaper inside the house). On the odd occasion he will pick up the poo but very rarely. OH and I put in $50 each for our food every week and we use that money to help buy the dog food and worming tablets. Normally I would buy it first with my money then slowly reimburse myself with the money. I have been paying majority of the vet bills and annual dog registration (there's an annual fee in the ACT though they recently introduced an one-off fee).
  8. I got my gorgeous blue roan cocker Oi from DOL. She was being shown but due to an aesthetic problem it was decided by her breeder that she would rehomed to a pet home. She was $800 with papers (limited) and that was in October 2005. You have lots of wonderful advice from breeders and experienced dog people. Good luck on your search for a family member who you will love and cherish for a very long time and who will in return give you the same! "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
  9. I sometimes talk to my dogs in Cantonese (not sure if they understand me though ) but never thought of training them in Cantonese........
  10. My puppies love vegemite. They are always eyeing off OH's toast in the morning.
  11. That sounds horrible. being sent for you and Boris!
  12. I got my clippers from Nicestman77 and they are still working great! I keep putting off buying some more blades which I really need to do *sigh* for reminding me!
  13. Orson chewed my wall before and he doesn't seem to have suffered any ill effect. That said though, he seems to have an iron stomach........ Colorbond fences can get quite warm during summer so I would assume the shelter have the same effect (gets warm). My mum has a steel kennel in the dog run at work and it gets quite hot in the summer (i've experimented ) Buy one extreme Kong and see how Jezy goes with it. If you put interesting stuff in it, you will find she will still be interested. If not, can you cut a plastic container in half (make sure it's a clean cut so no plastic bits hanging etc) and fill it with stock and some treats (ie. chicken necks, wings, biscuits) and freeze it? It will atleast keep them entertained for a while.......It should last longer than the summer as the weather is cooling down......
  14. Sorry to hear about your accident. One of my dogs chewed the wall too but he got over it. The two quotes above are from the same post (1st post) but it says 2 different things. Do they sleep INSIDE or OUTSIDE???? Also, you mention they are inside watching TV from 8-9pm? That's one hour. What is done in the second hour? They are teenagers and would be very active and curious at this age. You really need to make sure they are mentally and physically stimulated. Jezy, being a big dog, really needs a lot of exercise to tire herself out. Charlie would need reasonable exercise. What I don't understand is why they are by themselves for 22 hours a day. Surely you are not away from home for 14 hours a day? (assuming there's about 8 hours allocated to sleep in those 22 hours). How many hours are you home a day? How often do they get walks? 2 hours really isn't much interaction time!!!! I am pretty positive you do NOT devote the the 2 hours in those 24 hours entirely to the dogs. Can you let them inside for some interaction time? Unfortunately.....until you can make sure they are mentally and physically stimulated, your yard will remain full of dirt When they are bored, they will find themselves things to entertain themselves with...... Cockers love human companionship and interaction. Charlie would be wanting to come inside and spending time with you. I know it's not possible when you're at work but he would want to come in as soon as he knows you are home. I would think it would be the same for Jezy (wanting to spend time with you).
  15. I feed Eagle Pack. I used to feed Royal Canin but then a spoilt princess decided it didn't taste good
  16. Sorry to hear about this Jodie Hope Ollie pulls through and makes a speedy recovery. He is such a strong willed boy!!!!
  17. In terms of kibble, my Vet recommended Science Diet (what they sell). I eventually went to Royal Canin cos I read up on DOL and saw that it is good (I also read Eaglepack and Nutro is good but it was just a bit out of my price range and also the fact of not being able to get it in ACT on a regular basis ). Then Oi started not eating RC without atleast something in it so I decided that maybe I should try something else. I bought a bag of Eaglepack Holistic and she ate it no probs at all. She also seemed happier too so now we buy EP (different types of holistic to have variety.......). I also feed chicken wings (raw), chicken breast, fish oil tablets, eggs (raw and cooked), canned salmon/tuna etc. I used that dogs would be happy with canned dog food and kibble. DOL definitely opened my eyes to giving my 'kids' a 'good' diet. Sure they get fed 'junk food' but they should be allow to indulge every now and then like us  (they keep a good figure because we watch out for them....I wish someone could do the same for me.....without me complaining though ) The poo is definitely not as smelly since not feeding them canned food........
  18. I buy from Dog World in Hume and Maadii Pets in Fyshwick. Would be nice if there's one that stocks EP in Belco.......Everyone thinks I'm crazy

  23. Run free at the  You have plenty of friends to play with and lots of space to run around and be free while you watch down guarding your family and keeping them safe I know I will be very happy the day I join all my wonderful furbaby friends in doggy heaven
  24. Just when I thought things couldnt get any worse than sending Rex to the  ....... Last week my stepmum commented saying Juliet (our Rough Collie) hadnt been looking well and wasnt really eating or drinking. On Friday, my sister took her to the vet. The vet said she was dehydrated and had to put her on a drip overnight while test results came back. It turns out she started having liver failure The vet said they could operate but the chances were very very slim..... I found out today when I dropped off the pet clippers to my Dad's. I offered to clip Tissue but my stepmum didnt want me to go to the backyard. After lots of asking, I found out that Juliet was given her wings and sent to the No-one wanted to tell me because of how I reacted to Rex Goodbye Jules. You have been a wonderful friend. Always so loyal and full of life. You always knew when I needed a cuddle and a kiss when I was feeling sad. I'm sorry we didnt get to spend so much time together when I moved out of home. Im sorry I wasnt there to see you off but everyone thought it was for the best because they knew I wouldnt be able to control myself I hope you have seen your brother at the and he has shown you the way around. I hope 2008 will be a better year! *fingers crossed* Jules is on the right. We lost Romeo a few years ago from a car accident.
