What a fantastic day. Both on the learning and the social side of things! Thanks to Steve for clarifying a lot of stuff for us, and for the ball on a string door prize - Flame went mad this morning when it was brought out. Must be that tasty mintiness! It was great to meet a few new people and catch up with some others. Cant wait for the next workshop!! I also think it would be great to have a follow-up workshop to see how the dogs have progressed, but it would also be good to see the spectator's dogs too, and see how they've all gone with the instructions. But that's probably coz I dont want to leave Flame at home!

Oh yes, the girl who is planning on wearing a doona with arms tomorrow is oh so fashionable! Can you imagine the reaction of PETA if people started wearing blood splattered pants? Oh, hang on, it's probably okay if it's human blood! Ummm... probably, but I dont think we really need to go any more off-topic, do you?

Thanks Erny, that's a relief. I am definitely on the list!

But Erny, how can it be full when they havent finsalised any details yet? I've been on the waiting list for months to get info about the course and haven't heard a peep out of them. Do you mean that they've got more people on the list than places in the course? Or have they taken money from people and finalised their places before they've even got the details of the course finalised? Or didnt they send me the details when they became available, and I've missed out?

Here are a couple of our girl. She has been fed on BARF her entire life. Here is one where you can see the shine on her coat: And here is one where you can see her teeth.

Sounds like you all had a fantastic time! Did anyone take any video?

I found a flea on our girl and immediately washed her bedding in hot water and went to the local pet shop for supplies. They said the best one was 'Advantix' so I bought it. Turns out our girl is allergic and came up in big bumps all over her back (the day before a show ). She was very itchy due to the bumps. And a week later we saw another flea on her, so it didnt even work! Now (about 2 weeks later) her skin is very dry and it's like really bad dandruff. Yes, we've washed her in Aloveen since and will again tomorrow. Not happy! We went to the vets a few days later for something else and when I mentioned it, they said that 1% of dogs have this reaction to Advantix. So, if you're considering Advantix, just be aware that your dog may be itchier after the treatment than before it!

It seems that in many things, 18 months is probably considered no longer a puppy. eg The dog must be 18 months or over to have a registered litter, and also to compete in agility. I guess that means that generally, they're fully grown at 18 months. However, my girl is 18 months old, and at times she is still very much a puppy.... and then there are some breeds that have the reputation of never growing up (like boxers). I'd like to hear what other people think....

Thanks Steve. She only did it once, but we'll keep our eyes open for it again and keep in mind that she may be getting stressed. It seems like the training in drive workshop is never getting here!! Four weeks still seems such a long time to wait!
-
Thanks Steve! In that case, should we continue going as we are, or should we let her 'win' a bit more often so that she doesnt lose her motivation?
-
That's a lot of non-humans in the house! You must have fun at feeding time! Nah, we're not worried about it, we just thought it was strange. We are fairly certain it was training related, but I just hadnt heard of it before. Thanks! We think she's beautiful too! Lucky we dont live in the same city, or I'd have to padlock her up to stop you dog-napping her!! Hmm... thanks! I might PM Lablover and see what she says...

Well, this is the first time she's drooled for a toy, and she only did it once. Playing/training continued for another few minutes afterwards and she didnt drool again, so no, not Pavlov's dog syndrome. The squeaky toy is something that has been around for about 6 months, so it's nothing new. There was nothing about that particular circumstance that was any different (at least that I could see). If I have a video camera handy and she does it again, I'll take some footage. I just found it very weird! Hey Nekhbet. Here's a pic of her when she wants the ball. No signs of fear or agression here (unless of course you happen to be the ball, and then you should be worried!)

Flames_Daddy was just outside with Flame. He's been working on increasing her prey drive by teasing her with a ball and a squeaky toy for the last few weeks. She was totally hyped, leaping etc for the ball. He told her sit, she sat....... and drooled. She is not normally a drooly dog, but she had two rivers of drool that hit the ground in a very short space of time (ie running fast!). Sorry if that sounds gross, but it's the only way I can describe it! Now I can understand drooling for food items, but I dont think I've ever heard of a dog drooling for a squeaky toy before... so is this something that would normally happen with a dog when it is high in drive? And I can assure you this is definitely not fear or agression or anything like that.

How Long Does It Take To Groom Your Dogs?
jbbb replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Grooming? What's grooming? She gets a bath the day before (or of) the show. That takes about 10minutes, including drying time!! Plus about 2 mins to remove her whiskers. Oh, and she gets her nails trimmed once every couple of weeks, so that's another 10minutes. Hey, this is adding up! I dont know how you cope with the long coated breeds that take so long to prepare. You must have liked playing with hair as a child!! -
Hmmm.... you werent the one walking right past the camera at butt height! I am really not looking forward to seeing a close up of my butt!!

Yes indeed!!
